  1. Yeah, but the whole thing sets up kind of a sucky situation for Browns fans, who will now watch every Colts win in dismay. Every Colts win with a big play by Richardson will likely have some snarky headline attached to it in the Cleveland papers, with their own team's latest debacle buried on page 2. It's just incredibly horrifying to be a Browns fan, and I don't blame them for being upset.
  2. Trying to get a decent prediction on this one, and I'm coming up defense. I do think the Bears D should be able to do enough to shut down the Steelers, even at home, given all the problems they've had in the first 2 weeks. Maybe they won't put Big Ben on the turf, maybe they will, but I think containment is more realistic and it should be enough given their terrible run game. But I also think the same will generally hold true with PIT's defense. They've been the better half of the Steelers so far, and given this is the first road game of the year for Trestman's new scheme, there should be enough there to keep the Bears scoring down as well. I'm going to go Bears 20, Steelers 17. Another close one, nail-biter, largely defense-dominated game. I'll try to keep my usual game-thread negativity to a dull roar :)
  3. Because spending money on a competent manager would be madness. If competency is the standard we judge on, then I think Sveum qualifies. I think we might be a year early on the real debate over Sveum's time here, but I also don't see anything in particular that would be hard to replace. He'll probably be measured against Rizzo and Castro's career path and just given the axe if they don't pan out.
  4. Common sense revocation process. We are applying common sense, and revoking your award.
  5. why is an engineer from prometheus on the cowboys logo? Those all look like they belong on an AFL team. Terrible. The Bengals one looks like some kind of weird tiger embryo. The Chicago Bear got braces. The Packers new logo looks like it was designed for a small regional state college. Freaking terrible.
  6. As with all preseason activities in any sport, just don't tell me someone important was injured.
  7. No, he says the Steelers will win because the desperation factor will propel their badness into goodness. That's some solid football prognostication, right there.
  8. That's basically giving Sveum a license to suck with no consequence. After all, no matter what he does, you can't really judge because the team isn't a contender yet. To me, the problem with this theory is that you might never become a contender, and part of that might be due to Sveum not getting the most out of the players he has been put in charge of developing into real difference makers in the major leagues. To me, Dale was brought here to get something out of what has been given to him. If he doesn't produce measurable progress on that front, he's got to be gone.
  9. If ever there was a game for the Bears D Line to get healthy, this is it. Steelers can't run, have trouble protecting, the whole thing. Bears need to show up on the road and pin Roethlisberger to the turf.
  10. I know people want to be cute, and get on TV & stuff. But man, it is damn creepy to see some guy at a football game in full-out Thing garb, realizing he probably left home with that on, and walked through the parking lot, the whole bit. Halloween is a month and a half away.
  11. 2002 was "that year" and everyone should refrain from discussing it further. It has no bearing on this season.
  12. Looks like those Miami fans in Orlando are going to get whitewashed again. Enjoy your obligatory Jags coverage. Mwhahahah.
  13. Whenever someone makes the "most rings = best QB" argument, I ask them if they think guys like Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson were better than guys like Dan Marino, Jim Kelly or Warren Moon. I usually get a "they were better when it counted" or "they were more clutch" or some sort of hot garbage like that. It's total meatball logic. In no way, shape or form is Eli Manning even comparable to his brother in terms of quality of play over their careers. I fear that your head hurts alot, because NFL coverage is rife with these kinds of arguments.
  14. I know, it was pathetic.
  15. The only positive I get from having the Bears on late is being able to fully utilize the Sunday Ticket machine, which is definitely glorious. I prefer the noon starts though, just too much awesome having a Bear win out of the way and being able to enjoy the rest of my Sunday.
  16. ESPN link Jebus, their near-local network is happy that they don't sell out so they don't have to air their home games Just go ahead and move them to LA already so no one will show up to watch them there. No - then we'd be stuck with their games here. Everyone seems to want the NFL back in LA.......but nobody wants the Jags, anywhere.
  17. It seems to be more pronounced this year than last year. That's all I meant. And I hate to say it because I don't want to see it happen like this. I mean, I'm not seeing anything at all right now.
  18. So, next week the Jags travel to Seattle.
  19. From the files of the nit-picky: PIT is 0-1, UM. Possibly 0-2 by tomorrow night.
  20. I'm concerned about it because getting pressure from the DLine doesn't seem like something that typically develops over time. You've either got the strength/speed to impose your will on the line, or you don't. Not likely to shift very much. I think -- hate to say this -- Peppers is solidly a player in decline now.
  21. no kidding. pretty dumb thing to debate. Especially a division win, and double-especially a division win on the road. Tampa sucks, but 2-0, both divisional games, is a ginormous way to start the season. Understood. I just don't feel real good about a win like that when it's my team versus an obvious hot mess like Tampa, that's all. You're right, every win in the NFL...
  22. Man, 49ers just a big zero tonight. I know it's tough to win in Seattle, but this is different.
  23. Not nearly as many as have gotten drunk and fallen to their deaths, I'm sure They love safety, but not quite that much.
  24. Has anyone ever been struck by lightning at an NFL game before?
  25. What's going on? Lightning. Game delayed. I think there were 2 of these delays today.
