  1. In other news, the Red Sox just blew a 9-run lead to the Yankees, at home. There's gonna be a meltdown in Boston.
  2. It's have been nice to get more for Byrd, but he's off to an abysmal start and in the final year of his contract and has no real value beyond that because of the new CBA. I would have waited to see if he could boost his value a bit, but there wasn't going to be a great return for him regardless. I think he should have been traded last year, but that's water under the bridge.
  3. And Hawk didn't call it, which is a big plus.
  4. So far, so good. 16th trip on the DL. Good example for the younger players. Sure hope this doesn't affect his bowling night. Never throw a baseball because the unnatural arm motion creates higher risk for arm injuries? Seems like a weird thing to teach a baseball player. He's setting a bad example for those kids who are in danger of recklessly injuring themselves. He's always injuring himself. He's a clubhouse cancer.
  5. nobody likes you. Gee Kap, I sure didn't see this coming. To be fair, it's probably just because you're an irrational, hateful monster. But unlike Kerry's injury problems, you actually have control of that.
  6. You're not kidding. That bastard has no luck. And Chase Headley is hitting .292/.435/.646 with 4 HR despite playing for the 1 team putting up a legit fight in the fecal league. Luckily, we have 2 MVP candidates in Marlon Byrd and Geovany Soto. What did the Pads want for Headley again, or did the talks ever get that far? I don't know if he was available at all, but he would have cost a hell of a lot more than Stewart did. And I haven't given up on Stewart. He has worked the count and hit the ball a lot better than his numbers indicate, at least to this point. Plus he is a pretty damned good defender. Chase Headley wouldn't be a difference maker for this mess anyway.
  7. It's not out of the question, but individual performances have been down, the competition has been tough and the coming departures will be somewhat offset (hopefully) buy equal or better replacements from the minors. Add the markedly weaker second half schedule and I'll say 100 losses isn't likely. I thought the first few weeks were going to be brutal, though not this bad. I'll guess 71-73 wins.
  8. You're not kidding. That bastard has no luck.
  9. Soto is not really this bad and if we're going to ship him out, it's best to let him build some value. Benching him now wouldn't be the wisest thing to do. Soto is awful. Not only is he a below-average hitter but I'd say he's one of the worst fielding catchers in baseball and he can't throw anyone out. He was in the top 5 in CS% last year and has typically thrown out between 25-30% of would be base stealers in his career, which is decidedly not bad. He's not Yadi Molina, but he's not the worst defensive catcher around, or even close. He's off to a slow start, but he's in good shape, had a strong spring and in an "on" year in his on/off offensive pattern. You let Soto play.

  12. Theo was really stressed out from all those high-pressure years in Boston, and Ricketts is a meatball who thinks that good players making too much money was a reason we were bad. And Ricketts paid too much for the Cubs and can't afford a $130 million payroll while he pays off the rest of what he owes. Don't forget the cost of those lavish safaris, where he goes to willfully neglect his club.
  13. I just hate it with this current Cubs offense. I've always hated it. It sucked when we had a bunch of power hitters, too.
  14. Is that an indictment of the pitchers, catchers or Marlins? Geo was making some great throws, so I'm thinking it has a lot to do with the Marlins and something to do with pitchers and less to do with Geo. Clevenger seems to have a feeble arm, though.
  15. Pat was saying the outfielder screwed it up because he thought it was out for sure. Yeah, it was mashed. That said, Heisey was essentially camped under it. I can only image he looked up and saw it sailing out of the yard, just to see the wind literally push it back into his vision, and thus he dropped it. He ran back to the wall as if it were out, but turned square to it and had plenty of time to watch himself muff it. It was bad.

  17. I know this knife cuts both ways, but I really, really hate cold weather, wind blowing in baseball at Wrigley. Hate it.
  18. Go away Rayvonte he's probably better than sal mineo or whatever that guy's name was. Maniscalco? Sam was a "PG", Rice is a wing. Two different types of player. We have a grip of four star wings, but a shortage of point guards. Rice would be kind of redundant.
  19. He's got good stuff, it seems his problems primarily stem from a lack of control it seems. There's potential there, and I have no problem swapping one year of Zambrano for him.
  20. Lol, LaHair. It looked like he was moving in slo-mo.
