  1. It may be nitpicking, but he was good for three seasons: 2004: .826 OPS 2005: .824 OPS 2006: .885 OPS His OBP improved each year he was with the Cubs, from mediocre to pretty good - .337, .345, .368. I think his decline was probably more age related (he was turning 31 his final year with the Cubs) than anything else.
  2. Gruden's biggest problem is that he can't pick a QB. He had Rich Gannon in Oakland, but he went through so many QBs in Tampa and never could settle on one. They never developed one (or even tried, I believe) either. He was rumored for the Tennessee job after Fulmer was fired (though I don't think it was ever realistic) and while I was intrigued, his inability to settle on and develop a QB concerned me. It'd be the same way for an NFL team.
  3. I think Cowher is going to be really choosy on where he returns to. I'm thinking the only jobs he'd consider would be those close to his home in North Carolina - Panthers, Titans, maybe Jags (not sure on distance there). That's just going off the comments that he wanted to be with his family when he retired the first time. I wonder if his thinking has changed since the death of his wife? I understand him wanting to be close to his family while she was sick, but now that she has passed away maybe he is more willing to take a job more based on the strength/prestige of the franchise instead of just where it's located? Dallas is is a very good fit for him IMO. That's a good point I didn't think of. It's entirely possible he'll be more open to moving out again.

  5. I probably wouldn't since Tolbert is apparently going to take goal line carries away from Matthews. I have to think Greene will eventually hit his stride. He's too good not to. He's been so bad to this point, however, that I'm starting Mike Tolbert over Greene. That's annoying.
  6. I'm probably going to drop Favre in one of my leagues. Is that silly? I just picked up Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez is still available. I currently am carrying too many QBs with three – Favre, Palmer, Ryan. I'm thinking about cutting Favre after starting him against Detroit and then picking up Sanchez. Then, when we either hit bye weeks or when I start getting injuries, I'll cut one or two of my QBs.
  7. Isn't Vick's contract up after this year? I thought he originally signed a one year deal with a team option for this year. If so, they wouldn't be able to trade him in the offseason (unless I have no idea what I'm talking about). You're right but I would think unless Vick has no interest in resigning, the Eagles would try to extend him midseason even if they plan on trading him in the offseason. I could see that. Re-signing Vick midseason would probably further piss off Kolb, though. He's probably not thrilled that one bad half – and a good to very good game and a half from Vick – got him benched and re-signing Vick would send the message that Kolb won't be the starter for at least a couple of years. By the way, what's with the Eagles and quarterbacks? They were never truly happy with McNabb, thought they had the starter of the future in Kolb and now are starting Vick. Why can't they settle on a good QB and be happy? Is it just that it's Philadelphia?
  8. Home field advantage for Notre Dame?

  10. Mortensen says it's permanent.
  11. Even though it sounds like Beanie will be active Sunday and perhaps steal a few carries away, I'm not sure I want to start any RB against NYJ. That's what I was thinking. Ronnie Brown is better, but Hightower has the better matchup.
  12. If Arkansas can turn the game into a shootout, I think they have a chance. They've got some really nice weapons and I don't like McElroy that much. Arkansas can move the ball down the field and has a shot to outmatch Alabama down the field if they can turn it into a shootout. However, with how good Alabama's defense and running game are, I don't see a shootout as being likely. I think Bama will win, but it shouldn't be a blowout.
  13. I'd probably go Eli, honestly. Both defenses are solid, but Eli's the better QB. Here's one: Hightower v Oakland Ronnie Brown v Jets
  14. He's a junior, correct? He probably won't be the first QB off the board, but he'll have another year to work with Malzahn and improve his throwing ability. I could see him becoming a Steve McNair type QB in the NFL – give him a year or two to sit the bench and learn and see what he can do about his third season in the league.
  15. I'm interested to see Newton's stock as an NFL prospect. He's not ready to go after this year as he still has stuff to work on, but he's huge, got a great frame and fantastic athletic ability. Depending on how his arm/decision making/etc translate to the NFL, he could go really next year.
  16. Linebacker (perhaps future DE?) A.J. Johnson committed to Tennessee over Florida. Great job by Dooley of beating out Florida for a guy who decommitted when the Kiffins left. At 6'3, 226, Johnson is really interesting.
  17. Had it done today.
  18. The whole dog thing is probably keeping a lot of people negative about Vick as well.
  19. Kolb in five games last year (2 starts): 64.6 comp %, 4:3 TD:INT, 7.7 y/a, 88.9 rating Not earth shattering, but decent – except for that TD:INT ratio.
  20. Well, we should be able to beat UAB. UAB is kinda decent, but nothing special. 2-2 is pretty much expected at this point in the season, though it'll be nice to get a win heading into 3 of 4 games against ranked teams. LSU, Alabama and South Carolina are coming up with Georgia as the only unranked team in that group. I'm hoping for 2-3 over the next five games. It'll be tough, but doable.
  21. Fisher sure does like to bench that guy. I think he really likes Collins. It wouldn't surprise me if his preference would be to play Kerry Collins, but Bud Adams won't let him. That said, Vince was truly horrific yesterday.
  22. Decent enough game for Tennessee Saturday considering we lost by 2 touchdowns. We played much better in the second half against Florida than we did against Oregon, but still not well enough to win a big game. Matt Simms is clearly nothing but a placeholder, but there's simply no way Tyler Bray could hold up for a full season. Tauren Poole is a really good running back and this offensive line is going to be really, really good once the 5 freshmen and sophomores become juniors and seniors. I still think this team can win 6 games. UAB, Memphis and Vandy should all be wins, with Ole Miss, Georgia and Kentucky as real possibilities for wins. South Carolina is always good for a clunker or two (or more) every year.
  23. The Titans were embarassingly bad yesterday. Seven turnovers in one game is awful. The defense was good, at least. I'm hoping Fisher's decision to bench Vince and play Kerry Collins won't start a QB controversy. I'm thinking it was just a one-game kind of thing, but with the drama that's surrounded Vince, this story will probably go the entire week.
  24. Unusual concept, cheerleaders who aren't allowed to cheer. Can they be called cheerleaders if they don't cheer?
  25. NC State looked a lot better than they have the past couple of years when I've seen them. I think they're on the way up, for sure. As for ECU, after losing to James Madison last week, Va Tech is either going to have given up, or they're going to be pissed.
