  1. Random thought that I wouldn't do, but that sounded tempting for a second... If the team really is intent on sliding Cedeno over to play second base and signing Furcal for SS, they might receive a better payback if they decline Walker's option and offer him arbitration. If they tell him he'll be a backup if he accepts, he may sign with another team. It would really be screwing Walker over as it would really erode his value in the market and the Cubs could get stuck with an unhappy Walker on the bench. However, since the FA rankings don't take defense into account, he should be a type A and the Cubs would get a first rounder and a supplemental first. I'm not sure they'd really get more than that in a trade of Walker at this point if they picked up the option.
  2. Ha, thanks Tim! I like how Fox's power numbers improved as the year went on. I think Fox has a lot of potential. PLUS he's a Michigan guy, which is always a plus in my book (I used to go to all the UM games). Any reports on how Fox is progressing defensively? Any big changes you would make to the list Tim? Yes, but my top 30 list won't be coming out for a while! :D I'd move Aardsma down - but I always am tough on relief prospects. Marmol is too low. Pawelek is too low. There's more, but I don't want to ruin the surprise. ;)
  3. You mean the realistic odds of this Cubs regime signing him? Or the odds of doing it if I were in charge? Because I'd overpay enough to get him here. Heck I'd go 4/48 without even thinking hard. I'd go 3/45 and see if I could get a bite. I want Giles on this team enough that I'd think about 4/52 or even 4/56. That kind of cash is almost enough money to buy a house for himself in southern california during the offseason. That might make it worthwhile. But I don't think Hendry places as much emphasis on the things that I like as I do. So I'll be very, very suprised if we end up with Giles. You've been gone too long, Tim. That kind of money won't buy a house here anymore. Maybe 3 years ago, but not now. :D See, then he's better off in Chicago, anyway!
  4. Actually, Corey did have a great day getting on base the last day of the season... :P

  6. The Vet was a pitcher's stadium, though, and Abreu's numbers were just as good there. I'm a kid in a candy store with these two, though, as they're my favorite non-Cubs. Yeah, and Giles had a down season all around last year. I agree though that I would take either or both. Given the choice though, I'll take Giles because of the above, and the (lack of) player cost. But why settle for just one? ;)

  8. At least you have the #1 catcher correct. :D
  9. Now playing the part of Dan Haren -- Anthony Reyes.
  10. How about "Best numbers for a playoff team while considering positional scarcity and defensive value"?
  11. So, sub-.300 averages don't win pennants, yet you want Andruw to win the MVP? If a .300 average is important in winning pennants, shouldn't you, by definition, be voting for Pujols or Lee over Andruw? Or are you just saying whatever comes to mind to justify your choice without any real consistency of logic?
  12. Doesn't Baker realize he is part of the problem? Baker is the one letting fair players get a job and he is the one stifling competition. Doesn't that mean that someone else should manage the team after Baker does things like letting Maddux hit?
  13. Cool! I countered. ;)
  14. Their rotation held up unlike the Cubs. And whose fault is that? Hmm...in no particular order: - Hendry for extending an injury prone Kerry Wood - Wood for not doing more to smooth his mechanics - Baker for his usage of Wood in 2003 - The dude that hit Prior with the line drive - Prior for not getting his elbow out of the way of the line drive - Hendry for signing an over the hill Maddux (still love ya' though, Greg!) - Baker for being wishy-washy about the fifth starter - Hendry for rewarding Rusch for what he did in 2004 instead of signing someone else for what the could do in 2005 and beyond Oh yeah: - all the minor leaguers for nobody stepping up to claim the 5th spot - Stockstill for not picking a guy who could step up and instead picking guys who got injured or flamed out - The development staff for not keeping the high-end talent healthy and teaching them enough to break out
  15. I'm not quite so quick to blame Dusty for the entirety of the wildness. The irregular usage certainly didn't help. But it could also very well be nerves that were getting to the kid in his first major league action. Of course, it could be argued that the usage only compounds that because it creates extra pressure to be perfect.
  16. I believe the sentence you are looking for is, "Every one of you is wrong!" And I think you're making a mistake to assume that everyone on the forum has the same opinion of Dusty.
  17. My thinking it will be Jonny Gomes of the Devil Rays. .282, 21 hr, 54 rbi in 101 games. OBP of .375 as well. That's not bad playing for a crappy team. Crappy team, but pretty good offense. I'd kill for that offensive talent. Heck, I'd love to get my hands on Delmon, BJ and Jonny alone!
  18. Berkman is 1B eligible and has reduced points due to missing half a season. Let me know what you'd give me for him.

  20. MVP to Pujols Hank Aaron award to Lee
  21. So much for having a young bench behind Murton & Cedeno to force Dusty's hand. Oh well, didn't expect that anyway. I'm hoping Cedeno is on the bench in 2006 anyway, so I'm not really one to talk here.
  22. Thanks. I'll check it out.
  23. Thx for the feedback. My knoweledge of Javascript is, shall we say, limited? If I can find a better function call to pop up a window and then unpop it when the mouse moves again, I'll do so.
  24. Juan, When can we execute the trades that have already been agreed to and when does the trading function on RK open up again? Well, that's one question, I guess. :D
  25. Tim

    it's on!

Thanks for the kind words. After Adam made the trade for Teix, I thought he had the best team to finish the season. With my pitching collapse at the end, it sealed the deal. He definitely had the best team at the end of the year. But watch out next year. Team NSBB is going to be stronger than ever!
