  1. Three years ago when we hired Dooley, that's how it was - we were offering to any warm body. Now, however, we've not gone down Hart's list very far (most think we're still at the top of the list).
  2. He's been mentioned sporadically through most of the search, but he's picking up a bit of steam. Hart apparently interviewed him today, but I think he's more of a fallback/due diligence type candidate. Unless everybody's wrong, it seems Gundy and Strong are by far the top candidates at this point.
  3. Hm, this whole kid thing is a new one on me. Never noticed I had one before. Even if I had one, I wouldn't want Gruden coaching him. He doesn't develop young talent well enough. I wouldn't settle for any less than Tony Dungy.
  4. Apparently there are reports that the Tennessee job is Gundy's if he wants it. Unless he just wants the challenge of the SEC and to get out from OU's shadow, I don't see Gundy leaving his alma mater. Especially considering T-Boone will probably pay whatever is needed to keep him.
  5. That's be a good hire for them.
  6. Yeah, I think Jimbo is Hart's first choice, but I don't think he ultimately leaves FSU. From the sound of it, Strong has really impressed Hart though. The wildcard here is Butch Davis. Apparently he's expressed interest, but I can't imagine with UT already on probation from the Lane era that we'd hire a guy with Davis' baggage.
  7. Mike Gundy rumors are starting to heat up a bit around here. Apparently there are power struggles out there, but he's an alumni of OK St and T-Boone Pickens has endless money. I doubt Gundy goes anywhere. If I had to guess, based on rumors and media reports, I'd put the chances of UT hiring Strong at about 60%, Jimbo at about 30%, Mike Gundy at about 5%, and everybody else below that. How about Gruden? I've never been of the opinion that Gruden would end up at UT.

  9. If we are matching last year's payroll, we still have about $25-30 million to spend. Much as I'll be happy if we are trying this season, I still kind of wish we had gotten Upton instead of pursuing Bourn.
  10. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but between this and the Bourn/Choo rumors, I'm starting to think that there will be some real effort put forth in 2013.
  11. Loved the Akers miss.
  12. Yeah, there are some Gruden-obsessed people out there. I've never really gotten it myself.
  13. Was that the Nashville media, or the Chattanooga media? Not a rumor, just an idea.
  14. Hey, that's more optimistic than I've been about Gruden being hired at either Tennessee organization.
  15. YOU'RE NOT GETTING JON GRUDEN FOR ANYTHING I've not disagreed with you anywhere.
  16. Idaho hired the other Petrino - Paul Petrino.
  17. Man, the Titans are awful. Somebody today brought up the idea of the Titans hiring Gruden with Monte as DC since he just left USC. I would like this idea, but it'd probably cost too much for Bud.
  18. I'm confused, this looks like you're talking about margin of victory or something. I'm talking about what the defense has allowed. That said, by the breakdown you listed (granted from Sagarin), both ND and Alabama played 2 top 10 teams and two top 75 teams. The biggest difference between their schedule is that Notre Dame played 3 top 11-25 teams while Alabama played 2 of those. A little of that difference being made up by Alabama playing two top 100-149 teams, while Notre Dame played 2 of them. Going by that breakdown, there's not a huge difference in the two teams' schedules and, as I said before, is probably not enough to close the gap on the actual statistical advantages Alabama's defense holds on ND. I'm not calling Sagarin infallible at all (in fact, I'm generally pretty skeptical of the computer rankings), I simply used Sagarin because all the rankings are subjective and he's a pretty credible subjective guy.
  19. Sagarin has Alabama's schedule ranked 35 and Notre Dame's ranked 30. Not a big enough difference to disregard the statistical advantage. That said, I don't think Alabama's is considerably better. Just slightly.
  20. ND is ranked 1st in points per game. Though Bama is 1st in yards per game. I'd lean toward Alabama as best defense in the country - 1st in ypg and 2nd in ppg allowed. ND is 1st in ppg allowed, but just 6th in ypg allowed. If you count fcs opponenets Bama's ranks still hold even if you take Western Carolina out. Those numbers count the SEC Championship game, so it's 12 FBS games for each. Bama just adds the 1 FCS game as well.

  22. Brent Hubbs of Volquest (pretty reputable guy) saying that Charlie Strong was interviewed yesterday by Tennessee and it went well. Mike Gundy is apparently set for an interview tomorrow and Jimbo Fisher likely to interview Monday.
  23. Anybody familiar with hogcountryonline.com? They're saying this: I don't know that I buy it, but Arkansas does have money to spend.
  24. This CBS crew is really bad - especially in comparison to the Musberger/Herbstreit and Gus/Charles Davis crews that have followed them all season.
  25. I've never been a McCarron fan. He's a good game manager in the mold Saban likes, but he's no more than a McElroy type QB at the NFL level.
