  1. $115 million payroll, and we get Hill hitting in the most critical situation. Oh yeah, this is the year.
  2. Oh, man, this one's gonna sting for a good long time. Losing streak likely coming up.
  3. oh my that might be worse than the mets game LMAO, I love these charts, they're freaking hilarious. The only time anyone posts them is when they show the Cubs just falling off a cliff like a suicide jumper
  4. Blame this one on Lou. Eyre lucked his way through two innings. There was no reason to send him out for the ninth. If Lou lets Howry start his own inning, this game has a different result. I suppose. Howry's been pitching pretty much every day though. I can't stand seeing Eyre on the mound, ever, so yeah Lou should have known he was playing Russian Roulette and he had already gone through 5 empty chambers  I still say if Eyre can't get anyone out, he should simply be DFA'd, forget about the contract money, we're essentially paying him to lose games for us. DFA makes more sense than that.
  5. Who said we aren't signing Tillman? Where are you getting that?
  6. Wow, the Bears news coming hot & heavy today!! Nobody can say we didn't try with Tank, but keeping him around after this would have turned the Bears into pushovers. You get one second chance, as they say. Good deal on Vash: Gotta love that.
  7. C'mon the Cubs are 7.5 games out of first. It's not like we are battling back and forth for first place. I am assuming the Brewers aren't even looking to this weekend as a 'big series' Not unless we sweep them. From what I've been hearing on local radio, they consider the Cubs to be the only team that could possibly stop them, and they definitely consider this weeked to be a big chance to put the dagger to us. Please no. Not the dagger. Haha, sorry 8-)
  8. You're starting to sound like Hawk Harrelson. Cut it out! :D I know, I can't stop! I've got Hawk disease. Dad-GUM IT!

  10. Would be real nice to get the *good* Guzman back to buttress that staff. I have no idea what's going on with him though. Woody -- I'm not going to allow myself to get my hopes up about him, probably ever again. It's too much of a yo-yo for me.
  11. Yeah, that's what gets me. The guy goes silent for entire freaking innings sometimes. I've heard games where it's essentially DJ alone doing play-by-play and color for 3 innings. And DJ's no top baseball announcer. So, it's incredibly bad. But Hawk is so entrenched, he's not leaving. No skin off my back -- I rather enjoy knowing the South Side has the worst booth in baseball.
  12. Anyone else now unable to stop saying "DADGUM RIGHT!!!"? I can't help myself
  13. Anyone here trust Selig to pimp the right guy on us? I sure as hell don't. Who the heck is this guy anyway? I've never heard of him until now. Canning? Who? Selig's trying to push a lame duck on us to keep us down, dadgum it!
  14. I don't know. The Bears are mum on the subject for now.
  15. After they realized what had been called Hawk was complaing that Rapuano didnt make the 'dead ball' call immediately. So he began to refocus his ire on him for an inning. "There gonna sit down and talk to Rapuano about this one". The production of CSN was a load of crap to WGN (i watched the CSN on mlb.tv later, while watching the game live on WGN). In the bottom of the 8th inning the best CSN had of the video was from a first base dugout came where you can see Pagan slammin into Uribe. It was a very poor shot, they had one of those 'spotlights' on Pagan and the thing was all over the place. It was high school audio/visualesque. Thats BS! :D DADGUM RIGHT!
  16. At some point, it would seem to make sense that Prince will head over to the A.L. and be a DH. Might be a few years, though.
  17. I'd still give Jocketty the keys to the Cubs offices if the opportunity arose, despite agreeing that he has gotten lucky on some players. Luck happens to many GM's, and not always the good ones. I'd give Jocketty a shot because he seems to have a pretty good handle on what it means to build a contending ballclub while maintaining salary sanity. That's something we could use, IMO.
  18. Well, in all fairness (I try to be fair, many times unsuccessfully :)), for the White Sox this isn't a frustrating game in isolation. What we saw yesterday was probably more a culmination of the frustration that has been going on for the past 4 months, really. The corks really blew off the bottle on that play, but it's probably been coming for awhile.
  19. Unless the CSN crew somehow didn't have a 3rd base or a home plate camera, their failure to put up a replay inside of 15 or 20 seconds is inexcusible. The fact that they never showed the obstruction at all* is enough to make one wonder if they knew what had happened but decided to sit back and enjoy the carnage. Maybe they hate Hawk and DJ as much as we do. *I've only seen the youtube video, so if they showed it in the bottom of the 8th, or the 9th, I wouldn't know about it Wouldn't the two broadcast teams be sharing the same cameras for the game? They should have had the same view Bob and Len had--only they know how to call a game instead of fuming like two drunk whining fans. They must have had a separate control truck or something, because I'm pretty sure I remember the WGN broadcast re-showing the obstruction several times, but then going back and looking at the Comcast broadcast it didn't look like it was ever shown until a later inning (if at all). The more I think about this the more I wonder if the Comcast producers just let it continue to watch Hawk nearly have a heart attack :)
  20. Yeah, the Mets. They've got to be a team that would be willing to work with us.
  21. My thoughts exactly. Mine as well. You don't give up one of the top pitchers in baseball for propects coming to an organization whose player development is sketchy at best. I haven't heard a single prospect trade idea that makes sense and improves the Cubs more than keeping Z. If you're talking about swapping him for A-rod or another equal value bat, it's a different story. Trading Zambrano for a ML ready SS that can and will hit, and will be under our control for a long time makes all kinds of sense. Brandon Wood? Sign me up. Is it a little bit of a gamble? Sure, there is no such thing as a "can't miss prospect" but its also a gamble to go into negotiations with a player in an open market with a bunch of teams that are desperate for starting pitching. Id rather have years of offensive production and a guy at SS that looks like he's going to be an all-star than lose Zambrano for nothing. Which is more likely to happen Wood becoming great or Zambrano signing with someone else? My money is on Wood. Interesting you mention Wood, as I was considering throwing in a dig on Wood in my prior post. I can't logically come to a conclusion that the addition of Brandon Wood at SS and the removal of Z in our rotation is going to make this team any better - also add the fact that Z will be replaced by someone significantly worse and we likely won't see an ace in our staff again for awhile. "Wood is still struggling at Triple-A Salt Lake, hitting .225/.324/.396 with 55 strikeouts in 182 at-bats." If it appears Z is gonna hit free agency, then you HAVE to deal him. However, I'd prefer to lock him up. I'm torn on it. But right now, it looks as if the Cubs simply won't resign him due to the upcoming sale. If that's really true, then I think they have to deal him for as much as they can get.
  22. I was thinking the same thing. Brewers could probably better use another decent arm in the bullpen, maybe another bat. Their starters have been pretty good.
  23. You can bet Lovie won't blast him in the press, even if Tank is released. That's not how Lovie operates, and I agree with it. No point to it. "Driving while impaired to the slightest degree." That just seems to be a B.S., totally discretionary charge to me. But whatever, I agree Tank's an idiot for even being out at 3:30AM knowing what kind of trouble he's been in. He appears to have no concept of what it means to lay low to stay out of trouble.
