  1. I think people have been picking on Cashner because he's "just a middle reliever", which is stupid because anyone who has been paying any attention knows his future is almost certainly as a starter. Anyone who is trashing on Cashner's value because he was switched back to the pen by a desperate front office is doing so strictly to try and denigrate Wilkin and not because it makes a lick of sense.
  2. The only explanation I can think of is that Wilken & co. had info that another team was in on him, but that's a stretch. Like others, the pick itself doesn't bother me, just the need to use a first round pick, especially when we're light on hitters and some of the best hitters in the draft were right there.
  3. It rained during nearly all of the Bears-Colts Super Bowl. A warm rain in Miami is not nearly the same as a cold, rainy, windy February night in NJ.
  4. Being guaranteed perfect conditions in a dome can favor one team over another as well. It works both ways. Not as much, IMO. A bruising running team can play it's game in just about any conditions. A finesse passing team would be really hampered by cold, wind and rain.
  5. Personally, I'd prefer the game be played in a locale where weather isn't likely to be a factor at all, since it could favor one team over another. Combine that with the fact I think cold weather, grind it out football is antiquated and boring as hell, and I'm not a big fan of this. I'm not upset or anything, I just don't care for it.
  6. For some reason, I think his pitch recognition has gone to hell. Maybe he needs Lasik, who knows. And the more he struggles, the more he's probably pressing.
  7. Definitely. It was a revelation after that greased up windshield look of the SD feed I had to look at the past few years.
  8. And thank god for the MLB network, because I'd otherwise have to sit through an intolerably disproportionate amount of coverage of a finals I literally could not care less about to get to baseball. Lakers/Celtics really is just the worst case scenario.
  9. I don't know. You'd be gaining homers, but that's a ton of strikeouts you'd be taking on. And I'm not convinced Jackson won't struggle at some point. I'm not sure I'd do that.
  10. The Cubs are mediocre because Lee and Ramirez haven't hit at all, and the bullpen outside of Marshall and Marmol is flat out abysmal. Lou's lunacy has only added insult to injury.
  11. Yeah, the season could still be saved, but it would take a lot of action, and really quickly. If ARam and Lee started hitting at all, it would help a lot. But we aren't going anywhere with this pen, and Lou's management of it and the lineup is really hurting (though it's nearly a moot point with Lee and Ramirez sucking this badly). I'm usually one of the last to give up on a season, but I'm not seeing a lot of hope here. And that's a shame, because a lot of the variables (Byrd, Soto, Fuku and even Sori) have looked really good. If Lee and Ramirez hadn't vanished, things might look a lot different right now.
  12. Lou needs to be let go,and I would be ecstatic if he were fired tomorrow, but that's simply not going to happen. What really concerns (like many others) is that Hendry is going to do something stupid to try and salvage the season (and his ass).
  13. I love Wrigley, but if people want to play hardball, the Ricketts' should play hardball. The ballpark shouldn't become bigger than the team, or become an impediment to generating revenue. The whole idea that this sign would disrupt the aesthetic of the neighborhood is laughable. I appreciate the sentiment behind wanting to keep Wrigley ad-free, but given the limitations of the park and the financial landscape of the game, it just doesn't seem practical to me. People need to remember that Wrigley is a Cubs asset, not a neighborhood asset that they're entitled to milk.
  14. I've rarely seen a player successfully steal so many times when the throw beats them.
  15. I don't think that's accurate (Wainwright more Atkins than Cashner). Actually, I think you could make a case that Wainwright was thought of, at the same stage, as a equal, if not better, prospect than Cashner, but they are fairly close. Wainwright was a well-though of arm in the Braves system with a plus fastball that got to the mid-90's. He also had a good curveball, a potential plus pitch coming up that was inconsistent, and in AA, he had a solid changeup. The control slipped a bit when he went to the Cardinals, but I don't recall if there was a specific issue. He was the Braves top prospect in 2003, the Cardinals number 2 prospect in 2004. He was well regarded when he came over from Atlanta, but then he had 2 full seasons of mediocre performance before making the Cardinal pen in 2006. He wasn't a case of breaking in a top prospect in order to get him MLB time, he had fallen off the radar and they were trying to get some use out of him. I even recall reading that Atlanta had soured a bit on him before they made the trade, and then he didn't really perform all that well after. It certainly turned out well for the Cards, but I don't think too many people were thinking he would be a good, front line starter when he was called up to the pen.
  16. do we really see it that often in the first place? it happens, what, 3 times out of 4680 games per year? if that. I've seen it at least that many times already this year (or not seen it, but seen games delayed because of it), but that's beside the point. The force wasn't excessive, at least relative to what many people get tased for under "normal" circumstances.
  17. Cops have been using tasers on pretty much all sorts of non-compliant offenders for quite a while. If people can be tased for not getting out of their car during a traffic stop or resisting while drunk and disorderly, is it really that outrageous to be tased for busting on to the field to do god knows what? When you know you are being chased by cops? I have no problem with this. In fact, I hope they post signs warning you will be tased if you come onto the field, and it is enforced. I don't think you'd see much of it anymore.
  18. The kid was fleeing arrest. The cop was well within his legal rights to use it. Cops are supposed to use the minimum amount of force necessary to end a conflict. Who knows how long the kid would have ran. The cop used a tazer and ended the situation as quickly as possible with as little force possible. I applaud him. i'd like to see you get tazed and tell us all how that's "little force". It's not the most gentle thing, but I'm not feeling sorry for the guy. Keeping your dumb ass off the field really isn't that hard.
  19. Play the hot hands. I'd go Soriano/Markakis/Hamilton. This week, anyway.
  20. Which thread was it with all the Soriano photoshops from last year?
  21. Thank goodness. Regular WGN just looks like hell.
  22. aramis' K rate is nearly twice his career average... the BABIP is really low but that's hardly his only problem. Aramis has k'd twice in his last six games played. I think he's starting to see the ball better.
  23. What the hell if Lebron's endgame from this? Trying to get more young ballers to join his brand? Or is it he trying to become the NBA's biggest douche? He's already the NBA's biggest douche. He has surpassed early 2000's Kobe levels of douchedom. As for his endgame, it's gotta be all about the shoes. Not even close. Yeah, LeBron has light years to go to become half the douche Kobe is.
