  1. Time for Fielder to hit into a triple play.
  2. It's a marketing ploy to help the locals identify with their team.
  3. Gotta figure Yost is going to ph for CC.
  4. If Yost brings CC back out next inning I'm gonna be rotflmao.
  5. They're biased because Gagne isn't killing their team. Gagne has bit them more than a few times.
  6. I'm not sure that's possible.
  7. they don't make the playoffs? I saw this topic on Brewerfan.net, and thought it was worth discussion. Personally, I think it would be a devastating blow. After last year, a lot of people invested themselves in the Brewers for 2008. This might not seem like a big deal, but you have to keep in mind that the Brewers place a distant second to the Packers (and even the Badgers) in the sporting consciousness of Wisconsinites, and sellouts were a fairly foreign concept prior to 2007. So what happens if after all the hype and buildup, after trading for CC, the Crew completely craps the bed? And then Sheets and CC leave on top of it? I think baseball in Milwaukee takes a huge step back. Sure, you'll still have the die hards, but I don't think you sell out many games (or sell as many season tickets) in 2009, which will affect the payroll. I also think playoff prospects for 2009 and the following few years go way down. Attanasio wants to spend, but if there is a reversion to the days of half full Miller Park, I don't see how he will be able to. There is a lot invested in this season for the Crew. And as much as I am beginning to dislike the Brewers, it's nice to have a change of pace from the Cards and Astros for our main competition. Am I off base here?
  8. I'm not panicking. The reason has no basis other than that if this were any other year, the Brewers would be tearing it up right now. I find it kind of odd that the second place team in the division (and probably the second best team in the NL) happens to go straight in the crapper at the same time the Cubs do. I haven't been a Cubs fan as long as some (though for my whole sports following life), but this sort of luck feels very much unlike anything I can remember. As for a more tangible reason, the Cubs are in a position that would make it nearly impossible not to make the playoffs. I think Brewer fans who are freaking out would do well to realize the same applies for them. Prior to this horrid stretch, the Cubs had gone 26-5. You just don't play that well for long before the law of averages catches up with you. The Cubs have had just about everything that could go wrong go wrong lately, but being far and away the best team in the league for most of the season will help cushion the blow (and again, having the Crew tank at the same time helps). The Cubs (and Brewers) are simply too good for this to continue for long.
  9. KRod destination? It seems pretty obvious to me that Minaya will go all out after him.
  10. Have they ever played this game when both teams are not ranked or did that happen last year? Michigan was not ranked last year at this time. That team was at least good though. This is the worst ND/UM game i can think of. Yeah, it's entirely possible Michigan loses at least 5 games in Big Ten play this year. I can't recall a UM team looking this mediocre.
  11. I think it's a bit premature to write him off this early. Let's see if he can adjust next year. I think Kosuke will be better next year, since I really think most of this is in his head. It seems to me that he started trying to hit for more power, which changed his approach. The caused him to struggle more, which only made things worse. It seems like he became significantly less selective, which was what made him so good in April/May. At this point, I think he has lost track of himself. I think he just needs to get some distance and clear his head, and it may well take the offseason to do it. Having said that, I am not entirely surprised at the way this season has gone for him.
  12. Yeah, that's gonna hurt. How old is he? Does he make a comeback or just pack it in and retire? Guy has to be in his mid-30's I'd guess. He's 37. I think his days as an elite closer are pretty much done.
  13. Hasn't Edmonds been pretty good despite his low BA recently? An .880 OPS in August and a 1.122 so far in September. A 653 OPS in the last 14 days. And again, a 1.122 in the past 7. I can do the small sample size thing, too. The guy's production has been declining from his midsummer high, but he's far from a black hole at this point. Now if he posts a .700 OPS for the entire month of September, then I'll worry. But as long as there is a strict platoon, I don't see it being a serious issue. I understand, I wasn't trying to say much with that other than, his past month has been a bit of up and down. He's disappeared a couple times, but seems to wake up with a big game now and then. I think the rest is good for him. I agree.

  16. I really want no part of the DBacks in a short series. Yes, Webb has pitched like crap of late, and Haren had faded in the second half as usual. But they are still the team that makes me nervous.
  17. Magic number? Ah yes, didn't think of that #-o And you gotta love the Angels' magic number. That has been the very definition of a one horse race.
  18. Magic number?
  19. Reminds me a little of Dusty putting the whip to our starters down the stretch in 2003. Seemed like the only reliever he would use at that time was Remlinger.......... my memory could be a little fuzzy............trying to forget........ It was Remlinger and Borowski with a light sprinkling of the Farns. That was about it. And yeah, Yost is wearing his spurs and has his riding crop, just like Dusty in 2003. The only difference is that the Crew won't have to worry about CC or Sheets beyond this year.
  20. I may be a baseball heretic, but after a few years of consideration, I have come to realize that I really don't care that over half the league was 'roided up during that era. I have tried, but I just don't care. It was a load of fun and I don't feel the least bit guilty about enjoying the hell out of it. I hate Bonds, but that has a lot less to do with his PED use than the fact that he is a paranoid, racist megalomaniac. Oh, and if some team takes McGwire back and Bonds still can't get a job, can you imagine the righteous indignation that Bonds would lay on everyone? I can scarcely conceive of it.
  21. I wouldnt worry too much. With the combination of the 9-1 lead at the time, and Santo being a senile old coot, I doubt theres anything wrong. He didn't look good on the bases, but I doubt it is anything abnormal for Ramirez (his legs always seem to give him problems, particularly late into the season).
  22. They never could afford him to begin with. The guys looking at a record shattering contract for a pitcher, maybe even for anyone. His first choices are the Dodgers, Angels, and Giants, and at the off chance that none of them want him, the Yankees will offer him something ridiculous, especially now that they're done throwing money down the toilets known as Pavano and Giambi. It wouldn't surprise me if the Brewers spend some money this offseason with thier big attendance numbers. I'm sure they will, but they're not competing with LA/NY. It's just not going to happen, and it never was. And even if the money were all equal, CC is in LA (where I hear he is building a house) next year. He has had some fluffy things to say about Milwaukee, but I would bet a kidney that Brewtown isn't even on the periphery of his plans for 2009. The Brewers have had a nice year, and Attanasio has shown that he will spend a bit, but to think that means they can or will suddenly step into the ring with the payroll behemoths is foolishness. They'll have their hands more than full trying to retain Sheets, which they probably won't (my money's on one of the Texas teams). If I were a Brewer fan, I would have been scouting players to use the draft picks on from the day CC arrived in Milwaukee.
  23. Yeah, Howry has become the human gas can. It's too bad, but he cannot be used for anything besides garbage time at this point.
  24. I'm not sure about that. I'd rather skip starts now than the middle of the month, when the schedule is going to be tougher. The 12th through the 25th is going to be the time to drop the hammer, IMO. Particularly during Milwaukee's 7 gamer in Philly and Chicago. They may close a game or two on us in the interim, but that's where the Cubs can really put it away, I think. Also, that 4 game series with at the Mets looks like it may be relevant.
