  1. I love Suh. I haven't watched enough of him to be declarative about this, but the little I've seen reminds me of a slightly smaller Albert Haynesworth. He's a big DT, but still athletic enough to move around a bit.
  2. Top 30 draft-eligible players. Here are the top 5:
  3. This is interesting, to say the least: Martellus Bennett or Miles Austin would be my guesses.
  4. I don't think it matters one way or the other. Lou is the hitting coach and the head coach. The other guy they hire will have to be subservient to him. I wonder if Jaramillo factored that into his decision? I think the difference in the two is that Lou focuses more on approach - he emphasizes high OBP, patience, etc. Jaramillo, on the other hand, specializes in mechanics - developing and maintaining good mechanics in the hitter. They're two offensive minded coaches no doubt, but both specialize in a different area. While Perry and Joshua are both very good hitting coaches, the thinking was likely that they were just duplicating Lou's efforts - two doses of preaching OBP and patience, basically. With Jaramillo, there's an "expert," if you will, on fixing players' mechanics. Will that make a huge difference? I don't know, but it's intriguing nonetheless.
  5. Good news. Now I hope Von Joshua takes the position back in Iowa and we'll have a pair of really good hitting coaches at the highest parts of the organization.
  6. Yes, Kiffin can be an arse and still show up in those orange jersey, but it will cost his team 15 yards on the kickoff to begin both halves. I'm pretty sure CNS is the one being a doucey arse here If that is what you think, then so be it. You be wrong, but that's okay. Alabama has the right to decline it. If Alabama/Tennessee game was played a neutral site similar to GA/Florida, Texas/OU, USC/UCLA, then fine I'll be for it, but since it's NOT, Alabama has the right to deny Tennessee, just like Tennessee has the right to deny Alabama if the roles were reverse. It's not being "douchy" it's what I call keeping the competitve advantage. how is it keeping a competitive advantage? I can't figure it out. If it's just a gimmick, then Saban shouldn't have an issue letting them wear the orange jerseys. I can't imagine why a coach would care what jerseys the players were wearing.
  7. Cowher wants to stay close to home, I think, which really would limit his options. Of the jobs that may open soon, Carolina would be by far at the top of his list, but Nashville might be close enough for him to listen to an offer. He won't go just anywhere, though, I don't think. I seem to remember that the story was that he wanted to stay at home to be with his family while his daughter was in high school. She graduated last spring, though.. Interesting. I didn't know she had graduated. He may be interested in branching out a bit, then. I still think he'll limit his options to the job of his choice, though, instead of any offer that comes his way.
  8. New QB would make Fox look like a much better coach, I think. I'd agree with that.

  10. Not a fan of the current coaching free agent class? Holmgren, Cowher, Shanahan, Gruden...I feel like I'm missing someone. dungy (and the crew of UFL guys) Dungy...man how'd he slip my mind? I really don't think he's interested in coaching again. Not sure about Cowher either.
  11. Not a fan of the current coaching free agent class? Holmgren, Cowher, Shanahan, Gruden...I feel like I'm missing someone. This might be bias talking, but I'd take Fisher over all those coaches with the possible exception of Cowher. Shanahan might be a better coach, but he'll likely demand too much front office power. All are excellent coaches, though.
  12. Smart move by Shanahan, I think. Considering both Dallas and Tennessee may have openings after the season, definitely a good move.
  13. Speaking of Jim Zorn:
  14. I think the Patriots are still scoring, though. Titans players are probably having nightmares of snow and Brady touchdowns.
  15. I was up 27 going into last night and I had Vincent Jackson going and he had Denver's defense. I figured I was in pretty good shape, but then Denver's D (i.e. Eddie Royal) put up 44 points and I lost by 3. And that's after Brady put up 70. Started out 3-0 and now I'm 3-3.
  16. I really don't get it either. He's been quite good in his time in Chicago. It was Dusty's fault. Dusty was a terrible manager and misused pitchers badly and as a result their poor performances reflected badly upon Rothschild and he received a lot of heat IIRC when they brought him back after Dusty was gone. I think there's still some people who fail to remember that the pitching woes of 2004-2006 were largely in part due to Dusty's management of the pitching staff, not Rothschild's coaching ability. I was one of those people who was upset when Lou asked for Rothschild back. Then the Cubs pitching was really good in 07 and it was obvious that it wasn't Rotshschild who was to blame for the bad pitching in the year or two prior. Dustty never wanted Larry in the first place; his preference would have been for Dick Pole to have been pitching coach instead of bench coach. Larry was basically forced on Dusty because he was in the middle of a multi-year contract (the only coach whose contract didn't expire at the end of the 2002 season). I remember reports that Dusty basically ignored what Larry had to say. He was really pitching coach in name only. Wow. I never knew that part of it. Yeah, that came out shortly after the Dusty regime ended. It's part of the reason I pretty much eliminated most - or all - of that period from my evaluation of Rothschild. And it should be pretty apparent, I would think, that he's better than that after how good he's been since Lou took over.
  17. I guarantee the Titans will not go to 0-7 this week. :yahoo:
  18. Psh, but how does that make the 1982 Colts, the 1960 Cowboys, the 1942 Lions, the 1943 Cardinals, or the 1944 Carpets feel? :) If a team is named the Carpets, it should go winless. So there. [-(
  19. This is pretty much the way I feel about the game. The defense will keep us in it, but without a big play by the defense/special teams, we won't have the offense to win.
  20. Sureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Just because USC and UCLA did that a couple of years ago doesn't mean squat. It's not doucey, it's gimmicky, and Alabama football and more important Nick Saban football doesn't need or required gimmicks. So just because Alabama said no to the crimson .v. orange jersey doesn't make it doucey, crying about something so trivial now that says douchebaggery. Why should Saban care if Tennessee wears its orange unis? If it's just a silly gimmick, it shouldn't bother him if Tennessee wears them, correct?
  21. LOL at that last part. Um, Lions? Eh, once in the entire history of the NFL is still kind of unheard of. The 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers say hi. One of my all-time favorite quotes came from that team. Head coach John McKay was asked what he thought of his team's execution, and his response was "I'm in favor of it." Ah yes, the 76 Bucs. Ok, Bud should have said nearly unheard of. Would that make you nitpickers feel better?
  22. Why are the Raiders trading McFadden? They've apparently made everyone available except Asomugha. Whoever said that is exaggerating. No way Davis will let McFadden or Heyward-Bey go. Those are his babies. Like I said it is probably an exaggeration. They are probably trying to trade a lot of guys to get draft picks but the young, highly touted ones I seriously doubt are amongst the players available. If everybody is available, though, I'd really like Louis Murphy on the Titans.
  23. I really don't get it either. He's been quite good in his time in Chicago.
  24. We've always been a heavily man coverage defense under Schwartz. That was one of the big knocks against the Harper signing - people weren't sure he could play man defense after playing the Cover 2 for so long in Indy. Receivers dropping 4-5 balls a game didn't help Collins at all. His highly publicized 13 straight incompletions in the Jets game included at least 3-4 drops on perfect passes - all or most for first downs. It's been a team-wide breakdown and singling out Collins is unfair, in my opinion.
  25. I've complained about him from time to time but the pitching has held this team together for the past decade. They've been a mediocre (or worse) hitting teams in most years and the only thing that had them contending in 2003, 2004 and 2009 was solid pitching. Part of that is an organizational focus on ptiching, but he's done it with several different casts of characters and only one constant, Zambrano. Just about the only pitching coach I'd consider over Rothschild is Duncan. Rothschild has been very good for the Cubs and very well deserving of staying for so long.
