  1. Yeah, Stanford not looking like a real good team. Man, this college season seems like it's devoid of a great team. I guess LSU, but they just don't get me very excited.
  2. Not that surprising. Organization & focus not likely to be key traits.
  3. To me, it's confirmation that the rabble exists at Penn State. But not much more. Mouth breathers are prevalent, as they have always been. Unfortunate, but such is our world.
  4. Supposedly, either the Rays denied permission or it wasn't asked. Presumably the only reason the Rays would deny permission would be if Martinez is next in line for their managerial job... so maybe they are planning to let Maddon go after the season and let Martinez take over. This season? As in, right now? Or keep him for another year then let him go? Because if it's the latter, then that's a pretty strange plan to know you're going into a season with someone who you don't want. If it's the former -- the season's long over, time to get cracking on doing whatever they're going to do. I meant after the season when Maddon's contract runs out. Otherwise it would really be a jerk move for them to deny Martinez the chance to interview for a manager job and I don't believe they would do it (especially after Maddon himself stated that he believes Martinez is ready to be a manager). I doubt that is what happened, which makes me wonder what is really going on. Maybe this is all part of Epstein's master plan to let the process play out, then swoop in and grab Martinez after all his other interviews have been conducted. I'm wondering now, too. Unless Theo & crew changed their minds? Otherwise how is this not a jerk move by the Rays, denying a guy a fantastic career opportunity for advancement?
  5. I'm not thrilled with Hester being out, but Knox gets up the field pretty good. Give him a seam and he'll put in a good return. Our offense can score a little this year. It's not like we need TDs on returns or else there's no chance of a TD.
  6. I don't know if I can. Are there really any other major universities that have the kind of isolation that PSU does? What do you mean? PSU isn't close to the only university sitting well away from civilization. Well, that's part of it, but I was more referring to their tendency to not bring in outsiders. From what I've read, most everybody on campus has some sort of ties to the school, from sports personnel to professors. It just sounds like in general there's really a lot of groupthink being fostered because there's not any (or very little) outside influence in any part of the institution. I could easily see schools like Iowa, Wisconsin, a lot SEC schools, West Virginia, any school where football is king, acting in a similar manner. Me too. I see what you're saying mul, but I think this type of reaction would happen elsewhere too. Though I admit it's pretty tough to gage because (hopefully) this is a pretty rare event.

  8. I don't know. I could see a similar thing happening on many campuses, given the same circumstances.

Presumably the only reason the Rays would deny permission would be if Martinez is next in line for their managerial job... so maybe they are planning to let Maddon go after the season and let Martinez take over. Or if Martinez has told them he's not interested in a managerial position right now. Stay a bench coach then, and not even interview for one of the greatest managerial opportunities in memory? To each his own I guess, but I think that would be pretty insane. At least come in for the interview.

  11. Illinois just has nothing. They're like a big empty shell.
  12. I don't know much about Alomar as a coach, but his comments made me think he really doesn't like statistics all that much.
  13. It actually kinda sucks if Hester can't go. I thought he was turning the corner as a WR until Monday night when he didn't do crap. But still, I'd rather have him on field over Sam Hurd and Dane Sanzendropper. I watched a brief Lovie interview this morning, and it sounded like Hester's not going to go.
  14. On one of the most motherfuckingly ridiculous [expletive] bailout throws ever.
  15. The picks haven't been the greatest, but damn. He's had some horrible luck as well.
  16. I dunno....maybe fire Turner at some point?
  17. heh. yeah, chargers suck. what is probably most frustrating if you are a chargers fan, is seeing years come off Rivers' prime, with no results.
  18. I'm curious. Why? Is it because the broadcasts are usually marginal at best? Or just not in the mood on Thursday to start watching football? I usually have it on in the background, but Thursday nights I'm doing other things. I don't hate it, but unless it's a team I care about it's probably not going to receive my full attention.
  19. This might be the year to bring back Santa.
  20. Oh, for a win in this game. That would be [expletive] fantastic
  21. *hopes for NFL replay showing*
  22. If that kind of outrageous spread happens again dammit, I'm going to lay money. I really should have. Completely stupid line.
  23. Makes me sad I had to miss this one :(
  24. Oh, Mr. tempt fate.
