  1. I have a feeling that Eyre is going to be a Baker favorite this year. I hope Dusty doesn't burn him out.
  2. That's comforting. And I was starting to worry.
  3. Dunn was leading off second, pickoff play, Dunn stumbles back over ther bag and nearly into CF. And we couldn't get him out? :? The throw got away.

  5. Is it fantasy to want an outfield that isn't a complete offensive disaster two years running? Or to have a semblance of international scouting anymore? Or to stop overpaying in money in years for middle relievers? With all due repsect, I don't think you can classify LF and CF asa "complete offensive disaster". Last year, yes. This year, no. Say what you will about RF, but to call this year's entire OF a "disaster" is a bit hyperbolic. They aren't going to be very good offensively, especially if Murton doesn't hit for a lot of power. LF and CF are the two strongest parts, but neither is all that impressive and having one of them as your best production from an OF spot is embarrassing. Embarassing? Last year's OF was emabrassing. This year's projects to be mediocre.
  6. Yes. At least wait for him to suck for a few weeks first. He hasn't proven anything, that he sucks included.

  8. Hold onto it and waive it in the crowd and it is funny and clever. Create a sign with syringes and waive them and it's funny and clever. Throwing stuff on the field is never funny nor clever. No offense, but if I saw someone at Wrigley do that I'd call an usher and have the person escorted from the park. Throwing a plastic syringe on the field is funny and clever. Running onto the field with either a plastic or real syringe would cross the line. As other people have said, loosen up about it. It's not that big of a deal. Yes, it is. Not the act itself, but the precedent it sets. If anything is certain, it is that if one boob does somthing like this and goes unpunished, others will follow. And honestly, it wasn't that original. In fact it seemed almost cliche.

No offense, but if I saw someone at Wrigley do that I'd call an usher and have the person escorted from the park. I agree. Heck, make a giant papier mache syringe and wave it around. Make a sign, call him names, heckle him untill your lungs fall out. But you don't throw stuff in the field, ever. There's nothing uptight about maintaining some semblence of orderly behavior.
  10. I wouldn't. Len has a good sense of humor and has been gracious enough to do a Q&A here, but he is terrible in the booth. I'd rather listen to Ron and Brenly. I would rather be struck deaf than listen to Ron and Brenly together.
  11. I really agree with you on this. It is entertaining and that's what the broadcast is supposed to be to the majority of listeners. `In depth discussions of stats is very boring to the majority of the general public. The radio broadcasts are aimed at the general public and Santo's living and dying the game is appealling to many. I don't need an indepth discussion of stats. I need an announcer that can concentrate and talk about the game, without blowing smoke up undeserving butts and trailing off onto tangents that have nothing to do with the game. Keep Ron for occasional diversions, but they need to do a better job talking about the baseball games. He's the color man. Who would you like to see? Both broadcast teams are terrible. Santo is McDonough's boy and could care less what the Cub fans think. Santo has such an inferiority complex about himself, that it just drips during every game. How many times per game are we going to hear about his 'medical problems'? It was at least 5 times yesterday and I was only able to listen for part of the game. Brenly is no better. In reading the lineup at the bottom of the 1st, he had Jerry Hairston at second-not Walker. Not only had Walker batted in the top of the 1st, he was on the screen taking a practice throw. This is not acceptable in any way for the Cubs. I would amend that to say both color men are terrible. Hughes is good, and Kasper is very good, IMO.
  12. Throwing things on the field is definitely not OK, but I think I would have busted a gut if someone threw high heels at Finley. I know for a fact that people threw bits of cork at Sammy, so TT may be making a sarcastic comment about incidents that actually happened. I thought cork might have been thrown at Sammy, but if shoes were chucked at Finley I missed it.
  13. Oh, I agree. I think a fan who throws something at a fan should be banned from that ballpark, permenantly.

  15. I love Santo, and think he is a great Cubs fan and an asset to the Cubs community. Having said that, I find him painful to listen to.
  16. PMR has Dunn a little above average for a leftfielder, above such players as Shannon Stewart, Jason Bay, and Todd Hollandsworth. He's always had relatively good speed for a guy his stature, and obviously he's not going to drop many more balls that hit him in the glove. He'll never win any gold gloves for sure, but he's far from a fish out of water in LF. I have never been a big fan of defensive metrics (and I am a big fan of offensive metrics). I have watched a lot of Adam Dunn, and I love him at the plate. Having said that, there is no way in Hades I buy that he is even an average defender in the OF. Better than Stewart and Hollandsworth? Not in this reality. He is slow and awkward. He doesn't get to many balls. All you have to do is watch him play, it is self evident. He is serviceable at best.
  17. I noticed those "Young" comments. They made me ill. Dusty you can keep on saying I never had any young players before. To bad it's not believable. I think you guys are analyzing FAR too much into those comments. Why must most everything Baker says be spun in the most negative light possible? Because after listening to and watching him over the past 3+ years, most of us have learned that the most negative possible interpretation of his words and actions is most often the correct one. Having said that, I read nothing into his "young" comments.
  18. You would have a valid point if not for one small detail....HIS DEFENSE HAS ALWAYS SUCKED, AND TODAY'S PERFORMANCE WAS NOTHING NEW. Dunn has DH written all over him. He always has.
  19. If Miles has a good year, I will be convinced that Jocketty and LaRussa have signed some sort of Faustian pact signed in the blood of Cubs fans.
