  1. Local radio and writers are reporting that Lane Kiffin has been offered the Tennessee head coaching job. I'm ok with this move. I wanted Mike Leach, but Kiffin is intriguing because of his upside. Apparently, he's bringing Monte Kiffin and Ed Orgeron (for recruiting) along with him.
  2. This argument is similar to what I heard around Knoxville the past few years that Fulmer has done a worse coaching job recently because he's gotten a little fatter. No offense, but it's rather silly. Just because the man is fat and looks a little lazy doesn't mean he's not motivated to win - he just doesn't show intensity on the outside and he's not in great shape. Interestingly, I've never heard anybody say Mike Leach is unmotivated, yet he's fat and doesn't appear to be extremely intense. my comment has nothing to do with his girth. It is about basing your opinion on his nature by looking at his personality. A person can be very motivated and not look it. You saying he looks lazy therefore he is lazy is akin to saying Phil Fulmer is fat so therefore he's lazy and that translates to his team.
  3. I say Weiss ought to have one more year. His starting quarterback (Little Jimmy), running back (Armando Allen) and two wide receivers (Golden Tate and Michael Floyd) are all sophomores and juniors. The offensive line was flat out bad last year and there's a new defensive scheme (I believe) with the addition of Jon Tenuta to the staff. It's not that easy to turn a 3-9 team into a 9-3 team, if for no other reason than confidence issues with the players. Put him on the hot seat and see how he can do next year when the skill players are mostly juniors. EDIT: I wouldn't shed a tear if he were fired, though, because that would put Jon Tenuta on the open market. I'd love for whoever the next UT coach is to hire Tenuta (since it's so unlikely he'll bring back John Chavis).

  5. Let's go Ping! UT/UK to break the streak. Kentucky will probably win, but hopefully the guys will show up for Phil Fulmer Day.
  6. Eh, it was going to happen eventually. This team wasn't finishing the year perfect and if we were going to have an abysmally horrible game, I was hoping it'd come before the playoffs. I wouldn't complain about another loss or two and then a three-game win streak in the playoffs.
  7. Assuming a win over Syracuse (sorry ND fans), they just clinched a berth in the Orange Bowl, I believe. I think it's also the first time in program history that they beat Pitt. then charge the field after clinching next week... they're at home. There's something very wrong about charging the field after beating Syracuse, to be honest. Even if it clinches the national championship game berth, I'd be embarrassed to charge the field after beating the Orange(men). I wonder what Notre Dame fans' opinion is on that matter. Ouch, cutting and unnecessary right there. :-))
  8. Yeah, really. Who doesn't like watching Beyonce bounce? Such things are assumed and unnecessary to state. Eh, never hurts to state the obvious every once in a while.
  9. Yeah, I don't like this at all. Stoops is probably making his case to move ahead of Texas in the polls, but it's time to get the starters out. You're clearly the better team, leave it at that.
  10. I love how the ABC broadcast has devolved into Kirk Herbstreit talking about how he likes watching Beyonce bounce. :-))

  12. That was silly. This is simply not Tech's night.

  14. this is really mind boggling. alabama was ahead 31-0 at halftime, but because georgia spent all second half piling up yardage through the air and scored a bunch of points that were next to meaningless, while alabama was just chewing up time by running the ball. anyone with any sort of sense would say that alabama carried the play in that game, but according to you it was basically a coin toss. that is just a terrible understanding of everything. Yes. While the score said 41-30, the game was not as close as the score may have indicated. There was a BADLY miss call on the punt return (there were two block in the back on the punt return that were not called, and the SEC admitted to the mistake) and the other two scores came withint 5 or so minutes left in the game. Anybody who saw the game knows Alabama whupped GA. So yeah, Meph doesn't have a leg to stand on in this case. GA was simply outplayed by Alabama regardless of the score. Bama was clearly the better team that day, but the Tide played nearly perfect football and Georgia made a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes in the first half that contributed to Bama's lead. The main point is that UGA is a better team than they showed that day. How much better is the difficult question to answer.

