  1. You can't seriously believe that. I seriously can't see how you wouldn't. The Blackhawks have been outplayed, the entire team. It's not like Osgood has saved Detroit. I'm not arguing that, but look at the saves Osgood has made vs. the softies Huet lets through.
  2. I don't think it's overrated at all. I agree with Soul 100%. We hear about how it's the determining factor, yet for the 2nd straight year you are going to see Osgood and Fleury in the finals. The super star goalies did nothing impressive. No goalie led his team to the conference finals, let alone finals. The depth of the team is what matters. Having multiple quality defense and multiple lines that can score is what matters. Having a great goalie is nice, but it's not a must. You need a competent goalie and a deep team. Yeah but I can't get to a place where I see Huet as anywhere near an Osgood. Why? Huet is not a bad goalie, there is just nothing to support that. He's not a franchise guy, he's not great by any means, and his contract is disappointing. But I don't see how he is any worse than a guy like Osgood. Switch the two and I bet Detroit is still up 3-1. You can't seriously believe that.

  4. I hope so, Blanco is total ass. Story? I don't know too much, but when I saw him @ Iowa last year he seemed like more of a defensive player to me. But that was admittedly just 4 games, so I probably shouldn't even comment.
  5. At this point I find myself dreading next year with Huet more than what might happen tonight. We locked this guy up for too long, too much money. He might kill what would otherwise be prime years for our star players. I don't look too kindly upon burning up possible Stanley Cup years on a bad goalie who should never have been signed. The value of goaltending is vastly overrated. People claim goalies are the difference in the playoffs but the fact is the best teams, without the best goaltenders, have had the most success. Huet isn't bad. His contract is disappointing, but he's not going to piss away whatever chance this team might have in the future. Ideally one of the young guys will come up and challenge Huet next year, and perhaps by the following season be in position to take over. And then going forward they can move away from spending so much money on established goaltenders. I don't see how you can say he isn't bad. Look at him.
  6. He's done being THE GUY back there but I think most believe he's got something left if used a little more sparingly. If they are talking about QB plus RB, SD certainly has an argument with Rivers and Sproles contributing to the equation. I think the key to them still being at the top is Sproles. It's likely he can pick up most or all of any slack left by LT being older and a bit slower.
  7. I was wondering the same thing. Isn't LT slowing down now? I guess we'll see.

  9. None. Certainly Trammell could give advice, but he can't overrule his boss. Lou might be vetoing something Trammel does, but not the other way around.
  10. Surely Cotts will be gone soon. I'm sure Lou means he's gone.
  11. A rainout might not be the worst thing in the world right now... Steve Stone in the nude: that's just wrong.
  12. Better than they are now without him.
  13. I don't see a big trade happening. The Cubs have been reluctant to take on new payroll with ownership still in flux. We have little in the minors to offer, and trading one of the few pieces we do have seems shortsighted. It's time for some of the players we already have to simply start playing better.
  14. Dodgers: Before Manny Rays: We knew they were a good team during the streak. This Cubs team has not been impressive at all. To be honest, I dont remember them being impressive, but the fact that after a 7 game losing streak, and theyre still at .500 suggests they have been. They had Aramis Ramirez when they were impressive. Now they don't. That's the key difference here. I'm not sure what ARam's projected status is, but I've got to believe his return is still in question (in terms of timelines and effectiveness when he does return). Yes, one player means that much to us, right here & right now, IMO.
  15. during the regular season he didn't suck. he sucked today hard and i kind of figured he would if he started. he failed just as badly when he faced the wings at wrigley Many times he did suck though. He had a real nice streak for awhile, but it wasn't sustained. Huet's a horrible signing. Too bad, because there have been so many other really good personnel moves lately.
  16. Hendry's offseason was abysmal, but I just wonder if he was told "no new payroll" and just didn't handle the zero sum game well. Which -- you can make a case that it's his job to handle changing financial conditions, so that can't be an excuse. I'm just going to wait until I see what happens tomorrow, back @ home. If we don't see some life from this club against a decidedly bad club while @ home, then maybe this is a case where the slump is becoming a mentality that we may not recover from all season.
  17. It's gotten so bad that this game is actually better to watch than the [expletive] Cubs. At least I'm watching the (near) end of a damn good run.
  18. Memorial day '09 feels like I'm already dead with all our fallen heroes. Thanks for the holiday, you bozos.
  19. =D> =D> :-)) Sure, why not?!? Let's see all the bush league crap we do now.
  20. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHHHHHAHAHHH!! Oooh, God, that was exactly what was going to happen, the whole time.
  21. Of course. It's Cub suckage time. Everything is going to go wrong.
  22. Well, obviously 1 run will win it for them, so this is the game right here.
  23. Which game thread is worse? Well, here we're talking about how the Wings take dives, and over there we're talking about how the Cubs are going to get booed when they come home tomorrow. Either way, this is sports hell. England beat the crap out of West Indies this morning, and I was able to get up early and watch it. It helps to throw a really wide net in sports fandom, so you always have somethign :) Haha, yeah. Maybe I'll turn the French Open on @ 4am and pick someone who is an easy winner :)
