That is altogether irrelevant. So we're going to give him a 1 year deal to sit on the bench until June-July? If I'm keeping Prior on this team I want complete leverage. I want Prior under contract this year, and I want the team to have a team or mutual option for 09. He's not going to give us that, so trade him and keep the $2.8M free to make some moves. There is no reason to put this much time and effort into this guy right now.

The Cubs should absolutely try DeRosa as the SS if they acquire Roberts. He's actually been good there according to a small sample UZR. He has the arm to play 3B and RF and the range to play 2B. Just because the Cubs management thinks Theriot is a better defensive SS doesn't mean he is. And even if Theriot was, the margin isn't that great to justify starting Theriot's bat over DeRosa's.

What would we do with DeRosa then? SS? Trade him? That dumb supersub option?
