    tick, tick, tick...
  2. Some ugly K totals there. Save for Guzman and Coats. A strikeout rate under 20% isn't really bad. Patterson is just under that figure and Murton is well under. Sing's strikeout rate of close to 25% is why I don't think he's yet ready for the bigs, but the .711 slugging percentage shows why you might be able to live with that level.
  3. Correct. Though Vazquez was a pretty darned good pitcher before the work caught up to him.
  4. I personally have him down the list of priorities for the Cubs with Giles being at the top. But maybe someone out there can show me the light on why he should be higher. I know Tim had originally pushed for Burnett and B.J. Ryan, if I'm not mistaken. Do you still feel that way, Tim? Anyone? I'm still very high on Burnett if he comes at the right price, which he may or may not. I'm a little less high on him than I used to be, thanks to Goony pointing out his limited road success in recent history. But he has simply overwhelming stuff when he's on. I guess my feeling about it is that between he and Wood, one is likely to stay healthy and be the dominant start we want in addition to Z/Prior. I think my offseason priorities right now look like this: 1 - Giles -- big gap -- 2 - SS (I'm actually starting to lean towards Furcal over Nomar after looking more deeply into the defensive difference between the two) 3 - SP (I like Burnett best, but wouldn't overpay to get him at this point. So I probably wouldn't) 4 - RP -- one of the available setup men for the eighth. I think the rest of the pen is pretty well set.
  5. doesnt guzman throw harder than vasquez? last year i seem to remember him topping out at 90-91. i hope he has a better change up than vasquez too. When Vazquez was at his peak with the Expos, his stuff was significantly better.
  6. That's because I upped the max sessions variable. Suddenly, each IP is opening up a whole lot more sessions and the DB gets overloaded. Eight seems to work pretty well.
  7. Okay...that's why I had the max sessions set to eight.
  8. first: What Podsednik effect? Second: that's one run generated that way. I'd wager that they scored a whole lot more runs off extra base hits against us. They just weren't as flashy. If by "Podsednik Effect" you mean our enitre pitching staff having career years at once, then yeah, i'd love some of that on our side of town. :P Well, we can have some influence on that by putting out a team with Furcal & Castillo on the IF and improved OF defense.

  10. I've been through this so many times. Can you please show the Cubs were "owned" in that series by Pierre & Castillo?
  11. I still can't see Nomar making the pivot from the second base side with that arm angle.
  12. I changed it to allow 15 sessions per IP. Hopefully that helps with the error.
  13. As part of my efforts to cut down on sessions errors, I implemented a board mod that limits the number of open sessions per IP to eight. If you are getting that error, you are somehow creating that many sessions. I've heard that in some cases Firefox may implement a look ahead feature where it pre-caches the links available on a page. If that's the case, it may be opening that many sessions without you being aware. I'm not sure how this feature operates or gets turned on/off, though. Or if it even exists.
  14. And the Padres fans aren't happy with it.
  15. I still have no idea why people think talent is watered down these days other than it is a popular thing to say.
  16. Have been pathetic the last couple days. Zero clicks today in over 10,000 ad views. Gotta get clicks this month to pay for the hosting next month, everyone! Find an ad you are interested in and check it out, please! Thx.
  17. I think any deal for Zito would have to include Murton. Not only is he a perfect Oakland-type player, but he also plays their biggest positional need.
  18. Since the schedule went to 162 games -- 1961-present -- only 14 teams have walked less than 419 times and won 80 or more games. The best of these were the 1968 Cardinals, who took the NL Pennant with 97 wins despite only taking 378 free passes. Ah, but that was a much different run environment, too. Good point. The only teams to do it that didn't play in the mid/late 60s were the '84 Royals and the '03 Dodgers; neither team exactly lit up the scoreboards on a regular basis. And the '03 Dodgers had a favorable home park that depressed the run scoring enviornment relative to the rest of the league.

  20. I think he needs to be fully healthy, which I'm not sure he's been while he's been here. He's had a bum hand/wrist, bad back, etc.
  21. Making those statements lowers his leverage when negotiating with any player that fits that description. Making that statement would add $1M per year to the cost of Giles! I may be exaggerating a bit, but what agent wouldn't throw that back in Jim's face when doing negotiations?
  22. Astros in 6
  23. Considering the lack of a DH, does it surprise anyone else to see the top of the list flat out dominated by NL pitchers? I would think they'd be more subject to getting pulled early for pinch hitters. Odd. Oh yeah, this is where I have always had a real problem with Dusty. I think I may have mentioned it once or twice around here. ;)
  24. Everything 92+ is too fast for everyone except Edmonds (when healthy), Rolen, and Pujols. I'm not sure Jimmy can hit 92+ anymore. His shoulder, wrist, and ribs are hurt. That could slow down the whole swinging, turning, and striding thing. Someone may want to suggest running through the catch instead of all the useless dives for showboating then. Apparently, it's fun to watch but is hurting the team if it causes or contributes to those nagging injuries.
  25. At this time of the winter, it is mainly prospects and Dominican veterans who didn't pan out in pro ball here in the states. Later in the season, a lot of MLB regulars will head down there and play for the teams. Do the kids stay when the vets come in or do they filter out? Some of each. Many American prospects will only go to winter ball for half a season.
