  1. For several reasons, I'd really prefer that Reyes starts the year in AAA. For one, it gives the Cubs a better chance at the division. For another, I have him in the minors on my keeper league team and I'd prefer not to have to promote him any earlier than necessary!

    HUH?

This is not really that out of character for Pudge. One reason why many here weren't excited about pursuing him a few years ago was his lack of patience. He's had seasons with 16, 19, 23, 24 & 25 walks back when he was in his prime years and was a much bigger offensive threat than today. As far as a decline goes, I don't think it is necessary to point to steroids. He's a 34 year old catcher who has a LOT of innings behind the plate. It's actually amazing he's held up as well as he has. I think a dramatic decline shouldn't be surprising in the least. The fewer walks are probably due to pitchers being much more willing to be close to the plate than they were a couple years ago.
  3. Talking about players the Cubs couldn't sign....too bad they couldn't sign Matt LaPorta. Yep, back at the time of the draft, Callis said in a chat right here at NSBB that he was the one late round pick that the Cubs should make every effort to get signed.
  4. Jake Fox, baby! Catcher of the .... No, I don't want to tag him with that curse.
  5. I believe Hansen is scheduled for the setup role and possible closer if Foulke falters.
  6. Sometimes it is best to collect the IP's of these clowns so that you can ban the IP instead of letting them register with a harder-to-pick-up-on name.
  7. In retrospect, would you have taken Aubrey over Harvey? Looking back, Millege would have been the right pick at #6.
  8. You may want to review Oakland's 2005 draft if you actually believe this. You might just open your mind about how close-minded their approach is.
  9. Can you please show me any quote (and I mean any quote not from the highly entertaining, but not entirely factual Moneyball book) where Bean or Depodesta espouse pure stat scouting? If that is what you believe, can you please explain why Oakland still employs scouts, cross-checkers, etc? Can you explain why Depodesta retained Logan White when he took over in LA?
  10. Could you live with Pierre if Pie is traded for a good RF bat? How good? Let's say on the level of Abreu/Dunn Yes, though Pierre wouldn't be my first choice for CF in that case.
  11. Can it still be freely used, though?
  12. Could you live with Pierre if Pie is traded for a good RF bat? How good?
  13. I'm all for getting a good year out of Pierre, offering Arby and collecting a couple draft picks for him when he signs elsewhere. Hand Pie CF in 2007.
  14. If Williams comes into camp about 20 pounds lighter, I think he'll really have the Cubs attention as being serious about things. If he comes into camp out of shape, I think he'll be dealt before opening day.
  15. I have 4 of the Angels top infield prospects. Unless Wood is switched to third, Aybar and Callaspo will have to be traded to another team to realize their true potential. If anyone is interested, these two prospects may be available. I saw that you were cornering the market on Angels MIF prospects. Too bad Cabrera's in the way, huh? :D
  16. Hey, now... Bonds, Abreu, Dunn & Gomes isn't any slouch of an OF! And I still haven't ruled out Sheff with the 3rd pick if he's still available. ;) I also have a complete starting staff on hand with Oswalt, Bonderman, Cain, Liriano, Reyes + Verlander all expected to have starting roles for their teams in 2006. :!:
  17. Does anyone actually think it matters what Blaco does down there? :D
  18. Search has been reactivated for premium members. If it doesn't cause any issues, I will re-enable it for everyone next weekend. I'll also be working to put the archives back up in a searchable format in a way that it doesn't impact the normal functioning of the board.
  19. I'm killing the first six months of 2005. Then I'll be shutting down access for awhile while the search index is being rebuilt. When that is complete, the board will have search re-enabled for premium members.
  20. The 297,252 posts from 2004 are all gone now. Now...the question is how much of 2005 to archive off.
  21. Now to kill 2004...Is anyone going to really miss it?
