There's been plenty of negative things said about Martz. Here's what Dick Vermeil had to say about him: "I can't think, in my history of coaching, of any assistant who came into an NFL franchise and made the immediate impact that Mike Martz did." As for Lovie and Martz not working well together, it might be correct, but I think Lovie is content to leave the offense alone. This wouldn't be like bringing in a caustic DC where Lovie would be clashing horns over what defenses to run. Lovie doesn't know offense. He would be essentially turning the offensive side of the ball over to Martz, just like he did with Ron Turner. And I think that's the way Martz would like to work. So I believe there's also potential for it working out fine. ...and I'm completely and totally convinced that Martz is a big upgrade over Turner.

Another great thing is how this team has rebounded from a couple pretty shaky losses to win again -- and on the road. They didn't have to return to the United Center to turn it around.

It would be nice for the Cubs to get a guy to come off serious injury and blossom, and not the Cards. Like Kerry Wood '08? Not really, no. Kerry Wood was ready to retire in '07 because I couldn't throw without pain, then magically it went away and he became an all star closer in '08. This Cub pixie dust isn't fair. I would have taken Carpenter's revival over Kerry's, since Kerry had to change roles to make it work. Sorry Kerry. -

They are still short a good starter, and have serious holes in the rotation and questionable lineup. I think they'll end up better than that, but the potential is clearly there for this team to tank. They are an older version of last year's disappointment with no significant improvements from acquisitions. I was thinking the season would be rough. But more like .500 rough, not 8 under rough.

Rose clearly belongs, but I think Hortford is the one who prolly shouldn't have gone. They should be there. Iverson is what screws it all up. Iverson is going? I just figured he would decline. It's comical for him to be there.

I totally agree. It's not like he wanted to go in as a Marlin or something. In this case, the Hall should have been fine with either the Expos or the Cubs. Exactly. The HoF should have overridden his choice if it was the Marlins, but not the Cubs. I thought that was the entire point of the new rule anyway. Not to pull a power play on a hall-of-famer in his hour of glory for no good reason. -
If he wants to be an Iowa Cub, that would be alright. But a Chicago Cub? I'd have an issue with that.

They don't have their guns loaded. Mainstream media people do not understand the rules of the NBA's salary cap, so no one should listen to what they say. Unless the Bulls make some miraculous and creative trades, they aren't remotely close to having room for two max free agents. If Salmons opts in for 2010, they may not even have room under the cap for one max guy. I didn't hear any of this on the radio, but as much as Bernstein irritates me, basketball acumen a strongpoint for him. I have a hard time believing he doesn't understand the NBA salary cap rules.

I think in this case the HoF should have gone with Dawson's wishes. His Chicago years were important enough to his career that it should have been essentially his choice. I know the Hall has the final say, but when you have a player that feels strongly for one team, and that team was actually important to the player's career, then I believe they should follow the wishes of the player. -

if what i heard is correct, the teams are making players leave at halftime and fly home to n.o./indy, so they can fly back to miami with their teams. if true, then the teams are just as stupid as the nfl. Makes one wonder if they really thought about this before they moved the game.
