    it's on!

Carpenter's on a one man mission to do me in. I hope he takes the Cards with him.
  2. and had Jesse Crain waiting in the wings, would you trade Nathan to get a big bat?
  3. Alternating L/R can definitely be overdone, but I don't think it's a great idea to go LLLRRRRR, either.
  4. In my ideal world, I'd like Murton, Wilkerson, Giles across the OF with Ramirez, Nomar, Walker & Lee on the IF with Barrett behind the plate. Add one reliever to the mix, possibly one more starter if one can be had at a reasonable price and I'm good to go with that team. Wilkerson Murton Giles Lee Ramirez Nomar Walker Barrett That lineup will score one heck of a lot of runs. I think it would realistically put us in the top 3 of the NL. I've said it before. I'll go 4 years to get Giles with the intention of trading him after two. I'll overpay. I'll live with an albatross in year 4 if I have to. There is no player potentially available who could do as much for this offense as Giles in 2006/7. Wilkerson should be a no-brainer if he's available. Plays an adequate CF, but is very likely to produce a line similar to his 2003/2004 averages in Wrigley once he's over his injuries. About a .375 OBP, around a .480 slugging. Dusty would put him in the #7 spot because of his power, but I'd put him in the #1 spot where his strikeouts wouldn't matter as much but his typical 4.3 P/PA would be a big benefit. The team would be admittedly lousy on defense, but boy can they hit.
  5. Alright... I'm going to go with the $455/month managed hosting option. I might be crazy to do so, but I hope that gives the site plenty of cushion for the future and will avoid the connection and downtime issues of the past year. I will have to schedule some downtime between now and 10/12 to get everything transferred over. In the meantime, please support the site by subscribing or clicking! Thx :D
  6. I'm not sure about the # of HR, I'd guess upper teens. But it is hard to see a healthy Nomar hitting under .300. And I'd guess an OBP of around .350.
  7. Believe it or not, a 10-run swing in a team's differential translates into about one win. The exact formula for Runs Per Win (RPW) is as follows: RPW = 10 * SQRT[(RS+RA)/(G*9)] That method for getting a W-L record from a team's differential actually works out to be more accurate than James' Pythagorean method. (Mostly because it adjusts for run environment... the fewer runs a team scores/allows, the fewer it needs to win ballgames.) So how many games has Neifi cost us this year?? 1 or 2? It depends on what you're comparing him to. If you compare him to a typical big-league hitter, then yes, his poor offensive production has cost us about a game and a half. (That's in a career year, mind you.) If you compare him to other SS, however, he's probably only cost us 1.1 - 1.2 games in the standings. And compared to a full-strength Nomar?
  8. I like him better than Lofton, but that's not saying much for me. I remember him as a relatively patient hitter. But his numbers really aren't that impressive. I'd say my feeling is GMJ and Lofton are a wash, and that salary concerns in the only issue. Although GMJ might have the advantage in the field. As I remember, GMjr is a very good fielder, which is what swayed me in the comparison.
  9. I like him better than Lofton, but that's not saying much for me.
  10. I believe they also have Lowe, Weaver & Perez under contract.
  11. Kinda surprised he hasn't posted in here yet.
  12. Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!

    Jealous, are we?

    Bobby Cox

I agree Dusty has handled Corey very poorly. How do you think Cox would have done it? He would have let Corey be Corey instead of trying to turn him into Brett Butler.
  15. I'll just bash him when we play. :axe: Uh, Just kidding Raisin. Interested in a trade? ;)

    it's on!

Oh man. It just keeps getting better:
  17. They really should come up with more than one term for arbitration to denote the different meanings. For the Cubs to receive picks for Nomar, one of a few things would have to happen: 1) He could be signed by his new team before 12/7 2) If he's not signed by a new team by 12/7, the Cubs have to decide whether ot offer binding arbitration to Nomar by that date. He then has until late December to decide to take it or pass on it. 3) if he takes it, he is considered signed by the Cubs to a one year deal, though the two sides may have to go to the arbitrator to figure out the amount of the contract. 4) If another team signs him before he decides on the Cubs offer of arbitration, the Cubs get compensated. 5) If he rejects the Cubs offer and another team signs him, the Cubs get compensated.
  18. redrafts have to have the permission of the player.

    Bobby Cox

1B: Lee 2B: Walker SS: Cedeno 3B: Aram LF: Murton CF: Hairston/Pie/Patterson(batting 8th) RF: Burnitz/Greenberg C: Barrett I cant say for sure how he'd line them up. But he wouldnt be affraid to play the good players over the old ones Cox wouldn't have let Corey get so screwed up this year.

    it's on!

I tried a bunch of times today to get it working, but I got that stupid error every time.
  21. Fresh meat.
  22. To paraphrase the greatest GM in the history of the game (Branch Rickey): It's better to trade a player too soon than too late.
  23. Tim

    it's on!

I'll get it fixed. I will get to it in about 60-90 minutes.
  24. It's not the extra $1.25M that concerns me. It is the fact that if Lofton is signed, Baker will play him no matter what his performance looks like. And I think there's a really good chance it's going to look awful.
