  2. It wasn't a hit-and-run. It was 3-2. Bradley's decision to swing were not based on whether or not the runners were going. Yeah, but you have it in the back of your mind that if you don't swing and it's a called K than its a DP. If it's a liner, it's a triple play. Oh, that post-game press conference would be fun.
  3. Milton's probably got a little justify-the-new-deal-itis Just relax and hit.
  4. lordy, hits it right where the 2b is moving to cover 2nd.
  5. Burress' hearing isn't until June 15th, correct? I don't see how Goodell would be able to pre-judge a suspension when the legal ramifications aren't worked out yet.
  6. You can get a blown save if you come into a bases loaded no out situation and get three straight outs. It's a measure, but it's not all that good. Sometimes good relief pitchers blow a fair chunk of saves. Brad Lidge blew a bunch one year and was a great closer the very next year on a world series champ, with very similar numbers each season. That said, Gregg isn't very good. He's probably going to piss off Cubs fans a lot this year. So he was a better closer in his good year, because he got the saves regardless of the situation -- even though the numbers were similar.
  7. They're my favorite solo shots. *BOOM* 1-0
  8. Fuku sucks, and we're paying him tons, and so we just have to sit here and watch him suck. And that is really going to, you know.......suck.
  9. He wasn't worth the pick, but it's hard to define his career as a bust. He's still around and was productive last season. This isn't Curtis Enis. He's already surpassed both those guys as a player. The problem was taking the 3rd RB in the draft at the #4 spot, and thinking a guy who was not going to be spectacular, but if everything works out well, a steady presence, so high. Benson was like the Orton of running backs. He put up some solid college numbers, but was never spectular. He could be a solid pro running back, but nobody you want to throw millions at. Good point.
  10. Sounds like Angelo is picturing Ced Benson when he's saying that. I think Ced really burned Angelo. I would have loved to have seen Jerry's reaction to Benson crying when he was drafted. I was not happy about that one. It wasn't a "oh I'm so happy to have this dream fulfilled cry", it was a confused, pissed off cry. There were many people who saw the Benson bust coming, based on his lack of burst, his lack of pass blocking ability, his lack of character displayed in college. Yet Jerry still made the pick. Benson was a solid college player but the questions whether he would be able to translate at the next level were glaring, and substantial... I'm still upset with that pick. Saw the bust coming a mile away. I was so mad that day.
  11. Even Adam Wainwright is a bit of a questionmark. Yes when he's been on the mound he's been very good. But when you look back the last 4 years. He's really only been a healthy starting pitcher in 2007. Last year he missed time, in 06 he was a reliever, and had health issues in the minors as well. You can pick about any team and a bunch of question marks. But in all honestly the Cubs probably have the least amount of question marks in the NL Central. Thats why there heavily favored to win the division, even with some younger players having a bigger role and a few injury risk guys on the team. I can go with that. I'm just not counting any chickens, that's all.
  12. This post is all kinds of awesomeness. I lol'd.
  13. After reading that, I find my self bewildered, confused........and a little disturbed. What's his actual argument again? :-s
  14. It still doesn't change the equation much, but I see your point.
  15. do you REALLY think the cardinals are anywhere near as good as the Cubs? Really??? I think the baseball season is a long & winding road. I think it's April. And I think the hubris about the Cubs is fun & cool, but given the two other factors above doesn't really mean anything. The Cubs are the best team in the NL Central. That doesn't mean they are guaranteed to perform the best. Nor does that mean that the team that may wind up outperforming them is better. People should be able to separate these ideas. Flukes can even happen even in 162 game seasons. Nobody saying that the Cubs are the best team in the division is denying that. The argument isn't that there's no way that the Cubs won't win the division in 2009. It's that the Cubs have far and away the best team in the NL Central in 2009. I think some people are going further than that, but I'm not going to argue about it with you.

  17. No, I think he's right about Olsen. Look at it this way - what if Olsen blows his knee out tomorrow and loses his speed, can't be what he was going to be? He goes down as a guy who had some moments, but ultimately failed. In terms of the Bears, why would you keep Colombo & Harris where they are? They washed out of Chicago, ultimately. Well -- maybe not Harris. It took him a good long while to be productive though. I agree on Thierry and Haynes. What moments did Haynes even have? I think I remember one good pick 6 from him.
  18. Here's the heart of the King article for me: Also note, while Walt Harris and Marc Colombo did indeed become NFL starters, they wound up being starters for other teams, either entirely (Colombo), or partially (Harris). They should probably be put into the next lower category in terms of Bears success. Colombo for sure. This was a no brainer. In all likelihood, we just traded Cedric Benson and David Terrell for a pro bowl, 4,000+ yard QB. Or Grossman and Haynes. You can argue the potential of 1st round picks all you like, but the reality is, in terms of the Chicago Bears, they were likely not going to provide anywhere near the value of a solid QB.
  19. I'll probably be all Cubbed out from April 11th and 12th :) But seriously, I need to work all day but I have gameday on the work computer, and gameday on the iphone. I'll be covered.
  20. Unfortunately, I did not. Perhaps Olney will write it up into a web article later today.
  21. About Harden being hurt or the Cubs having enough to win the NL Central without Harden? Winning the Central without Harden. Actually, winning anything before the first pitch is even thrown. All he said is that the cubs have enough to win the central without harden, he didn't say that they would. Well then what he said was meaningless. The Cards have enough to win the Central too, provided things go their way.
