  1. He really should be the first WR off the board. I honestly didn't expect his straight line speed to be quite that good - I was expecting in the 4.5 range. Keep having visions of Charles Rogers with Patterson. All the talent in the world, but I don't know that I can pick a WR in the top 10 that doesn't also have dominant performances on the field. That's understandable. He was pretty productive if you take into account running the ball and returns, but his route running is suspect at best and his hands need some work. I really think another year in college would have increased his chances of excelling at the NFL level.

  3. Wow... who hand timed him with that speed? NFL Network had him at 4.25 and 4.29. Yeah, just heard Mayock say that (I'm watching on a delay). Really impressive. Cordarrelle Patterson ran a 4.37 his first time - that's amazing at his size.

  5. Soriano WARs as a Cub according to Fangraphs: 7, 4.1, 0, 3.2, 1.4, 4 Soriano WARs as a Cub according to B-R: 4.1, 1.9, -1.8, 0.6, -0.3, 1.8 He's never had a negative WAR as a Cub according to Fangraphs and has had a negative WAR in 2 out of 6 years as a Cub according to B-R. NOTE: That's not to say he's been a great player or anything like that. I was just refuting your assertion that he's been a negative WAR player since his first year with the Cubs.
  6. I'm pretty happy with the way they handled most of the roster. If you set aside the Ian Stewart debate and give them a bit of a pass because there's pretty much nothing out there at 3b, then everything else was handled pretty well. They put together plenty of adequate depth in the rotation, outfield and bullpen. I still wish we had signed Keppinger. The guy I really regret not getting is B.J. Upton, though he didn't got paid a little more than I expected.
  7. Great. Now the Chiefs are going to take Geno Smith instead of Joeckel. [expletive]. That just boggles my mind that they would do that. I don't dislike Smith at all, but Joeckel is a far superior player and there will be comparable QBs in the second round (Bray, Wilson, etc).
  8. Ah, ok. I wasn't sure if the disbelief was over the Titans getting Ball that late or if it was just a dislike of Ball. I like Ball outside the first couple of rounds, but for the Titans I'd like a slightly bigger back. Munchak wants a "thunder" option to CJ's "lightning" kind of like what we tried with CJ/LenDale, but I'm not convinced Montee is quite big enough for that.
  9. Not a Montee Ball fan? I'd like a bigger back, but if he's the worst pick we make in the first four rounds I'm pretty happy.
  10. Walter Football's most recent mock has Jarvis Jones falling all the way to Pittsburgh at 17. I understand he has the degenerative spine issue, but wow. He has the Titans taking Milliner/Warford/Rambo/Ball in the first 4 rounds. Mike Munchak needs to read this mock and take it to heart.
  11. This is pretty much exactly where I am. I've been very outspoken in the past couple of years over needing to pay what's necessary for elite level production, but pitchers make me very skittish. They're just too much of a major risk to feel comfortable with giving them these mega-money deals. Injuries can happen for any player, but the likelihood is unbelievably higher with a pitcher, especially one with the mileage Felix has on his arm. I'd probably ultimately bite the bullet and sign him were he a FA, but it's nowhere near a slam dunk and I'd be really nervous every time he took the mound that his arm would fall off at any time.
  12. Yeah, I like Jones more than a late 2nd-early 3rd pick. I wouldn't take him in the first, but I'd consider him fair game after that. i'd take him in the first if we like him, won't be able to trade down and he won't be available at #50. My guess is that there'd be somebody better that you're passing on if you do that. There might even be a better interior lineman available.

  14. Huh, I completely forgot he played left tackle. I knew he had played across the entire line for spurts, but I didn't think he played that much LT.
  15. In all honesty, I might just let him go. This wasn't a great Ravens team anyway, it just got hot at the right time, and it's primed to lose a lot of talent - Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Boldin, Kruger, Ellerbee, Flacco, etc. They might be better served not to commit that much money to a guy who hasn't been that great over the course of his career and instead plug the hole for a couple of years while they look to draft a QB in the next 2 years. With the drafting acumen of Newsome and DeCosta, I'm pretty confident they'll find a suitable replacement. That said, they're good enough and proven enough that basically any decision they make I'll assume was the right one. That's probably the best front office in the game. * Note: I'm working under the assumption that he's going to demand a hefty raise after the playoff performance and that he's now a *winner*. If you can get him on a reasonable amount of guaranteed money, you obviously bring him back.
  16. raw might be able to answer this better than me, but I'd guess no. He might be sufficient there, but I'd be really hesitant to plug in a guy who's been an interior lineman throughout college into the most important spot on an NFL offensive line.
  17. So a 4 game stretch now means more in evaluation than a 16 game stretch?
  18. Yeah, the stupid side of the debate (Flacco has as many Super Bowl rings as Rodgers and Peyton so he must be as good!!) is really annoying. love it or hate it, in today's NFL, super bowls are won by very good to great quarterbacks. Typically yes, that's the case. But having a ring doesn't make a QB great. Flacco didn't magically become a great QB because he put a Super Bowl ring on his finger. He's a good QB on a good team that got really hot at the right time.
  19. Cameron was fired with 3 games left in the season. Flacco had 1 good game and 1 bad game in the regular season (only threw 8 passes in the final game) and then was pretty good in first 2 playoff games and really good in final 2 playoff games. I think Cameron's been there since he was fired from Miami.
  20. you got Vonn Bell http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2013/2/6/3937742/vonn-bell-signs-with-over Reports (from everybody) were wrong - Vonn just announced for Ohio State. Must be nice rooting for schools that are serious about winning football games.
  21. Yeah, pretty much. And I hate all of those too.

  23. I am so sick of hearing arguments over who is elite and who is not. Serious discussions are interesting. I'm tired of discussions on whether guys are elite or not that are based around QB W/L record and other meaningless stats.
  24. And if Denver manages to successfully play prevent defense, nobody is discussing whether or not Flacco is elite and whether he deserves more money than Brady/Manning/Brees. Exactly. I understand the playoffs are important, but not so much that one good playoff run should make an average QB elite.
  25. EJ Levenberry just reaffirmed his commitment to Florida State. Tennessee's running out of good players to bring in at this point. Really unimpressed with Butch right now.
