  1. Yeah they didn't look like world beaters, exactly. It was nice to end St. Louis' season (basically), just as we did in 2003. The parallel seemed pretty obvious to me. Not saying the final outcome will be the same of course.
  2. He's gonna put together an offer the Trib can't refuse, and the owners are gonna have to eat it and LIKE IT!
  3. Probably. Blame the system. When you make point differential & strength of schedule count for so much in the rankings, it's really no wonder that fans start taking it into account when talking smack. Until there's a valid playoff system (probably never), such is NCAA Div 1-A football. I really hope that after the regular season/Champ games are over there are 4 undefeated teams. and that after the bowl games there are still 3 Brings up a humorous point. I think alot of college football fans now root for the most troublesome outcome just to see the BCS squirm. It's fun, actually 8-)
  4. Have you ever heard a late inning home run call by Uecker? I am not trying to be condescending, but I have the feeling you might be mistaking him for Jim Powell. Uecker's home run calls are great. I've always like Uecker. It's true he's not as emotional as Pat & Ron, but if you look around the league at all the teams and their announcing crews, Uecker is easily at/near the top of the list. He calls a great game.
  5. Time to start beating the teams who no longer have anything to play for. Time to beat the Reds. No more excuses. Arroyo -- Christ come on it's not like he's Cy Young.

    NFL Week Two

That was such a heartbreaking loss for the Raiders. Great T.O. call by Shanahan. But I was really pulling for Oakland. I don't know why -- I guess I just like to see the underdog win when I don't have a real rooting interest in the game. Hits off the *TOP* of the goal post from 52 yards out. Lordy. I think they showed a shot of Kiffin and all he could think to do was laugh. I don't think I blame him.
  8. Enough with these Reds. Jesus, beat these guys OK?
  9. Northwestern lost to Duke. That is all.
  10. Presumptuous playoff thread #82.
  11. HEART I am Capitan Planet. Theriot recycles.
  12. Alright. I like to put pressure on my OWN team, so I'm gonna say the Cubs need to win 8 of 12 to ice this thing. We shouldn't expect less. It's a bunch of tomato cans the rest of the way for us. No reason at all to expect less than 2/3 in these final series. The Reds still worry me. Espically the series starting tomorrow. Arroyo and Harang always pitch well against us. The Reds' series this week scares the crap out of me. I could easily see them winning this series with Arroyo and Harang going for them. Hopefully Z pitches a great game on Tuesday night against Harang. I'm going to that game so I'm hoping he does. Hopefully Z is good on shorter rest. I dunno, I've seen them look bad even with those guys pitching. We just need to make it happen against us for a change.
  13. I just wonder how much LR has helped these guys? I dunno. LR said he was going to help Marquis though, and it looks like it worked. I keep feeling like we are "getting away" with something with these two performing so well. But hey -- who cares what I feel? I hope it continues.

    NFL Week Two

Just amazing how inept the Chargers look. I was hoping for an actual entertaining football game tonight. It's over before halftime.

  16. Unforgivable to only have 4 runs after all those runners. This should have been a complete blowout. Hope you can hold it, Cubs.
  17. i don't know much about injuries and whatnot, but this is what rotoworld said on June 8th, and it might be why the Cubs waited. Yet another incorrect diagnosis it seems.
  18. I think Ronny even did a few innings with Harry way back. But he wasn't quite as emotional back in those days IIRC.
  19. Really? This just looks like the logical conclusion of where Angel was heading, IMO.
  20. Whew. It's never easy.
  21. Short memory? :) remember the game this year when we blew a 5 or 6 run lead thanks to Dempster? Yeah the Mets game. He's horrible. Put him up in the booth with Ronny as a second cheerleader. He doesn't belong on the mound. 90% close rate. Look at his numbers in save situations. He was bad tonight and he's had some blowups, but he's been a good closer. Don't care. It's luck. His stuff is worse than a career AA pitcher. Every pitch is slop. Well that's an awful lot of luck, because he's kept hitters off base at a solid rate in save situations and kept them from scoring at a decent rate. Oh and he's saved at a successful rate. But it's just been 5 months of luck. Yeah, it is. I remember Joe Borowski pull off luck save after luck save. Then he broke our hearts. Dempster will do the same.

  23. what'd he say? I may be big, but I'm beautiful
