  1. That's a great thing to be able to do something like that. This is a great hire, but the problem wasn't defense with Tennessee, it was the offense. Hey dew, any idea who is likely as OC? No idea right now. I've heard (primarily from Hosak) that there's interest in Trooper Taylor, but otherwise not much. I suspect Lane Kiffin will likely call the plays himself, but again that's pure speculation.
  2. Chris Mortensen on ESPN Sunday Countdown just said his sources are saying that Monte Kiffin is, in fact, planning on joining Lane in Tennessee after the year. Mortensen made it sound like a done deal. I hope he's right.
  3. If UK played well, I would hate to see them play poorly. UK was awful against a bad team. UT ran the ball for 210 yards and was 88th in the country in rushing yards per game going into this game. Cobb needs to go back to WR b/c he can't throw the ball and UK needs to operate in a pro style offense, and I'm hoping that either Morgan Newton or Mossakowski is starting as a true freshman next year. I guess I should break it into first and second halves. In the first half they played pretty well but UT just kinda took over in the second half. And I agree about Cobb. Coming out of high school I didn't even consider him as a QB prospect and the past two weeks haven't given me any reason to change my mind. He'd make a really nice receiver/return man, but he's not a quarterback.
  4. This sounds bad considering how badly we played, but I was very happy with this Tennessee performance. Jonathan Crompton didn't do anything stupid and didn't turn the ball over at all - in fact, after the third quarter he was 6-8 for 101 yards and a TD. His best throw of the night was a deep TD pass on a post pattern to Dernarius Moore. Hopefully he can build on this outing and have some confidence going into next year. I was also very glad to send Fulmer out with a win. It was a very emotional scene on the field as he met his players at midfield and they carried him off with flashbulbs going in the background. Awesome moment for a terrific head coach. Ping, your boys played pretty well. The offense wasn't very good, and it didn't help that John Chavis appears to have figured out how to defend the spread option offense this season. Randall Cobb only had a few runs of any significance tonight, but he's definitely fast and very athletic. Now, onto the Lane Kiffin era. For better or worse . . . . .
  5. That's the amazing thing about Paul Johnson's offense. When it's running well, you can know they're running and still not stop them.
  6. Nope, redshirt sophomore.
  7. Wow, Georgia Tech had Stafford sacked at the one and in the end zone, but whiffed on both tackle attempts. Stafford then rolled out and nearly completed a 20-yard pass.
  8. I really hope Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno leave for the NFL early. Both are likely to be first round picks (and with the dearth of good QBs in this draft, Stafford could be a top 10 pick).
  9. That's pretty awesome. No way they beat CMU otherwise, though.
  10. Just saw on ESPN that Oregon State's Jacquizz Rogers is out today. I knew he was very doubtful, so I don't know if this is news or not. It's a big loss for the Beavers in their pursuit of the Pac-10 title.
  11. Stinks. I was enjoying watching State stink under him. Question now becomes who are they gonna get. Any SEC head coaching spot is highly coveted. I doubt this happens, but I wonder what kind of interest Phil Fulmer would have in that job (and likewise, what kind of interest MSU would have in Phil). I doubt there is interest, and I doubt Fulmer would insult UT by going to another SEC team. If Fulmer coaches again, it will be in a non SEC conference. You're probably right, but I wouldn't have the slightest problem with Fulmer taking an SEC job. He was forced out - he didn't want to go. Therefore, I don't think there should be limitations on where he goes - self-imposed or otherwise. After a force-out, I don't believe a coach owes a school anything.
  12. I don't think he would've been fired after this season. Luckily for Miss. St. they don't have to fire him now. I kinda suspect his resignation was less than voluntary. And these announcers doing the UGA/GT game are befuddling. Josh Nesbitt was well outside the tackle box and threw the ball away, and the announcers are trying to figure out why a flag wasn't thrown for intentional grounding.

  14. Georgia Tech has no semblance of a defense whatsoever today. They're moving the ball decently enough, but UGA is just walking up and down the field with nearly no effort. 28-12 Georgia now, less than a minute til halftime.
  15. Sylvester Croom has officially resigned from the Miss St head coaching job. He had good defenses most of his tenure there, but his offenses were utterly horrific.
  16. Ah, OK. Wasn't sure if points put up by teams that beat you makes any difference on that sort of thing. i don't believe so. personally i think that any system that regards texas tech's win over texas the same as oklahoma's win over texas tech is terrible. if you want to add a limit to margin of victory so that teams aren't rewarded for running up the score - say, 30 points - that's fine. but margin of victory should really matter. I do agree that there should be a limit, otherwise you're pretty much promoting running up the score. I think a 20-30 cap on margin of victory would be a good thing. Latest rumor (which I put almost ZERO stock in...): Norm Chow to be Kiffin's OC at Tennessee. Not gonna' happen, but that's out there floating around. That would be hilarious. The thought of Monte Kiffin at DC and Norm Chow at OC at Tennessee makes me very happy. I agree, though, pretty much less than zero chance of that happening. Today's names... Bill Callahan at OC. Yogi Roth for WR/TE, and Art Kehoe as OL coach. Sounds like Scott will not be retained after all. Trooper was offered a position, but not as an OC, and not for as much money as he's making now. Hmmm, the names are beginning to sound worse. I'm disgusted by Bill Callahan, never heard of Yogi Roth and I don't know much about Art Kehoe except that he was a part of that horrible Orgeron regime in Oxford.
  17. Monte wouldn't be moving across the country since he's currently housed in Tampa. The only reason I see him coming here, though, is to help his son with his first collegiate head coaching job. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense for him to leave (not really doubting your sources, Hosak).
  18. ESPN's gamecast is completely screwed up. The graphic in the box score says 23-14 LSU, while the box at the top of the page says 30-24 LSU. Awesome.
  19. That would be the littlest Dick, Nathan.

  22. Panthers sign Chris Gamble through 2014.
  23. you know your coach sucks when dave wannstedt is better than him. It's more like LeSean McCoy is a really good football player. He finished with 183 yards rushing and I don't think Pitt threw the ball once on the final, game-winning drive. All they did was hand the ball to McCoy and let him run over Moutaineers.
  24. We weren't all that big last year. Chris Lofton isn't in the NBA because he's too small (6 feet, I think) and JaJuan Smith was only 6'1". We are very big this year, though, with Renaldo Woolridge, Cameron Tatum, Brian Williams, Emmanuel Negedu and Wayne Chism.
  25. Good to see it's now on ESPN. That's why I posted it. I know, wasn't giving you a hard time.
