  1. I don't agree with that. I think the loss all but guarantees the Pack will need to come to Dallas to get to the Super Bowl, and I think that's an impossible task for them. Sitting here in late November, it looks to me that the Packers' SB hopes were just dealt a pretty critical blow.
  2. Really? I thought they looked largely overmatched for most of the night.
  3. Because it's irrelevant to the here and now. I would care if a Cub tested positive now, because it would have a direct impact on the team, as well as proving that individual an idiot for taking something now that MLB has a testing program. But revealing who used in the past serves no purpose. Does it have to serve a purpose in the here & now in order to be something that's worthwhile knowing?
  4. Favre is the most popular player? Tom Brady anyone? Is Brady really that popular? I live near Indy so my perception may be tainted but it seems like he's largely disliked besides by Patriots fans and ESPN. No questioning Brady's talent on the field, but to me he comes off as smug and too "GQ" for my taste. I really don't like him all that much. Again though, obviously a great football player.
  5. The Bears and Packers both lost to the Cowboys by the same score. Cowboys are the prohibitive favorites in the NFC now. I think it likely that the probability of the Packers going to Dallas and winning in the playoffs is close to zero. I don't think Favre-era Packers have ever won in that stadium, and I don't see how they will now even if healthy.

    The NBA thread

The Knicks took care of the Bulls. I shudder to think what might happen when the Bulls play Boston.
  7. I mean if you don't know enough to throw the flag when the play is happening, then you don't throw a flag that essentially wins the game for one team. Period end of story. I really think they need to put review in for PI calls. I don't think that was PI. Or at least, it shouldn't be. It's just too ticky-tack, the feet got tangled, who cares if his hand briefly touched his biceps -- it's not a game of tiddly winks.
  8. Sheesh, if you're gonna name the names, then name the freaking names. Enough of this "get ready, here it comes!!" crap. Do it, or don't.
  9. Totally ridiculous to throw a 40-yard flag 15 seconds after the play is over. These refs are just horrible.
  10. Bah.
  11. Well well well. Redemption for Harris.
  12. Owens never had control of that one.
  13. That was crushing.
  14. So Harris gets flagged for throwing the ball down, then Romo does it and no flag? That's BS.
  15. I might have to revise my opinion of Rodgers. I know Dallas has gone away from their blitz packages (why?) but he looks much better than I've seen him in a regular season game before.
  16. Just wanted to rest them? In the most important game of the year? That's either untrue, or 100% proof McCarthy is [expletive]. Favre is now hurt, Rodgers is in and looking like the bust that he is. Packers have exactly 0 chance of coming here in the playoffs and winning. Their only chance is to get the Cowboys to come up into the cold, and that chance is going bye-bye real quick. That bust just threw the only packers TD (passing td) of the night. The Cowboys are geared to play Favre. Good for Rodgers, but I've seen plenty of bad QBs toss a TD pass or two. Oh i know, I was just saying. This game isn't looking good at all. Especially if Favre is gone for the night. I am sort of rooting for the Pack. I get sick of the NFC North being kicked around. And I hate the Cowboys. .....damn Pack can't even cover the kickoff.
  17. To hell with you! I was enjoying the dream, thanks pal! 8-)
  18. And Chris Collinsworth is openly rooting for Dallas, to the point where you think he's about ready to orally pleasure Tony Romo. It's been hard to root for the Packers with Favre playing like an idiot, giving the ball back to the Cowboys every possession.

  21. At the moment I'd say no. He has too many accuracy issues. He's turning into a heck of a spread college QB though. There's nothing wrong with that.
  22. Hawks are really starting to turn some heads now. It took Havlat what? All of 30 seconds to score his first goal? Too bad I couldn't get the game. I caught some of the live look-ins on the NHL Network though. Keep up the good work plz.
  23. You DO know what his previous position with the Cubs was right? Yeah, I must say, the first thing McDonough did when he took over was start winning more games than the Cubs had previously. I think he's shown he has enough good sense to apply what leadership needs to be applied at his level in the organization to put it on a better track. He might not know the intimate details of the game, but nobody's expecting him to strap up and start giving Havlat pointers. ...and there IS a whole bunch of PR work that needs to be done with this club and its fans. The damage done by Wirtz was deep, fans wrote this team off and backed it up by staying away. Yeah, McDonough had nothing to do with Cubs winning. He'll have nothing to do with the Hawks winning. The Cubs don't need a good marketing man, they haven't needed one since at least 2003, and probably 1998. The Hawks are in need of PR, hype, marketing, etc. They need more than 11,000 people seeing games. I guess what I'm saying is I don't think there's some kind of impediment because McDonough isn't a "sports man."

  25. But that sounds like good news for the Packers =D> Clue me in then. Under Murphy, Northwestern's big sports (Football and Basketball) have languished. They still aren't competitive in the Big 10 really at all, and there doesn't seem to be much of chance that they will be. So what makes him a good choice to run the Packers? He's only been at Northwestern for about 4.5 years, but he may be one of the best we've had. Plenty of credit should go to our president for his commitment to sports, but Murphy made great strides in the non-revenue sports. The 3 straight championships of the women's lacrosse team nearly didn't happen. After the 2nd one, I believe, head coach Amonte Hiller was very close to moving back east to Maryland to coach at her alma mater. Instead, Murphy was able to get her to stay when it looked like all hope was lost and signed her to a nice contract. He followed that up by spearheading the reconstruction of the lakeside field for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey (it's beautiful, by the way), which has coincided with the re-birth of the men's soccer program. He did a similar job with the women's softball team, making sure the coaching staff stayed put and invested money to renovate the softball field after their back-to-back WCWS appearances. In regards to football, he made a very tough but ultimately correct choice for the long term in naming Fitz as Walker's replacement. The two major criticisms of what has gone on over the past few years is the retention of two of the long-time assitant coaches, but that may change this winter, and the home football attendance. The attendance problem is much greater a challenge than one man can face. The basketball team isn't doing well, but recruiting efforts have certainly improved under his watch and he helped put in money into rebuilding the Welsh-Ryan Arena locker rooms, which was long overdue. I don't know exactly how those skills are going to translate into his potential role of CEO of the Packers since I can't really say what his day-to-day duties would be. However, he has a wide range of experiences as outlined in that article, including a significant background in law and negotiation with the NLFPA. He certainly isn't the most experienced candidate in the job search, which included Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, but he's a very smart guy. Thanks for the rundown. No offense to him, but I hope he sucks
