  1. I'm really wishing I had verbalized that I was starting to worry about Eloy's lack of average. That hit tool was supposed to be the thing that made him more Miggy than Soler, but I promise this isn't hindsight. Also the repeated injuries on a big dude aren't great harbingers. Still pains me to lose him, but at least it's for a target I love. Exact boat I'm in. I think they may have traded him at peak value.
  2. I'm okay with trading away Eloy + Cease. But I more like Quintana than love him.
  3. I'll leave it to those more creative than me to write headlines for this article.
  4. I would be willing to trade in our large adult son for a reincarnation of the round mound http://www.nagelphotography.com/img/s/v-3/p710982571-4.jpg why on earth is Glenn Nagel Photography abbreviated as GPN?
  5. I remember sneaky trying to convince me that Travis Wood was really, really good at HR prevention. I'm still skeptical that it is a long-term skill instead of simple variance.
  6. Two of the five biggest comps through age 23 for Fulmer: Rick Reuschel Mike Harkey One of those would be an awesome outcome.
  7. Paying ace-level prices for guys with Fulmer's strikeout rates would concern the heck out of me. I've never watched him pitch, though. I see he's got good speed on his fastball and that his mix is 4-seam, 2-seam, slider, change. It looks like the fb is well above average, the change is pretty decent and that the slider is kind of meh. Would a young John Lackey be a decent comp? I know Schwarbs has struggled this year, but I still have confidence that he's the same guy we thought was going to be a top 20 hitter in MLB. And for whatever it is worth, this is a guy that has proven he can step up on the biggest stage and deliver. I'd rather trade Happ if we had to ship out one of the young OF's (and assuming that nobody has an irrational love of Almora).
  8. 1) We're not going to be 8-9 down at the end of the month 2) Think of the comparison this way: What Cubs players would you trade for a Brewer at the same position?
  9. Aw, heck. Altuve has two options that go on after his contract runs out. Damn.
  10. My *updated* master plan for total world domination: summer 2017: 1) trade Eloy, Cease, Zagunis for Stroman; 2) drop Lackey 3) Rotation is Lester/Stroman/Hendricks/Arrieta/Monty; Pen is fine as-is; offense is fine with a fixed schwarbs winter 2017/18: 1) Tender Arrieta a qualifying offer and thank him for his service when he signs elsewhere 2) somehow convince Otani to come here (rotation now set with Lester/Stroman/Hendricks/Otani/Monty) 3) Sign Altuve to a big contract 4) Break the news to Zobrist that he's going to be an actual supersub along with Javy 5) Add relief help to replace Davis/Uehara/Duensing 6) Find another Jay - every other spot is filled with players under control Winter 2018/19: 1) Convince Heyward to opt out or accept bench role. 2) Empty 1/2 bank for Harper 3) Trade Russell for a young, controllable SP 4) Empty other 1/2 bank for Machado, put him at SS. 5) Offense is Altuve/Harper/Bryant/Rizzo/Machado/Schwarbs/Happ/Contreras Most expensive team in history? Sure. Are we going to lose all our first round picks for years? Yep. Don't care.
  11. His wife is hot, so he's got that going for him. Which is nice.
  12. My master plan for continued world domination: summer 2017: 1) trade Eloy, Cease, Zagunis for Stroman; 2) drop Lackey 3) Rotation is Lester/Stroman/Hendricks/Arrieta/Monty; Pen is fine as-is; offense is fine with a fixed schwarbs winter 2017/18: 1) Tender Arrieta a qualifying offer and thank him for his service when he signs elsewhere 2) somehow convince Otani to come here (rotation now set with Lester/Stroman/Hendricks/Otani/Monty) 3) Add relief help to replace Davis/Uehara/Duensing 4) Find another Jay - every other spot is filled with players under control Winter 2018/19: 1) Convince Heyward to opt out or accept bench role. 2) Empty bank for Harper 3) Probably need to add a SP for someone and relievers, but who cares 4) Offense is Harper/Bryant/Rizzo/Schwarbs/Happ/Contreras/Russell/Zobrist-Baez!
  13. Fangraphs was the reason I finally broke down and installed an adblocker
  14. if you ever find yourself in glenview, adam's kabob on waukegan and lake https://www.yelp.com/biz/adams-kabob-glenview-2 :good:
  15. Cash? We paid them a bunch of cash. I don't think there's any coming back.
  16. This is awesome:
  17. Alzolay struggling so far today.
  18. Low 90's sitting 92-93, topping at 94.
  19. 1st: Javy, Soler, Alcantara 2nd: Bryant, Russell, Schwarbs 3rd: Contreras, Almora 4th: Happ, Caratini, Candy Definitely peaked with the second wave. So based on what year they debut in. Yeah peaked with the 2nd wave but crazy to keep churning out above average regulars in each of the past 4 seasons Changed a bit for me when I added in pitchers that were able to grab a sustained role. Definitely brought the first group close to the second one and adding Edwards to the third wave helps that one significantly.
  20. 1st: Javy, Soler, Alcantara, Hendricks, Grimm 2nd: Bryant, Russell, Schwarbs 3rd: Contreras, Almora, Edwards 4th: Happ, Caratini, Candy
