  1. Wait a few weeks. Yeah, never underestimate the Cubbie game threads. Best swirl of emotion in sports. Read the last two pages in this thread. For a hockey thread, it's pretty close to a May Cubs game. People are already jumping off the ship and writing the team off in the playoffs because they blew a three goal lead against a team with insane firepower that the Sharks have. Oh yeah, we still ended up winning the game too. :) True. I thought Cyno might have blown a gasket there for a bit. I love the emotion of sports though, I think it's great. Can't understand why others hate it so much. But that's just me.
  2. He's always been regarded as one of the best pure prospects in the country, even coming out of high school. He's highly athletic, a true speed threat and always has been. The biggest knock I've heard against Harvin is that he's too much like Hester. I'd prefer a more physical compliment to Hester too, but it would definitely strain defenses more to have to worry about both Hester and Harvin. We'd have two true deep threats. Harvin would immediately mean the Bears become an offense that can stretch the field, without any question. I think we could do worse. He might not even fall to us. biggest dif between Harvin and Hester is this: HArvin has always been a WR, Hester has been everything .... and then a WR Harvin is much more polished, besides we have 2 TE's who can be physical downfield We do. Anyway, I also like the idea of holding off until the 2nd round to pick up a value WR, and using the 1st round for a pseudo-BPA type pick. If there's a fantastic player available who happened to fall to us, I wouldn't want to pigeonhole ourselves into a single position.

  4. I don't see it like that, but what do I know? Harvin's a pretty explosive playmaker -- are you saying you'd be horrified with that pick? It depends on who else was available, but I don't think I'd be throwing stuff at the TV or anything.

  6. Hahahahaaaahhhh. After all that, a win. That was a damn fine entertaining hockey game.
  7. Oh wow. That really should have been 5-4.
  8. Yeah, Roenick's quest to enter the nightmares of all Blackhawk fans continues.
  9. Laddy again!! Hold that lead!
  10. The Tait signing was supposed to be them signing a franchise tackle. They overpaid him in order to force KC not to sign the offer sheet. This seems much more stopgap to me. No chance Shaffer's actually good? I wouldn't say that. I'm just saying the Tait signing was much more of an aggressive franchise affecting move, while this guy is some sort of combo fallback/stopgap player. Plus, he's not young, he won't be around for very long. Yeah, I have to agree. Here's to praying Williams is actually good. I'd hate to be stuck with a bust LT and a stopgap RT at the same time. If Williams pans out, we're probably OK for the time being.

  12. I can't see Angelo ignoring defense on day 1 for a second straight season. Which might very well be part of his reasoning for addressing RT before the draft.
  13. If we go WR in the first, I'm convinced a playmaker will be available @ 18. I know some have criticized the WR class, but I think there's good players there. Personally I don't like the idea of drafting WRs as your "franchise" guy (see: Lions), 18th in the first round seems about right to nab one. We'll see if teams around the league agree with that. I could even see Maclin falling to us. If not, then Angelo could always bolster the Dline with a pick. I still think we need a better speed rusher. Believe it or not, I'm also thinking it might be time to invest in LB again.
  14. So we're swapping T's with the Browns. I wonder why Shaffer's performance declined last year. He's still young enough to have something left in the tank.
  15. Yeah, that's the game I immediately thought of too.
  16. I am thoroughly confused. It sounds almost exactly like what one of those analysts on BBTN or SC would say though.
  17. When I think of Hester's routes the first thing I think of are all those short slants they throw him all the time. Which should also remind you of Justin Gage. I think more of Hester's deep routes, as his quick slants haven't seemed to work all that much. He's scored some nice TDs on deep balls.
  18. The problem is he can't be decent defensively anywhere. He just can't. Just ain't got it in him. Sometimes people take defense for granted. But some of these guys really struggle with the glove.
  19. Does anyone know if there's anything to the character concerns that have been raised about Britt? He ran a 4.4 at his pro day, and he's got size. Physically he looks very gifted as a receiver who can do more than just try to run deep routes down the sideline. We've already got Hester for that, so in terms of skillset, Britt looks like a nice fit.
  20. Bear football philosophy has been unplayable for 20 years. Maybe these rule changes will force them to adapt. During the last 5 years, don't the Bears have the third or fourth-best winning percentage only behind NE, Indy, and the Giants? Playoffs or regular season? I would presume he's attempting to equate regular season success to overall success, since all those other teams have won the Super Bowl.
  21. Here's Vaughn McClure's story that Seifert linked to. The Bears have really pigeon holed themselves in the draft. They don't have enough OL or WR to even field a complete team. If they don't sign a FA out of the blue, then they have to draft both positions pretty early. This is exactly how you end up reaching for players and screwing up a draft. That being said, I really like Britt. Rather him or Robiske or Nicks more than the more flashy guys like Maclin, DHB, or Harvin. I don't know much about Britt. I guess I'll have to try to educate myself a bit if the Bears are showing interest. I'd love Maclin though. I'm still not sure Robiske will translate.
  22. Bear football philosophy has been unplayable for 20 years. Maybe these rule changes will force them to adapt. Hasn't worked so far, why would this newest set suddenly do the trick?
  23. They should call each year's batch of new rules by their true name: the next step in making Bear football philosophy unplayable. They aren't the offseason meetings. They're the "destroy Bear football inch by inch" meetings
  24. Yeah. Make sure you bring your geometric calculator to practice, young man. We're going to discuss attack angles and spacing theory to avoid kickoff penalties.
