  1. It's called negotiation. You don't just walk in and offer Boston what they want. Start out offering just cash. Very smart.
  2. Peppers probably shouldn't even see the field on Sunday. I'd be tempted to let him rest his knee until after the bye week. Last thing we need is his injury getting more serious. I don't think we can afford to lose Sunday, though.
  3. Time to be positive Bear fans. Cubs just got Theo. Karma is shifting our way!! We're going to beat the Vikings handily Sunday night. Peppers finds his groove, Urlacher another INT. Tillman will cause a timely fumble or two. Happiness!
  4. This really helps me respect Ricketts as a shrewd businessman. I would have expected in the past that opportunities like this would simply be ignored. It seems Ricketts understood the situation and how he could use it his advantage, and then actually did so. My faith in Tom is now growing. Again, as important as the progressive nature of Theo's philosophy is Ricketts' recognition of the importance of consistency and continuity. I openly bristled at the "I don't need baseball men overseeing my baseball men" comment, but now I'm looking at it in a completely different light. Giving Theo full authority over baseball operations is going to have a lot more import than simply bringing in a sharp mind. It makes total sense now. Ricketts is going with the guy who showed he could come in an overhaul an old-school operation in a high-profile city. What I didn't recognize until very recently was that Theo, at a certain point, really couldn't back out. The factors were in place to push him to the next step in his career. I *think* Ricketts knew this earlier on. I'm not sure of it, of course, but the results are certainly fantastic and I'm inclined to think that something like this is no accident.
  5. Theo: "How do you live with a player who has only 20 HR and 70RBI when he was signed to be a 30/100 guy? It has to be disappointing, right?" It's weird that you seem to understand stuff like this and still think Sandberg would be a good manager. I was going to go further but I don't want to start an off topic argument. Yeah, I consider it to be a long shot that Sandberg would actually be Theo's first manager. At this early date, comments or off-hand remarks are more likely just wanting to be nice and keep options open. I fully expect him to choose someone in keeping with his philosophy, and frankly Ryno -- while I love the guy -- doesn't fit the MO. This is the Earth shifting under our feet. Not grasping at figures from our past.

  7. Kaplan vs. Theo, the interview. Hah, that's going to be hilarious.
  8. Ugh. Cards just took a big step towards the World Series. I'm just going to ignore that this game happened and bask in Theo glory tonight.
  9. Jesus [expletive] Christ. ... I'm going to give this man so many babies. Dude. The leap forward is orders of magnitude from where we've been. I think most Cub fans won't even understand what the hell is going on. This is unbelievable. If Bernstein is right and the Cub fanbase aren't really responding, then I'd say there's a freight train about to smack them squarely in the skull.....they've got no idea how things are about to change around here. Frakking awesome!
  10. I don't think Sandberg will actually wind up being manager. Other than that, we're basically freaking out getting wasted and loving it.
  11. Isn't Monday the off day before the World Series? If so, that will probably be the press conference day, with an announcement coming sometime Thursday afternoon or Friday. Maybe, but I think the presser is more a formality at this point for us faithful Cub fans. Any stealing of the spotlight from the playoffs already happened, for better or worse.
  12. Hendry survives too long. This should be a simple beheading. Your makeshift head vids are fun though :)
  13. That'll do. Friday press conference, have a happy weekend. I'm drunk with Theo-ism.
  14. There's one. No outs.
  15. I'm ready for that moment, with the microphone and podium and all the Cubs logos in the background. Theo beginning his reign of terror on the rest of the NL Central.
  16. I was kind of hoping for some good baseball on a Wednesday night. Guess not. Thanks for not showing up, Brew Crew :(
  17. Gallardo looks so horrible.
  18. This is such a great day. Nothing can ruin it!
  19. Someone call him and wake him up. NO TIME TO SLEEP, get this done now!
  20. Seems like a pretty positive article, from our perspective. He obviously did meet with Ricketts.....it's just that Tom is in stealth mode, not even responding to requests for comment. And neither is Theo. I still think this happens. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.
  21. Which means basically the details are being worked out. Not "deal done," but nobody can deny it's serious and well-involved. In other words, Theo can not now go back to Boston and claim he wasn't considering leaving.
  22. Lower left quadrant. I think the lower right is still better. But mostly Theo makes it work in my world.
  23. Haha, LOL @ HM's photos. Yeah. Would be a bit of nice upgrade, you think?? :)
  24. My feeling is that the Vikings will remain a threat even though they won't make the playoffs. They'll likely find some kind of pseudo-rhythm; it won't be enough to challenge for the post season, but a few teams will be surprised when they expected to win and wind up getting beat (probably because APete goes off on them). Hopefully it isn't us who feels that pain.
