  1. ....and too many yards passing...... .... and too many points .......
  2. He's returned to the sidelines from the locker room.
  3. That's a terrible spot of the ball.
  4. That always makes me nervous !!
  5. Nice coverage by Urlacher there !!
  6. If that's true.. then FOX had incorrect data. Imagine that. I thought the BEARS scored first on a FG against Green Bay, then went down 3-7.
  7. Where the hell is Orton throwing ??
  8. Well..... Each team has run 5 plays and taken up 2:52 off the clock. Pretty even game so far, eh ? [sigh]
  9. Let the congregation say AMEN !!
  10. No real news here, but this is Bruce Miles' Sunday column........ http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=131001
  11. That seems appropriate, seeing as how there's about a 50% chance that the BEARS offense will score a touchdown !!

  14. How 'bout Hairston, Fontenot & a player to be retired later for Tejada and a suitcase full of twenties ???
  15. Anyone know who the oldest major leaguer was? Stachel Paige pitched for the Kansas City Royals in 1965 at the age of 58 and Orestes "Minnie" Minoso played for the white sox in 1980 at the age of 57. I believe these 2 qualify as the 1-2 in oldest men to play in the majors. Neither man played regularly at their advanced age. Page was last used regularly in 1952 by the St Louis Browns at the age of 45, while Minoso was last a regular player in 1963 with the Washington Senators at the age of 40.
  16. Wasn't Ty Griffin a third baseman ?
  17. Point taken about Pierre's career numbers vs. his '05 season. I did that purposely because I believe that in '06 we can reasonably expect him to perform closer to his career averages than to his '05 performance. This is an example of regression toward the mean. Everything is relative, Soul. Pujols replacing DLee is a slight improvement. Pierre replacing Neifi Perez, Corey Patterson et al in the leadoff slot is a huge improvement.
  18. This is a whole lot more than a slight upgrade...... 04/04 - 10/02 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS CUBS '05 leadoff 690 83 168 33 2 13 244 55 44 96 0.243 0.297 0.354 0.650 Pierre career avg 654 100 199 22 9 2 245 47 43 40 0.305 0.355 0.375 0.730 This is enough of an upgrade to take the team's OBP (0.324) from 11th place in the National League up to league average (0.330). If the CUBS are able to pull off a deal for a stud right fielder and get the kind of production out of Cedeno & Murton that we all are hoping for, this will be a very strong offensive unit.

  20. Hell, I'd be willing to throw in J Hairston Jr if that's what it'd take to put them over the top, eh? If only we still had Macias to throw in. Hey... it hasn't been 10 days yet since we DFA'd him, has it ???

  22. I've got the feeling, nothing to back it up mind you, that Murton would make a pretty good #2 hitter. I have that feeling myself. But, Dusty is the manager, so I don't believe Murton would be an option. Much as I hate to admit it, you're probably right.

  24. Barrett never saw the #2 hole in '05, and going off of memory alone, he didn't do very well in limited time there in '04. But you could make the argument that the #8 spot doesn't agree with him at all. 25. Haha, I don't think I'll ever forget chanting that that night. What a great game. I feel compeled to add that while Vance and Mizzou were busy hurling mean-spirited and hurtful insults at Mr. Pierre, I was notably absent; having retreated to the back row of the bleachers to indulge my tobacco addiction. Now, if anybody would be interesting in purchasing some land for development in South Florida, just PM me. If you remember our discussion that night, Fred...it looks like we now have the "one-trick pony." Now, let's go out and get that stud right fielder everybody's been talking about.
