  1. And what I'm saying is this is ridiculous. "True fans" is a stupid phrase. The theory that many fans find the team trendy because they lose is stupid. The theory that marketing would decline if they won is asinine. It's a stupid topic that should be deleted. More likely we benefit from a certain number of non-Cub fans who simply wish to experience Wrigley Field. I don't see that declining unless the Cubs move away from Wrigleyville.
  2. Don't worry, I think I know what you were getting at. I just think most people wouldn't care what would happen to fans who are just hanging on for the drama of not winning a WS for 100 years. And I don't think ultimately there would be all that many of them. We would probably gain more trendy fans who hang on to winners than we would lose in drama queens.
  3. The fact that the Marlins are showing so much spunk is depressing, certainly. And those fans won't come out to see their future young players? Shame on you Miami. I hope that team moves.
  4. A nut, and I'll raise you a kidney.
  5. That is a sick thought, I want a sweep of the Pirates and then a sweep of the florida then rest the staff in the final weekend. Not realistic because both these teams give us fits. I wonder which "Z" will show up. I truely believe the Yankees were so good earlyy in the centruy was in the playoffs was because they won the division by so much which gave them time to rest their pitchers. boston could have done that this year if they didn't tank it Boston may yet need to rely on the WC to get in. Just think if this was 1969, people would be talking about the great Boston collapse instead of the Cubs.
  6. I'm trying to think of a reason why I don't feel good so I could take a half sick day. Alas, I feel fine
  7. That certainly sounds good. Please just keep winning, Cubs.
  8. Yeah, that would stink. I wanted the Man too and I wonder if the OF is as bad as Dunn said. I don't remember any Cub OF's complaining about it. I have heard either Pat or Len say that the Cubs are way overdue for a complete resurfacing of the field, however.
  9. Aren't the Bo Sox still hugely popular? I see what you are trying to get at LLF, but I don't think I agree that's how it plays out. Ask any BoSox fan if they would like to go back to the days when they hadn't won one in 88 years.
  10. I'm thinking about the horror if we would have acquired Griff at the deadline only to watch him get injured with 9 games left. I still wanted him though.
  11. We'll see if it really makes a difference. I seem to recall a couple other cases where players didn't make the difference we thought they might. ....like for example in 2004 when we finally had everyone back healthy for the stretch run in September, so no question we would make the playoffs right?? Heh.
  12. Yeah nobody wants to give up the division if it's in reach. The home field advantage means something.
  13. It was posted. I can't find it though. The numbers have now become slightly more daunting for the Crew since they lost tonight. I think 6-3 seals the deal. I could see the crew winning 7 of 10, but no more with that bullpen and the opponents they are facing.
  14. I know this makes me a total n00b, but that's the first time I've heard "BSPN" and I like it
  15. I trust his flu had progressed to the point where he was no longer contagious. Otherwise I don't want him sitting with the rest of bullpen getting them sick too.
  16. Has Bruce or anyone commented on the "MLB preventing Cuban buying the team" theory? Do you guys really think that Cuban would really attend a game and sit in the bleachers, if he had no chance at buying the team? It seems to me that the Tribune would want to get as much money as possible for the team, and that an owner like Cuban would be good for the league. The Cubs telling Comcast to keep him off the air certainly does nothing to dispute the idea. Several of the articles that dismiss practically any possibility that Cuban would be approved by the MLB owners cite league sources. Who knows what the hell that means, but the idea certainly seems to hold water. He only needs 75% approval, though, right? That means 23 teams in favor. We know Reinsdorf is a "no." I'd guess Angelos, too. Who else? I have to admit, I don't know a whole lot about the politics of MLB owners. I don't know either, but if the Trib is really trying to squelch the Cuban bid then we definitely need Bruce to step up and write a good article for the PEOPLE! Bruce! Bruce! Bruce!
  17. Maholm's having himself a real marginal season. Last time out it looks like he gave up 10 ER. I guess in August he was O.K. But it looks like they skipped him a few times through -- no starts between Aug 28 and Sept 16. As you can tell I don't know much about what is happening in Pitt. Just looking through the game log. Enough of this madness. Yes, he's a freaking lefty. He's not that good. Beat this guy.
  18. As awful as Ramirez was defensively in Pittsburgh in 2003, it still looks a lot better than Braun's when you stack them up. Plus, Ramirez even then had a history of making the great plays and not making the easy ones. Braun can't do either. I am glad that he wasn't taken out either, and I would take out Braun in less situations than Yost has. Just for the record, I'm really glad Yost took Braun out last night. Just to make it clear, you know 8-)
  19. I think that's the magic number, right there. Just win every series. then have a dead heat between AZ and SD so SD can't rest Peavy against the Brewers
  20. GO DUKE! I was at that game, and it was AWESOME! If NU fans went into hiding after bad losses, they'd all be hermits. LOL so true. Being a Cubs fan and a NU fan teaches you a lot about life.........and how your mom was right "there will be days like this." 8-)
  21. Braun didn't jam his wrist. They double switched to avoid pulling a reliever for a PH. Hunter Pence slammed the wall last night harder than anyone I've ever seen, and he didn't come out of the game. And Houston isn't playing for anything. There is no excuse for what Yost did last night, but I'm not complaining. Were they winning or was it tied? They were up 2-1 in the 7th. This wasn't a move made for double switch purposes (they substituted Jenkins in for Dillon at the same time). They take Braun every time they are leading late for defensive purposes, and that's what they did here. So he did what he always does. Have Brewer fans or most importantly the team complained about this before? Is this guy a terrible fielder? It certainly doesn't sound like taking out Lee to me if he isn't a good defensive player. Even though Lee's defense has been rather Durhamish of late! Yeah, Brewers fans have definitely complained about this. Braun has committed 22 errors at third base even though he's only been in the majors since late May and also regularly only plays 7 innings. Even though I hate fielding percentage because the high numbers are so skewed, anybody with a fielding percentage below .900 is most likely an absolutely awful fielder. I've heard complaints up here about it. I see defensive subs all the time, but in the 7th with a one run lead? He is a bad defender, Schroeder tries to downplay it on the air sometimes but you know -- if you have to bring it up over & over, it means something.

With the Crew's BP, I think it's safe to say it's a bit presumptuous to think a 2-1 lead in the 7th is going to hold up just because you took Braun out for a better defender.
  23. Don't forget we also never had to face Teixeira, so it sorta evens out. I don't think it evens out. At all. This is driving me to drink.
  24. LOL, frustrating ain't it? Glad I'm not the only one feeling it. Just gotta laugh, otherwise I'll cry. :P
