  1. If the NFL institutes a stricter pay scale for rookie contracts, he's going to lose millions. Or, if he gets hurt...
  2. He's worth whatever someone will pay for him. I'll just say I wouldn't do it for that much money. If he makes it work then the Dolphins are geniuses I guess. Didn't they already try this recently and have it blow up in their faces?
  3. CFTalk saying the same thing. Wow.
  4. I'm losing faith, or is it just my patience? Probably both.
  5. If alumni and boosters are clamoring for a "Michigan man" there's a really good chance that's where they're looking. They piss off the boosters and alumni with the hire, they lose donations. I'm sure it's a consideration but a Michigan man who loses won't likely keep them happy for long. Whoever they hire will be declared a Michigan man pretty quick if he posts numbers in the W column. Everyone thinks they know what should be done. Everyone's an expert. It's important for the decision makers to cut through that and realize that everyone just wants to see a "W" column that is much larger than the "L" column. And that's really it.
  6. Something else to note about him is how valuable it can be to have your "good" years fall at the right time.
  7. I phrased it poorly. It's probably not the Cubs paying United's appearance fee, but likely SUM. When SUM contracts a Euro team to go on a tour, they agree to give the touring club a cut of the gate as well as other rights, etc. So the Cubs would just likely be renting out the field. They wouldn't likely see much of the gate. Not much of the merch either, and probably not concessions. So what's the incentive? I'm not sure what the actual numbers would look like. But -- beyond the immediate numbers of this event, there the value of successfully branding Wrigley as a venue that can potentially support multiple types of events (i.e. future profit). They've done a pretty good job of this already, but I can see some potential benefit to rolling that idea out to a wider array of possibilities, even if this one event doesn't net much profit.
  8. Or how Alomar spits in the face of people and that's OK, but Santo clicks his heels and a holy crusade is formed against him.
  9. I missed that too. It's certainly not a dumb idea for Ricketts to attempt to maximize all revenue streams.
  10. Of course, which is what they would have to do to make a game happen at Wrigley. There's so much space to work with. That's it. If a game were to happen at Wrigley, obviously it would require someone to waive guidelines, make adjustments, etc.
  11. Exactly. [expletive] every stupid Michigan fan who keeps spouting off about the next coach needing to be a Michigan Man. It's the reason why the fan base was divided the moment Rich Rod stepped on campus 3 years ago. Are most of these Michigan Man blowhards townies, or is the alumni caught up in this obsession as well? I hear it everywhere on this side of the state, from alumni, wal-mart wolverines, and everyone else. Everyone's got the answer. If only someone would listen :)
  12. Haha. In other words, please for the love of God Seattle -- LOSE.
  13. Bah humbug.
  14. I presume since it would be an exhibition the dimensions of the field would be variable, and it wouldn't be a big deal. Also - the Chicago Sting used to play their home games @ Wrigley. So this wouldn't be the first soccer played there.
  15. Yeah, that was just ugly looking. That'll likely do it.
  16. It's the new year and we still suck. Now I'm starting to believe we're missing the playoffs. I expected a dropoff but not this much.
  17. Poor Russ. Seems he's never really wanted other than as an OLine coach.
  18. Why? Because it's freaking annoying. What's the point of it? Unity! Togetherness! Camaraderie!
  19. Hehe, yeah. Seems like the obvious move for him, too.
  20. The only part of the trade I dislike is giving up Lee. I understand his trade value is at its highest now, but if the peak of his trade value is one of four top 20 pieces for Garza, I'd rather keep him and see what he becomes, I think. It's tough for me. Garza's only 26, he'd be switching to the easier league for pitchers... He might have room to improve as well.
  21. Not with the possibility of a new, more restrictive rookie pay schedule looming. He's coming out.
  22. I thought he was only a junior. He's a 1st rounder He had a ton of drops and needed to force the issue on that final drive, but yeah -- is he going to be a stud, or the 2nd coming of Ryan Leaf? I can't tell.
  23. When dew posted the following: My first thought was that Cable would be fired quickly and Jackson named coach. And guess what? That's exactly what happened. A little strange that they gave Hue permission to talk with the 49ers then :-k
  24. I don't see that division suddenly getting easier either. They're basically going to need to improve big time, or get slaughtered again.
  25. This has to be a joke. No possible way in all hell.
