  1. I'm not sure it would win us a lot more games. However - with Furcal, Castillo & Lee on the IF, I might go to Vegas and put money on Carlos winning the Cy Young, though.
  2. You sure? I think he's eligible. The rule is 10 games within the current season or 20 games in the previous. So right now he's eligible at 1B because he played more than 10 games there this year. But, he's not going to be eligible at 1B in 2006 until he plays 10 games there.
  3. That would be a very impressive offseason. And I'd be pleasantly suprised if it happened. As far as Milton Bradley being insane, the White Sox have dealt pretty well with Carl Everett, who's no model of mental health. I think Bradley just needs to be on a winning team in a supportive enviroment. My concern would be that Hendry wouldn't see the need for a big-time RF if he made the trade and landed Furcal. He might look at a lineup with: Furcal Castillo Lee Ramirez Bradley Murton Barrett Nameless RF as being good enough as is.
  4. If this trade went down, it would indicate to me that the Cubs are looking to improve the defense significantly. I'd guess that Furcal would still be the big FA target in that case, which would make the Cubs pretty spectacular up the middle. The pitching would be pretty well set in the rotation. All it would really take would be a strong RF and one more reliever to make it a great offseason.
  5. I'd be very impressed if Hendry pulled that off, Hoops. It would give the Cubs a major upgrade in CF, an innings eater in the rotation (which would be a good thing at this point) and the switch from Walker to Castillo is almost required if you're going to be pitching Lowe every five days.
  6. Not Morales?
  7. Kent only played 14 games at 1B this year, so he won't be 1B eligible next season until he plays 10 games there.
  8. Get it in tonight or early tomorrow and I'll let it slide in. Got it in! Please let me know if you recieved it. Thank you once again for creating my #1 timewaster and being so awesome! Sorry about the delay. Been a full day of cleaning, playing with the kids and so forth. You should be set.
  9. Get it in tonight or early tomorrow and I'll let it slide in.
  10. I believe the rule is that you would have to lose 4 type A's to sign 4 type A's.
  11. Blech. No Lofton for me. There's about 12 other ways I'd prefer to handle CF next season. Especially if we go out and sign Furcal. There's no need for a leadoff CF, then.
  12. Or you can pick up his option and trade him to a place where he wants to go. Or you can decline the option, tell him up front he's going to be a backup if he signs with the team (but would be welcome in that role), then offer arbitration and get draft picks. I'm pretty sure he'd be a type A compared to other second basemen.
  13. Thats a good point, I'd have to think Seanez would be a type A, making it 4. Does resigning your own players in the exclusive period count to that total...i.e. resigning nomar and not picking up furcal? Nope. I'm pretty sure re-signing your own players doesn't count against your total. But if Nomar were to re-sign before declaring, it definitely wouldn't count.
  14. As a businessman, I can assure you that the fans boycotting Wrigley would not have that effect. If the fans were to stop showing up, the Trib would simply reduce expenses to the point where the team still turns a profit. If the fans started boycotting Wrigley, instead of fielding a winner we'd turn the Cubs into Tampa Bay. There's nothing wrong with the Trib's dedication to winning at this point. They have given the team more than the required resources to field a winner. The problem isn't with ownership at this point. And I don't believe there's anything wrong with Hendry's desire to win, either. I think he's doing the best job he can. I don't think the Sox winning is going to have much of an impact on the team one way or another.
  15. A team can only sign three type A free agents unless they lose more than that to FA. I'm not sure how many of those guys are type A, but I think that may be an infeasible offseason.
  16. Oh, heck yes. I'm trying to arrange a sponsor for a prize, though. I'm looking to get an apparel company to give away a $100 gift certificate as a prize in return for the exposure they'll get for sponsoring the contest.
  17. I'm sorry, but if you think you're going to get the best offensive free agent on the market for 4 million dollars per year. You sir, are insane. I'm pretty sure he meant 3/36.
  18. I'd assume Len is considered visiting media. That would be correct. Though until I started this thread and saw Bruce online yesterday, somehow I had forgotten to set up Mr. Miles that way.
  19. I'm really, really hoping that Murton and Cedeno are in front of him in the line. I'm then hoping that the Cubs decide that three rookies would be more than Johnnie B. could handle at one time in the starting lineup.
  20. Thanks, but you were faster. ;)
  21. I think the durability concerns are a little overblown. It would take 1 offseason of a decent conditioning/stretching program to prevent these pulls. It's not like he's Griffey, with demolished legs. We'll see what the conditioning does for him. I hope it takes care of everything. But guys that have such problems in their mid-20's concern me. Obviously, I hope my concerns are overblown.
  22. I wouldn't even think about that trade. But Giles is better than Walker. He's faster. Better defensively. Walker has better power and patience. I'd say it's a push. Walker has better power and patience? IsoP: Walker: .169 (2005) .151 (career) Giles: .170 (2005) .173 (career) IsoD: Walker: 0.050 (2005) 0.058 (career) Giles: 0.074 (2005) 0.074 (career) I don't think so.
  23. Because of the health concerns, I'm willing to look at Aramis being used in a move. However, I'm not going to take back the bigger health concern of Chipper in return. Including ARam in a deal for ARod would be a different matter altogether. I'm sure Anaheim could put together a package that would interest me for ARam (though it would be based mostly on their prospects). There's a few others, but it would take a lot to get me to make a move.
  24. Plus the related concern of durability, as well.
  25. Yeah, TB finally leads the way in something in MLB Tampa has been talking about holding both Delmon Young and BJ Upton back in AAA again next year, which would be stunning.
