  2. nice job gang. david wells is such an arse. he dropped down that bunt and let Lilly know he didnt appreciate it. that was a great game in the game moment.
  3. Only on heavy narcotics and anti-psychotic medication.

ABs from all 4 sluggers from 23 onward (went with 24 on sammy cuz he only hit 8 when he was 23). I also did not count 2007, b/c i know some of you dont like split seasons. You may wonder about the adjusted under Sheff. That discounts the 93 season when he had a Shoulder injury and played through it (eventually leading to his move to the OF), 97 when he had hammy problems all year and played through it, and last season with the broken wrist. You can decide for yourself what you think. Both #s are there. The adjusted total under the MLB column is for 1993 to present. Again, do with it what you want.
  5. i hope Lou sends out Felix today. I think he can light Wells up. He is all kinds of exciting to watch. He reminds me of another Cub OF of the past (whose name we do not mention b/c of the pain involved) with the speed and the lefty swing. Cant wait to see how it all turns out with Felix. Been a long time (probably since BobbyD and Ryno) that its actually fun watching the first 2 guys bat in our lineup. Go Cubbies
  6. And dont forget about Cedeno, Pigs and Pagan. Cedeno is lighting up Iowa like a pinball machine at the moment. Pigs has a 2.31 ERA in 23 innings with 20ks. If Cherry and Cotts can get back to where they were and Guzman comes back healthy, our pitching staff will be just about cemented with the re-sign of Z, who isnt that old himself. Pagan may have come from the Mets organization and been hampered last season with injuries, but he is only 25 and looks like he can stick on the big club for a while. Good glove, 3 field OF, switch hitter with speed will always have a place on my bench. We could have a real exciting team for a long time if they keep up this production. Just need to fill in a few holes.

  8. I have no idea what you mean. I like Sheff, i always have. I especially liked it when he was a Yankee. And i get sick of everyone else ragging on him b/c they think he is an easy target. Its akin to people poking a large circus animal with a stick to provoke a response. Shef isnt smart enough to get away from it and it gives him a bad black eye in the media. Sorry if you think he is a bum, but i disagree.
  9. You must have missed C-Span the week of the Congressional Baseball Testimonies. And no, i havent read Shadows. I disagree with the premise. Breaking the law to expose someone else breaking the law is distasteful to me. Those guys should have any profits they made from that book taken away and donated to a charity.
  10. Cedeno 4-4 runs him to .347/446/983. Hitting .447 over his last 10 games with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs.
  11. ETA is also estimated time of arrival. Depends on usage in the speak. ETA is also a Basque Terrorist Organization, Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, which hardly comes up except in those pesky Homeland Security interviews....wait...forget i said that.
  12. Ha ha, thats a pretty good one. It did help his Batting Avg. though. He didnt make it with the Marlins this year out of ST, was hoping he would, but despite that fact, probably had just as a productive season as CP, who is now hitting a robust .208/.264 in 192 ABs. (And Peter Angelos deserves every one of those ABs). Depends on how you mean that. Was he involved with Balco? Yes, as a bystander. Was he an active participant in a steroid plot like Sosa, McGwire, or Bonds? No, he was a bystander. I really think if Mitchell went to Shef sensibly and asked him for clubhouse details, he would provide them minus the names. And irregardless is not a word. Its Boston-speak.
  13. Salty didnt get a sure out with the infield in tonight in the 9th while playing first, and it ended up costing his team the game. Homer OS called it an IF hit. More please.
  14. You make it sound positively Machiavellian. Here is the excerpt to which you are referring: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/magazine/10/04/sheffield_bonds1011/index.html Shef as i stated earlier is not a rocket scientist. He believed what he got to be something that would help his injury heal. He didnt ask the ? what it had in it which he probably should have. Accidents like this happen all the time for example look at what the Oklahoma football program admitted yesterday with amino acids. Its not like he went out and was actively looking for the stuff. He also quit using it after his tendon had fully healed and his numbers didnt take off for the season. In fact if you look it up, he had one of his worst career years with only 25 HRs and 84 RBIs. He has been a staunch advocate against Steroid use and one of the few guys that has testified in all the hearings, trials, and gone on the record for the public to see. Something that Sosa, McGwire, and certainly Bonds wont ever do. He made a mistake. He admitted it. MLB didnt punish him for it. And he volunteered to take more tests if they wanted him too. What can you ask from him? But whatever man.
  15. 7.5 games and closing.
  16. Shef is in easy, if he can get to 500 HRs. The RBI total he has is 39th All time and rapidly climbing. He also has an outside shot at 3k hits if he can stay healthy and play for 4 or 5 more years. He really isnt tied up in the Balco stuff. He has always relied on being a line drive hitter and his HR totals have never really jumped way up after he stabilized at around age 25. If anything, they are extremely consistent. He also has played in some of the worst pitching parks all time. The Fish Tank and Big Blue Heaven are murderous on hitters and he spent the better part of a decade in them. He is an MVP, 9 time AS, and won 5 Silver Sluggers. He might already have punched his ticket too but several injuries have slowed him down. And i dont think he is a jerk. He is really misunderstood. He is not as articulate as he thinks he is and doesnt get his point over in the right way which comes off as racist or arrogant. He just needs a translator like Hunter did for him last week so that we can relate to what the hell he is trying to say. He also is fairly tempermental and says some things he probably shouldnt at heated times, but he always has apologized for them the next day and accepted the responsibility for it, unlike some others who just let it slide. But he wouldnt be the first or the head jerk even to be in the HoF. Ty Cobb has both those distinctions all rolled up forever and ever.
  17. Ronny Cedeno is officially en fuego. Now hitting .333 with an OPS well over 900. Absolutely murdering the ball the last 10 games or so. Slugging % will be over 500 if he can keep it going tonight with the triple he already has. Only upsetting thing is 5 errors in 27 games. Dont need to start that nonsense again.
  18. Totally agree with that. It would have been unfair to the Rookie really. Of course if Leo Durocher was still alive and managing the Cubs, I could have seen it... something like- Welcome to Hell kid, strike this sum'@#!$ out. Best part is that Lou wasnt even considering Ohman with the situation rapidly deteriorating. Maybe he is going the way of Eyre, just not so soon enough.
  19. Yanks put up their 9th in row today going into the Subway series with the Mets this weekend. Depending on the outcome tonight of the Rocks/Sox game, they could be as close as 7.5. Not too shabby for a team left for dead only 2 weeks ago.
  20. Wow. Dont watch the replay. El Caballo landing on your ankle when it is planted = very bad. It was flopping and at an angle.
  21. The Saga Continues: Dukes was given last night off and may not play again until later in the weekend b/c of personal reasons. This is unbelievable but here we go. His step-grandmother is on the hook for watching this foster kid who is 17. Apparently he got the 17yr old pregnant (she is now 18) and she is due to deliver in November. So there is this whole thing with the media, the police, social services, him, etc, etc. He wont be charged b/c it was consensual and the age of consent is 16 in Fla. http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/newswire/story/dukes-relative-investigated-after-foster-child-impregnated/ The running tally is now 6 kids with 5 different women. This is a very expensive hobby he has. For god's sake man, keep it in your pants already.
  22. Not getting any better- 41 under now. Central v. East: 31-39 (42 of 70 is by Brewers and Cubs) West: 25-52 (the rest of the division mostly) IL: 18-24 Only NL clubs above 500 in IL are the Fish, Phils, Nats, and Cubs- which is very disheartening. And the Brewer Magic # now sits at 93.

    Verlander

The Neifury had another unbelievable web gem tonight. It was a bare-hand pick up of a rocket hit towards the hole at SS where he basically grabbed and flung in 1 motion. Dusty was very proud on BT.
  24. Wheeler blows it in the 8th vs. the As and goes into the dugout. Promptly gets into a confrontation with the game starter Sampson. Nice to see someone else doing it. Everyone is Kung Fu Fighting these days. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270613118
  25. Ah dont mind him. We have a history. He is still upset about the CP thing. Hopefully he will grow up soon. Until then, i just let everything he says roll down my back. We are all passionate Cub fans and have differing opinions on things but want the same result. But ty for the thought though.
