  1. I definitely agree with that. Because of the two infield situations we used most often (Walker at second/Mabry at first, or Neifi at second/Walker at first) Lee's at bats would essentially come at the expense of Neifi/Mabry. If replacing one of the worst hitters in the game with one of the best hitters in the game only results in 2-3 extra wins, then how is a bad team ever going to become good? I also agree. And I found it quite strange when Lee went down that so many people flocked to this idea that it wouldn't mean anything. I remember there was some kind of statistical analysis, but come on. At some point common sense must prevail. You don't just pull superstars off a team and say everything is the same. I'm sure someone can put together a stat sheet that shows the Cardinals would be just fine without Pujols, too. That said, Dusty's excuses have become boring. Even if they're correct, nobody wants to hear them anymore. He needs to leave town worse than any Cub manager I can remember, including Lee Elia. He honestly should've been let go at the break. All this stuff is just making him look worse. It's a shame...If he just kept his mouth shut for the last 3 months, he could've walked away with dignity and class. Probably true. Honestly, I can't remember feeling less interest in the Cubs than I do right now. I haven't even been paying attention to Dusty's antics, because it was obvious in May that June, July, August, and September were just going to be more of the same. Once the big losing streak came after Lee went down, and it became clear that Hendry would sit on his butt and do nothing ---- this season became a foregone conclusion.
  2. Not only that, but it sounds like they've been leaking stuff to the press trying to make Girardi look bad. The whole deal. Sort of sounds like a nasty situation down there. I like Girardi, but I agree the Cubs should do a full candidate search and not just hire Girardi because of his Chicago history.

  4. I rather suspect that given more time to mature and develop he'll do that. In fact, and I know you'll agree, he *should* have been given the time *this* season to do so, rather than be yo-yoed back and forth. At the expense of innings for Glendon earlier in the year? Are you insane  LOL. Ahh yes, it's late-season ultra sarcasm time on nsbb 8)
  5. Bonnie is seriously lacking tonight. I mean come on, when do we get the Pujols breakfast report? Where are the details on what CDs he has in his changer?
  6. Hah, pretty funny. I've tried, I can't get my eyes that wide open
  7. "But he's young!" Yeah, a young Neifi, WITHOUT the glove. Ouch. Can't teach someone to think, no matter how young he is. Why do we have school teachers then? Talking about wits........quick thinking.
  8. "But he's young!" Yeah, a young Neifi, WITHOUT the glove. Ouch. Also - can't teach a player to think, no matter how young he is. And Ronnie just doesn't seem to think on his feet real well, unfortunately.
  9. And let that be a lesson to all you kids out there. If you have a chance to be a 1st round QB, don't pass it up for some MLB dream that might never come true. Take the sport that will let you get paid, and get paid now. I hope Drew has had a chance to plan his life after sports. Coming out of college, I'll bet there wasn't a soul on the planet who would have said he would be out of professional sports in his 20's.
  10. Hahaha. Too funny.
  11. My faith in Cedeno is just about used up. Bench player / infield sub at best.

How bout show SOMETHING...I like Rex, but I'm leaning towards Grieseball at this point. I can't figure out why I like Rex either, he hasn't done anything....ever. I was completely opposed to the Grossman pick. But for some reason, I kind of like him now, even though he hasn't done much of anything. I think every Bears fan feels like this. I love Grossman even though he hasn't done anything. I don't know why. Matthews, Wuerrfel (sp?), Miller, McNown, Stewart, Orton, Chandler, etc. is why we love Grossman. Our list of QB's has been so dreadful that we will blindly cling to any hope that we have of good quarterbacking until they have demonstrated how horribly bad they are at the game. Its a tiny little ray of light, but its all we got. Plus I think a lot of people like Rex's gunslinger/big play attitude after years of check-down and then dump-off weak armed Sallies running the offense. We don't have the supporting cast. Fans can not realistically expect a QB to become a star in this town when there's nothing but junk on the receiving end. Not very logical. But---Grossman will still be blamed if he fails, as will Griese after him, and so on and so on forever. Meanwhile the WRs and TEs in this town continue to get a free pass. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

The two can fail together in Buffalo. Good riddance, Odom was just taking up space.

