If DeRosa was a better option than Theriot, they probably would have done that last year. My issue with this super utility thing I keep hearing is that there really isn't a place for a super utility player to play regularly if they get all the guys they are talking about getting. For example, if the Cubs go into 2008 with: Soto, Lee, Roberts, Theriot, Ramirez, Soriano, Pie and Fukudome, the only place DeRosa would sub regularly would probably be at SS. And if that's the case, I like DeRosa way more than Theriot, so let Theriot be the super sub and live with sub par defense at SS, whether that guy be DeRosa or Roberts. But then who would've played second for them last year? Or are you saying if DeRosa was better he would've played SS while Theriot played 2B? Even then though, I think it's something you'd have to look at and see if the difference in fielding is that great. Even if Theriot is better but the difference isn't all that much, I think it's something you have to pursue given the numbers DeRosa put up last year.
