  1. I'm not concerned with Soler's ability to stay on the field, I'm just not as sold on his ability to perform as the other three. He's got all the tools, but that's a guarantee of nothing. I have high hopes for him, but if I had to point at one of these guys as the biggest bust risk, it's him. That's not to say I'm down on him, though, I just like the chances of the other three better. But I think Soler could be a monster.
  2. That's crazy. Soler already looks like much less than a lock. I read it that way too but I think he meant he'd be beyond shocked if all 4 were busts. Yup. That's more than reasonable, I think it's unlikely in the absolute extreme that all four bust.
  3. At this point it would be easy to see Soler never really developing, Almora getting bogged down with injuries, Baez becoming good MLB regular who never fulfills his potential due to his aggressiveness and Bryant as a 30 HR guy with strikeout issues as a realistic scenario. Certainly more likely than all four coming near their ceilings. I'm a little more optimistic than that, but no so much as to expect all four to become first division players.
  4. http://cdn2.mocksession.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/LOL-CRAFT.gif even better than the first Aarball hahahaha
  5. Came up empty on 34% of his swings. Doesn't matter. He can develop the ability to make more contact and hit for way more power. Yeah, my expectations for Lake aren't high at all given his issues, but I wouldn't consign him to the scrap heap yet, that's for sure. Awkwarddddd... I was totally being sarcastic. Welp, I missed that, I guess. I stand by what I said though. In a lost season, I'd give him a shot to work some of it out or crash and burn.
  6. Fortunately these putzes are pretty deep in the minority.

  8. I don't need to like or respect athletes to root for them. Yeah, the vast majority of professional athletes are idiots, assholes or worse. I'll settle for my favorite players not falling into the "worse" category. If respecting them personally was a requisite for rooting for them, I'd have a problem being a sports fan.
  9. That's really disappointing, but at the end of the day there are things that athletes believe/profess more openly and profusely that are far more annoying to me.
  10. Nice that Abrams had one of his few games where he doesn't infuriate me. And of course the Purdue/NW losses are keeping us out. You knew they were going to be big trouble when they happened, especially the Purdue game. I don't think Illinois gets in unless they win the tournament.
  11. I'm still holding on to a faint hope that Barney ends up elsewhere before long.
  12. That'd be redundant. How about for every fWAR Olt accrues, Kyle takes a year hiatus from NSBB.
  13. Well, this game has gone about as well as could have been expected with the lineup posted. Almost all the big name prospects got into the game in some capacity, Olt with a big night (and no Ks), Baez with a moon shot (all three HRs were really hit)...not bad.
  14. It looked bad. He threw a pitch, obviously hurt his elbow, and walked straight into the clubhouse in pain.
  15. It's not for quite the same reasons, but yeah, taking a game from Iowa always feels good. Especially in their building during a down year for us and an up year for them. Illinois v. Iowa are always games I circle on my calendar. On a more objective note, Iowa was a team that was being counted on to represent the B1G well in the tournament this year, and I have no idea what to make of them at this point, and things are not trending well for them. Unless they pick things up next week, I'll probably be picking them to go out in the first weekend.
  16. This is just typical veteran baseball player stupidity. He was apparently asked if he could put up numbers like Trout, that's a question about 2014, not 2004. What he did last decade has nothing to do with anything. He had a down year due to injuries. He was a 5 win player the year before. He shouldn't need to ask that question because he knows he's capable of doing it because he's already set that precedent. The question should've been about his health, not whether or not he could match the ridiculous numbers of a 21 year old wunderkind. He hasn't been a 5 win player since 2010 and has been in clear decline for 3 consecutive seasons. http://i.imgur.com/z74EBgD.png All the cool kids use fWAR. But seriously, Albert's days of being an elite player, never mind in the same class as Mike Trout, are over. He's been in clear decline in just about every measurable category since 2009. If I had to put money on it, I'd wager he never sees 5 WAR (b or f) again. My intuition tells me that he's probably a 3-4 win player right now, if healthy.
  17. Exactly how I feel. Yeah, me too. Olt becoming close to what he was expect to be would be a huge boost. And I'm not going to lie, I'm becoming irrationally optimistic that he will, though that might just be the Kool-Aid.
  18. Yeah, the Illini haven't played their best defensive game by a longshot, but there's not much to be done when a team shoots like this. Michigan has just been unconscious.
  19. Does anyone outside of Hammons play defense for Purdue? Awful.
  20. Was just watching a replay of today's game on MLB Network, and holy cow, Vogelbach looks downright svelte (relatively). The pictures didn't do the weight loss justice, he looks like a completely different player than the one who was drafted.
  21. Iowa's struggles surprise me, but I've been thoroughly unimpressed with what I've seen from OSU all year. I think they're fortunate to have won as many as they have.
  22. I don't want to imagine what Crean does while in front of a mirror.
  23. The joys of being ambidextrous. I'm the same way. Write left, throw/bat right. I can swing a racket with either hand. My left is more dominant, but my right has more power. This is all useless information. It may be cross (or mixed) dominance rather than true ambidexterity. Truly ambidextrous people can use either hand for just about anything with equal ease and efficacy, almost regardless of conditioning. Cross dominance is slightly more common. That said, it's fascinating to see the different permutations cross dominance takes. I write/draw with my left hand (which sucks), throw overhand with my left, but underhanded with my right. If I throw a punch, my right is the dominant. I can switch hit with ease in baseball, but I'm a wreck if I try to play golf left handed. It's weird how such similar actions can be dominated by different sides.
  24. Call me crazy, but I'm buying it. I think we might actually get something out of him, at least it's orders of magnitude more likely than BJax turning it around, imo. And Wittenmyer isn't exactly known for his fluff pieces. In the last two days, between this and the Almora piece, he has been fluffy as [expletive]. That said, if Olt is actually a thing....with Baez at 2B, that is just some stupidly ridiculously absurd power in the infield...and then the possibility of Soler and Bryant at the corners...goodness. I hadn't read the Almora piece. But yeah, if Olt becomes anything approximating what was expected of him a year ago, it's going to be a nice problem to have.
  25. I knew they were coming, but from writers like Muskat. Wittenmyer seems predisposed to taking shits on anything positive, so this gets my attention more than most fluff pieces. But we'll see, I guess.