Those comments by King are completely stupid. He's just lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned. I expect hysterical fans to overreact to the preseason, but not a seasoned sportswriter. One wonders how the Colts made it to the playoffs last year after going 0-5 in the preseason
  15. Yes, I'm suprised. But I think I'm more suprised at the complete lack of good ballclubs in the NL. There's just no great baseball teams. At all. The Mets might be good, but certainly not great. I did come to the realization in March that the playoffs were not happening for us in '06. But I thought we would be .500 or somewhere in that neighborhood, not wallowing 20 games under.
  16. How is Murton going to get to a .380 OBP? He's short of .360 this year, and he has a slightly favorable platoon distribution(faced a higher % of LHP than if he played every day) and his BABIP is about 30 points higher than his LD% says it should, which means he doesn't really have much room for growth AVG wise. His minor league IsoD was a little higher, but his BABIP dropping 10 points is just as likely(probably moreso) as him improving those 10 in IsoD. I would think his obp would improve as he progresses a hitter and has a manager who embraces a walk instead of frowning upon it. I, too, am assuming Matt will make more improvements. Maybe that's a dangerously wrong assumption. I hope not.
  17. Right after Neifi signed his latest deal with Hendry, someone posted a picture of him from an article on the signing. The expression on his face just said it all. It was like: "Hey suckers laugh all you want. I'm making millions of dollars. What are you making?"

That sucks. But yeah, Lovie didn't seem happy about it. He did say that it was his fault, though, because there's no tackling in camp. I also forgot that Harris was still playing out of position, but still, that was pretty ugly. At least Harris is putting himself in position on plays. He just needs to wrap up. This is something that is taught, so the coaches need to address it before the season starts. I'm happy with him just being in the right place for now. Also, I noted that now Kreutz is back, so the QB fumbles stopped.... Grossman is pressing, because he knows this is it for him. He needs to settle down, but everyone is ignoring several excellent throws he did in fact make, as well as 3 drops on passes that should have been caught (2 by Davis, one by Clark). Simms noted the Bear receivers were dropping way too many balls, as well. The INT was stupid. Dumb throw. And I've got to say: if I see Gabe Reid on a WR fly route during the season, then that's just pathetic. Reid's a TE, not a WR. Too slow to ever get separation on a fly route. So I think they were just experimenting on that play since you would never see it in the regular season. Definitely. I'm not overlooking Grossman. I think I'm his biggest fan (having seen him in HS in Bloomington). I love when he throws on the run. He's very accurate, and tends to focus more on making a good pass, because his feet aren't planted. The play to Berrian was absolutely beautiful. As I said, I think he needs to settle down earlier, and just move the ball downfield, not trying for the big play so much. The pressure's definitely on him this year. I am a little concerned. I do hope Turner realizes this ballclub must run the ball to succeed. If we see Rex-a-delic passing 60%/40%, I think we're in trouble. Even if Griese is the QB, I still think we must run the football and run it well.

    Aramis...

I'm praying you're right. Because the prospect of facing another 20 years searching for a decent 3B makes me ill.
  20. Agreed. I'm disappointed in Mabry. I realized he wouldn't be as productive as he was in his prime, but the dropoff was much, much worse than I thought it would be.
  21. I'm just guessing right now, but I'm thinking Soriano + Schmidt = too much extra payroll for the Trib to stomach. They wouldn't even cough up the dough for Furcal.
  22. He complained constantly about his lack of playing time in Texas and SD, from all accounts. And Bruce has made mention of the fact that he's very antagonistic with the media, often berating younger players for talking with reporters. Wow I had no idea. Maybe he'll come to his senses and realize his productive starting days in MLB are over.
  23. I'm a Murton fan...but, I don't care how hard he trained..he would be a nightmare in CF defensively. why? Not very good speed/range, not very good arm strength. i always thought murton had decent speed. agree on the arm strength (but we deal with that now with pierre), and range, well, i have to plead ignorant. but i think a winterball of playing cf and some coaching, he'd at least be competent out there, and at worst slightly below average. i'd say he'd do an equivalent job as jerry hairston given some training out there. What do you think will actually happen? I ask because I have no clue. Are they going to give Pie the shot? I think they'll try to re-sign Pierre. :puker: Then, I think they'll look to replace Murton or Cedeno with a power bat, maybe Soriano. Maybe Pierre won't start so terribly. That would soften the blow greatly. Although his noodle arm is just so frustrating for me.
