  1. Averaging ERA+ and then comparing them doesn't really make sense unless you weight it by IP, though.
  2. I'll ask again: what is it about Carlos Lee that makes people want him so bad? His line of .265/.324/.487 wasn't that great last year. It was downright Burnitz-like. He's also a butcher in the field. I certainly wouldn't bump ARam out of the cleanup spot for him.
  3. Why are people such big fans of Carlos Lee?
  4. If you're just going to name closers for the pen, I'll add Gonzalez. If it is just OF and you're allowing Berkman, I'll go Dunn, Berkman & Bay in the OF (Bay would be my CF). If you require people actually play the three OF positions in 2006 a majority of time, I'll go with Bay, Griffey with Lane edging out Kearns in the weakest position in the division. The SP looks about right, but I'm no more confident in Sheets staying healthy than I am in Wood. I'll be optimistic for the Cubs and say that Kerry stays healthy enough to edge him out for the 5th spot. Lopez is a creature of GAB (check his road HR last year), but SS is another really weak position so I'll go with him. I flat out think Weeks is the best 2B in the division with only an aging Biggio close. If they're both healthy, I think ARam has the offensive numbers and Rolen has the defense. I'm not sure either will be healthy. The class position in the division is 1B, without question. Pujols edges out very strong competition from Lee, Dunn & Berkman. Fielder is going to take a few years before he can approach that kind of level.
  5. So Washington would net Murton for Wilkerson & Sledge? Could we reverse time and get those two instead of Soriano?
  6. I'd be perfectly happy if Guzman ends up a better control but slightly less stuff version of a guy like Z or Webb. Especially since I think he has a better change as a third look than either one of those guys. BTW - Craig: My recollection is that the sinker sits a bit better than the 89-90 range. I recalled the sinker sitting in the 91-93 range with the 4 seamer in the mid-90's when he wanted to go up the ladder on a guy.
  7. If he convinced Jacque to use them, Juan could perform a great service to the team. ...by either: A) enhancing Jaque's performance or B) getting him baninated from the team My thinking exactly.
  8. If he convinced Jacque to use them, Juan could perform a great service to the team.
  9. I said that months ago. I probably hadn't found the site here yet. I'm pretty new. take me off ignore you bastard! (can I use that word? maybe the mods will miss it). The key is Grissom subbing for Jones and not for Murton. What? Did someone say something? I actually think it'll be okay.
  10. I said that months ago. I probably hadn't found the site here yet. I'm pretty new.
  11. I hate to say it, but Grissom really wouldn't be a horrible choice to platoon with Jones.
  12. How are Hidalgo's numbers the past two years when compared with Gonzalez'? Don't know. I don't advocate signing either one. Why do you want the Cubs to sign Hidalgo? Well, I'm not really amped up about it one way or another. But if I have to choose between them, I'd choose Hidalgo because he's closer to his previous levels of performance, he provides great defense and doesn't have the lousy rep in the clubhouse (as opposed to Juan "If I ain't startin', I ain't goin' Gonzalez).
  13. How are Hidalgo's numbers the past two years when compared with Gonzalez'?
  14. I, too, would prefer the Cubs to simply sign Hidalgo.
  15. It just struck me as funny for some reason to see you put Ervin Santana in with this group of pitchers...Santana is nowhere near the others in this group in my book. I'd drop Duke down a notch if we are talking about long-term expectations. I'd probably list the top pitching "prospects": Felix Hernandez Cain Billingsley Liriano Verlander Duke Zumaya etc.
  16. I don't like listening to Barry. But steroids or no, he's easily the best hitter I have ever seen.
  17. He's at 708 already. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I love watching Barry hit.
  18. The method BP uses for this prediction is going to have everyone regress to the mean. So there will be very few 90 game winners/losers in either league.
  19. I still have Angel as the #2 prospect in the system, so I'm still pretty high on him. I believe that if a pitcher's ceiling is going to be lowered by shoulder surgery, you'll see it by that guy not being able to reach the velocity he had pre-knife. Given the reports out of AZ, Angel should still have the same ceiling he had before. Until he puts in a couple seasons of 30+ starts, he's going to be questioned about his durability. But I'm still hopeful that he can make an impact for the Cubs in the second half of this year. I just hope they hold back on his innings and give him extra recovery days whenever possible in the first half so that he has something in the tank for that time.
  20. PNC is my favorite non-Wrigley stadium and I've been to a bunch. My favorite part was that kids get in for free, so my brother and law (who lives there) and I brought our sons in for free. We had fifth row seats in the OF right behind Giles in LF.
  21. Javier Vazquez will be the best pitcher on the Sox this year. I believe this is the year he gets fully past his dead arm issues and gets the life back. When he was with Montreal, he was one of the best pitchers in the game. He was just run into the ground. They timed that trade with the Yankees perfectly. If everyone is fully healthy for 2006, I'd go: 1) Prior 2) Z 3) Vazquez 4) Wood 5) Miller 6) Buehrle 7) Garcia 8) Maddux 9) Contreras 10) McCarthy 11) Guzman 12) Williams 13) Hill 14) Garland Okay, so Garland may be better than that. I just don't really think he's all that great. One way or another, though, both sides of town are going to see some good pitching in 2006.
  22. I believe it depends on whether the Cubs wish to make any mechanical changes coming out of ST. If they do, they will leave him in EST. If not, I expect him to start in Peoria with a strict pitch count.
  23. Search is enabled but it doesn't seem to be working properly. No matter what words you put in the search field it never finds a topic containing them. Yeah, when the site went down the other day, I truncated the search words table as it still seemed to be causing issues when I got the site back up. I'm planning on addressing it this weekend.
  24. Wow, that's embarassing. I knew that Valentine's day was the third anniversary of the founding of NSBB. But for some reason, I thought the domain expired in 2007, not 2006. Oh well, it's mine through 2011 now. :thumleft:
