  1. That wasnt really a bad trade...just worked out badly as all Cub trades do. Lewis/Pratt for Cruz/Smyth. Cruz had 1 good year with the Braves and moved on. He definitely needed to get out of Chicago though. Lewis got messed up in the disaster with the Diamond Jax when they were moving people all over the place game after game. Dont know if it got to him or he just topped out on his talent, but his ceiling certainly looked higher at the time and we were looking for a 2b if you recall that could take over for the TWalk and Grudz show...pre-EP. Who knew that the answer was playing SS with the Diamond Jaxx then (Ryan Theriot)? I dont think anyone is worth 4 players...not even Texiera which the Rangers are looking for. A proven reliever in a pen that needs another proven arm + a young pitcher + someone else ought to get that deal done. Braves have a solid OF, probably wouldnt want or need JJ. Also Harris/Blanco/Francouer is their future OF. Chipper has signed at 3b. Escobar will be ready for SS when Renteria leaves. KJohnson is at 2b. 3 catchers is a luxury. Really only need areas are 1b and pitching staff. We could then flip a package of another arm + Barrett/JJ/ or MM for a good young SS talent somewhere. I really need to scan the farm reports and see whats available down in AA.
  2. Oh noes. I think i have seen this train wreck before. If this is true, Hendry needs to be either fired immediately or promoted to the Iraqi Interior Ministry. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=6337
  3. I really think you guys are selling Hoffpauir's ability short 312/350/889 isnt terrible for AAA. Was 268/362/956 last year in AA. Would like higher OPS, but he hasnt shown lots of pop...more of a line drive hitter. Maybe it takes another throw in or another team involved for some hot 3 way...either way i think Atl is the way to go.
  4. Thats Jason Biggs, Jason Marquis, and Mark Cuban. They all look very similar at different stages of their lives.
  5. Dont think they need him as they have Blanco in Richmond who is on pace with Pie's development to last season and ready to potentially break out like Pie did this year. He is Andruw's tabbed replacement. This is also Atlantas last gasp for a while. Their high farm system is not pretty and they are not going to be spending on FAs. Very well could be Bobby Cox's swan song too. Would think they might go for one more pennant.
  6. If we seriously hit them with a deal like Hoffpauir, Howry, and Cotts/Cherry or some other young pitcher (not Guzman or Marmol or any of our current starters), how in God's name would Schuerholz turn that down? Seriously the Braves dont have any high talent 1b prospects other than Thorman who is stuck around .230. I love Micah, but he does not have a future in Chicago. He is blocked at all of his spots. Howry addresses their need for setup relief and Cotts/Cherry could take either the Closer slot if Wickman falters or Cotts could take Gonzalez spot which has been a key problem since he blew out his elbow.
  7. Lou really should flip Lilly and Marquis for the next start. We have an off day on monday to flip them back. Seattle is a lefty team, the Fathers are the righty based team. On a side note- is this just me....Young Jason Marquis, Jason Marquis, an old Jason Marquis? http://movies-by-actor.com/jason_biggs.jpg http://images.filmmagic.com/images/tnm/11649239.jpg http://www.dvguru.com/images/2005/07/mark_cuban.jpg
  8. I would rather see a trade for a Catcher that is serviceable long term or just to give the kids a shot in Soto/Hill. I think Blanco hasnt been healthy for a while. He may have a resurgence, but isnt the long term solution. I would rather find the solution than the band aid. All Barrett is doing is irritating me, the fans, his teammates, and the pitching staff. The pitchers that have moved on from us dont speak well of him. Piniella doesnt seem to enjoy his though process either- although he did defend him in the post game last night saying it wasnt just on Barretts shoulders. But his avg, obp, and ops is nothing special in looking at the rest of the league and his defense is atrocious. He does lead the league for C in HR by 1 but it just doesnt do it for me. Would like to see a deal probably with the Braves. They have 3 catchers and find themselves outgunned in both a knife (Philly) and a gun fight(Mets). We can help their pitching if they can help us behind the dish. But Hendry has to hit it with urgency, the Braves arent going to hang around much longer and the price will go up if they drop out of the race.
  9. please kids, stop drinking the Kool Aid.
  10. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AqdU70CQTMnqgs9Thb34Kisp0bYF?slug=ap-cardinals-wilson&prov=ap&type=lgns Season ending knee surgery. Eckstein had to leave in the 4th tonight with lower back tightening and is listed as day to day.
  11. Wow, SD is obliterating TB atm. Jackson went .1 and gave up 5 ER. Hammel has gone 2.1, given up 3, and has the bases loaded now. 8-0 in the 3rd.
  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-athletics-beaneextension&prov=ap&type=lgns The fighting Billy Beaners live to fight on for 7 more years. Mike Crowley also got an extension. Looks like the club is settling in for the long haul with the new stadium.
  13. Lou should start Ted on short rest for Thursday against Seattle. I realize that means we have the 3 lefties in a line, but the Mariners really dont have any righty threats except Guillen with Beltre out of the lineup as long as you dont play with Sexson and try to blow his doors off. SD is who we play this weekend and they are a predominantly right handed team with only Gonzalez batting lefty in their lineup. So Lou should skip Marquis a day and put Ted up against the Ms on Thurs imo. Off day on Monday so we could reset next week.
  14. =D> \:D/ :lol:
  15. IBL. Thread already in transactions. [-X \:D/
  16. Think the problem is the Cubs were concerned b/c Gallagher threw 54 pitches on Sat. nite. As you say he is a starter and the Cubs were probably erring on the side of caution with a young arm hoping they could give him one more game off. As i have said many times, this is the reason i hate loogys b/c they cant simply eat innings when the bullpen is trashed and needs help. Its a luxury that only a few teams can afford, and the Cubs simply arent one of those teams. We need the roster spot. Interestingly enough, it appears the Cubs have been working on Rapada and have been using him lately against right handers. He was closing in Iowa which i was not aware of going 9 for 9. Hopefully he can step up and be the lefty setup man we desperately need late.
  17. My bold prediction for this evening: If you are old, have small children, or are squeamish, please turn off the telly. Lou is going old school like Larussa did with Thompson last nite. Marshall is going at least 7 tonight whether or not he gives up 45 runs. Hopefully Sean has it together tonight and can rest the pen. Beltre should not be playing tonight, so outside of Guillen, no exceptionally tough right handers to contend with. Just dont throw the cheese to Sexson.
  18. El mergo with existing thread plaz. Interesting 13 pitchers now. But then again our bullpen is wrecked.
  19. Rapada is...will have to check on Pigs. Edit: Pigs is not currently on the 40.
  20. Dear God. Wrong Left handed reliever Jim. He is a LOOGY (which doesnt exist). ](*,) We want :pig: Please give us PIGS!
  21. Yes on 1st ballot. Everyone who says it took him x number of years to make 3000 hits is wrong. It takes talent to make a team year after year (unless you can blackmail your GM, but that is another story) to get those hits. He was a catcher long before becoming a 2b and CF and its not fun nor easy being a catcher in the MLs these days. He is approaching the all time record for hit batsmen. You may say that this is a crazy meaningless stat (other than the OBP), but you look at the number of times he has been on the DL in his career and you can see that this is a tough guy who likes to play ball. He has avg. 143 games a year in his first 19 seasons. That includes the strike year of 115 games and his rookie season of near 50. He had only one season really stopped by injuries. 11 years with 150+ games, 5 at 160+, and 3 years at 162. That is amazing durability coupled with production. Then there is the 1 team thing. Dont see that very much at all anymore. Would be good not only for him but for the franchise.
  22. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/sports_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_83_5583634,00.html Interesting read and something i was thinking about the other day. What I think it is is the marginal players are better than they used to be and the stars are the same...so its a narrowing of the greatness gap. But he has several very good points. There really isnt that much difference in the top tier players anymore.
  23. A vote for Abuck is a vote for the Loogy System- if it existed.
  24. Lidge is quickly becoming LaTroy Hawkins Redux.