I'll take Meph's side to an extent on this one. Georgia was down big at halftime, no doubt. But, they did turn the ball over at least twice deep in Bama territory. Had they not turned it over and, instead, punched it in, you're looking at a potentially two score game at the break. Bama legitimately won that game big, but didn't outplay UGA quite as much as the score would indicate. Hope that makes sense.
  16. Cincy was on the edge of giving up a 28-7 lead to Pitt, but recovered an onside kick with 1:22 left. 28-21 Cincy right now, 1:16 left and Pitt with one timeout. Prospective Tennessee head coaches not looking stellar tonight.
  17. Tech is absolutely better than Georgia, and they have the record to prove it. They have the record to prove it? If they play Florida, they lose. If they play Alabama, they probably lose. That's the two losses that Georgia has. It's really up for debate. You can throw Texas Tech, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, and Utah all in the same group. What's Georgia's big win? 4 loss LSU or 4 loss South Carolina? Tennessee. That was a hard fought win.
  18. If ND fires Weiss (surely they won't), I wouldn't be surprised to see him flirt with them. Also, Pete Carroll may well get bored at USC and either retire or head back to the NFL. USC would almost doubtlessly outdo the $4 mil Bama pays Saban. it'd be a bidding war between alabama and usc... the winner would be the school that cuts player salaries the most to give that money to the coach. USC would probably win that one. There are enough beaches and beautiful women in Southern Cal to sway players if you offer a little less money than Bama.
  19. OU's kicking the crap out of Tech at home, though. I don't think this happens quite as badly in Lubbock. Problem is that the Sooners probably beat the 'Horns in Austin. Yes, we beat them in Dallas, but we didn't out play them and our performance outside of that game isn't as impressive as theirs has been. I see what you're getting at. I'll feel a lot better if it happens next week with a win over Okie State on the resume, though.

  21. You really think they'll be favored over Bama? The Tide is returning quite a few great young players as well. I'd favor Bama by a little, if Nick Saban is still there next year. Yeah, Alabama should be favored to win the West next yr, even tho it wouldn't surprise me if Ole Miss gives Bama all they can handle for the division title next yr. Nick Saban is at Alabama till he retires. There's not a better job out there, (yes I said it, there are not better jobs. There might be equal jobs, but no better jobs out there) that is open. Nick Saban is at Alabama till atleast 2015. You can write that down now. That's what I thought about LSU too. If he gets the itch (which is likely), he'll leave. Be it back to the NFL (somewhat doubtful), Notre Dame, USC . . . . he'll leave at some point.

  23. On what basis? Texas beat OU (slimly, albeit) and lost to Tech in Lubbock (very, very slimly). I don't think they should. You have a triangle of wins between OU/Tech/Texas. Tech has the worst schedule of the 3, with no games of note beside the 3 south teams, and 2 of those 3 were at home. OU has non-con wins over Cincy and TCU, in addition to Tech(in this scenario). Texas has OU, Mizzou, and OSU. So, I'd say that Texas probably deserves to stay in front this week, but OU would probably deserve to jump them if they beat OSU next week. After they beat OSU, I don't think I'd have a big problem with it.
  24. This could clinch the Heisman for your boy. Harrell is rattled and I'm not sure I like this call. Really though the defense is why he'd win it. The problem is that Bradford is not really doing all that much. He's playing well, but really the running game has been dominant. Most of the voters will likely credit Bradford with the high point total, though. Especially since he and Harrell were at or toward the top of the list beforehand.
  25. Florida? I should let you know that if Tim Tebow goes. Snead will be the best QB in the conference, with Stafford, JPW and Tebow out. The second best will probably be between Ryan Mallett and John Brantley, two sophomores with very little experience. Yep, Florida. :D And you're probably right - of course, there aren't many good QBs in the conference now. Stafford, Tebow and Snead are probably it.
