  1. Make a good argument putting them in front of either UCLA, Indiana, UNC, Duke, or Kentucky. The top 5 go ahead I will wait for it. KU is a top 10 program or second tier. Hey Bill, that Sommerville kid can shoot might want to guard him. I think they're in front of Duke. They had a few Final Four appearances in the 60's, but other than that they were pretty much irrelevant until the late 80's. Yeah they've quite possibly been the best program since 1989, but that's not all that matters. It's close and they're right there, but I would give them the nod. There is a real ebb and flow to these things, IMO. A few years ago, I would have agreed with you, but Kansas hasn't looked like a top 5 in a while. I really don't buy the notion of evaluating programs based on overall history. UCLA is a good example. Historically, they have been the best, but they are not one of the top 5 or even 10 programs right now. These recruits are 16, 17 and 18 year old kids, and I am fairly certain that they are more concerned with what they know from current coaches and the media rather than what the likes of John Wooden, Adolph Rupp or Phog Allen did when their parents or grandparents were children. And it is the recruits that dictate the future of a program. To me, the bottom line is whar programs have done recently.
  2. Rush is gone as soon as he can be. If the age limit hadn't been put in place, he would have bypassed college altogether. Thinking that Rush and Wright will stick around for the program is a fool's hope. As for Self, he can coach, but not nearly as well as he can recruit. IMO, the success he has had has been more a product of riding the talent more than brilliant coaching. And let's not forget that as good a recruiter as Self is, it's not like he has a long history of it like Coach K or Roy Williams. And if I am not mistaken, Gordon his a more highly rated recruit than any that Self brought to Champaign. Sure, that may be a product of Weber parlaying the success of Self's recruits into his own, but no more than Self building off Roy Williams' success. And UI will get back to or near 2005 level in 2008 or 2009, IMO. Especially if Weber can land Rose. Illinois has gotten a lot more press than usual in the past few years, and that is definately going to be a boon to Weber's recruiting efforts.
  3. Well, Missouri is technically less than two hours away from both Kansas City and St. Louis. That has to count for something. Being close to St. Louis counts for something, but it isn't good.
  4. ok. his team had a 100 mil+ payroll and finished in fourth place and with a losing record. enough said Let's not forget all the injuries that cost the Cubs star players. There is not a doubt in my mind that if Dusty Baker had a healthy squad, we may have at least one ring to brag about in the past 2 years. Not to sound too apologetic on Baker's part. You can't disregard the injuries to the pitching staff, Nomar, and others. And I don't think anyone (including Baker) want a championship more than the true Cub fans do. NOBODY. The injuries were certainly a huge factor. But when you are doing things like batting sub-.300 OBP guys in front of your triple crown candidate when the offense is struggling, running out a guy to close who everyone knows can't close, letting lousy veterans languish in the everyday lineup when there are better options, etc. you aren't helping the cause.
  5. Looks that way this year. Actually it looks that way most years. Yup, especially when the Big Ten perennially sends one or two teams to the final four.
  6. Dirty as hell. On another note, I honestly would rather have seen the last shot go to McBride or Smith.
  7. Congrats, Washington. You just got a huge gift.
  8. It's just wrong.
  9. Where are these refs from?
  10. The foul differential in this game is insane.
  11. I don't get the game here, but are the refs as whistle happy as they seem on gamecenter?
  12. That's just completely false. Greg Brunner hardly ever complained to officials. Ask any Big Ten fans on this board who actually watched the games for four years, rather than just looking at the stats, seeing a couple games on ESPN and making your assessment off of that. But hey maybe the Big Ten Wonk guy said it once, so it must be true, right? On second thought, how could you make such a claim when it can't be found in any stat sheet? Remember, your eyes can decieve you or you can overreact to one thing you see, so you've got to use the stats. I would be willing to bet that even illiniguy would disagree with you. I will admit that I didn't see Brunner complain much, but he always seemed to have a real air of exasperation about him when things didn't go his way. Many of my Hawk fan friends have said the same thing. He was a real good player, though.
  13. I cannot stand how they cut to commercial on seemingly every single clock stoppage. I know they need to earn their advertising dollars, but it is still annoying.
  14. Prediction: UConn will not make it to the final four.
  15. This is shaping up to be a real bad day.
  16. I was thinking the same thing. It is annoying as hell.
  17. ....and UConn takes the lead.
  18. Maybe going to the National League has something to do with it. Clemens' resurgence occurred well before he came to the NL. I'm not trying to insinuate anything, but I don't think coming to the NL had anything to do with anything.
  19. And the worst part of the NCAA's is getting involved in one of these potential upsets just to have Goliath kick David at the end.
  20. Ugh. UConn right on Albany now.
  21. This is why I stopped putting money on the NCAA's. I enjoy watching this stuff happen free of any conflict of interest.
  22. WTF is MSU doing? I don't have the game here, but I can't understand how they are losing to GMU.
  23. Up 10 with 14 to go.
  24. MSU better get it together.
  25. Poor Drayton, having one of those backloaded contracts coming back to bite him in the arse.
