    I'm disappointed in you all for not mentioning the lack of hustle by Morris on the play that Burnitz beat out. :D Am I the only one who found it amusing he loafed the last 5 feet to the bag? Nice concentration there. Letting his struggles on the mound get the bets of him. Nothing but a flat FB and a hanging curve last night, the Cubs should've hit him harder.

    How many black catchers are there? I think they become stereotyped early on into a role based on the fact they are assumed to be athletic and will end up becoming a position player. I can remember my HS basketball coach telling us this team we're facing is quick and atlethic b/c the majority of them were black and if we were playing an all white team, he would tell us that we can outrun them and we're equal athletically. It happened to be the opposite the two times he mentioned this.

    Santana followed by Halladay and then Colon. That is also factoring the fact that Halladay has been injured and the Twins aren't going to the playoffs. They also have a combined 24 wins this year, yet have been better than Colon. When Alfonseca led the NL in saves was he the best closer or the most opportunistic? I take the same approach to a pitcher and wins.

    Plus, I'll never be one to complain about another person being pompous. I'm sure there are plenty on here who feel that way about me and they're probably right. :D I've had plenty of Cards fans tell me I'm arrogant. I just asked if "I was right" when I made my point, which made it worse.

    Cubs fans are like that as well. But, the times I have been to Busch, they have been less than cordial. I think the Cards is the city's most pronounced feature, so they'll be as pompous as possible, I'm like that w/UK basketball. I've always said Boston fans know the most about their team, but the way to tell if a region knows about baseball is by looking at the amatuer levels. You're not going to learn the game by watching every game on the TV or listen to it on the radio. You can read a boatload of books as well, but not many people read these days.

    To follow suit, I appreciate the greater divulging into stats such as OPS during the broadcasts than the majority of play by play broadcasters. I was skeptical at 1st, but I have been impressed and pleased with the contributions of both of you in the TV booth.

    It depends where you get hit, in the example I used, the player was hit in the rear. You throw at a player and that's where you want to throw at him. Players get thrown at all the time, it just depends where they get hit that determines diff. degrees. Certainly nothing wrong with moving some feet and trying to eliminate him from diving across the plate, I wish the Cubs did it more. I don't want them to throw at players, but I want them to establish the inside part of the plate and if a player gets hit, chalk it up to bad luck.

    My memory is not the greatest, but I think Morris threw an off speed pitch that missed the batter (went behind him). And I do not recall that he did admit to throwing at the hitter. Usually pitchers hide behind the idea that it was accidental. :wink: Did Morris throw at someone after Z hit Edmonds? I cannot recall. Either way, I am not for pitchers throwing at hitters. And if Morris did so without a reason (retailiation for Z's actions) than that makes his actions bush league. On the other hand, I appreciate watching a good pitcher moving the hitter off the plate or trying to be intimidating. Carpenter, Prior, and Clemens are good examples of this. Why is it bush league, MLB has taken away the pitcher's ability to intimidate players? A 1B has been lucky against a good pitcher. He goes 2 for 2 this night, and the opposing pitcher gets a base hit. At 1B, the 1B says "God man, Hoot, you've got such good stuff I don't see how anybody can hit you". The pitcher didn't even look at him and just said you "A-hole" (without the reduction). Next time, the 1B gets to the plate mentions to the C "I'm not going to like to like this at bat am I?". Well, 1st pitch he got nailed. Is this a bush league player (the pitcher)?

    If I was to guess, I'd say Jones is the fav. of the writers at this point, looking at his HR totals and his hyped defensive skills, Jones would likely get it and not deserve it. I have no faith with those voting.

    I can't believe I'm defending that local windbag (Hastert), but I didn't take it as "should we rebuild New Orleans", but they should rebuild it properly, if not, this tragedy can occur again. But, they definitely should rebuild the city.

    Give any manager a young bench and for those young players to come up thru the pipeline, they have to project as utility players for them not to be mismanaged by a veteran fetish. I think Cedeno and Murton have shown to be a viable option as starters if proper resources are allocated around other holes in the lineup. If you gave Dusty a young bench, at least 1/2 should likely be starting by the halfway point assuming the Cubs aren't the Yankees and have 8 position players making more than Walker next year (2.5).

Palmiero as the 5th OF'er (LH'ed bat off the bench), Chris Gomez-utility player can play 2B, SS, 3B. Chris Woodward-another utility play who can play all the IF positions. (+6 mil max.) Blanco Pitchers: Z Prior Wood Maddux Millwood (FA) (+6) Bullpen BJ Ryan (FA-CL) Dempster Sauerbeck (FA-LOOGY) Ohman (2nd LH'er) Van Buren (sit. RH'er) Rusch/Williams/etc. long-relief. (+10) +34 mil, Then factor 10mil for Sosa, 5 mil for Hawkins, 5 for Burnitz, 4 for Remlinger, 2 mil for JoBo, 8 for Nomar, Perez and Macias (just under 2mil). (-36 mil)

    Not only could he eat himself out of the League, he could drink himself out of the League at the same time. Nothing more frustrating than watching a fat player struggle b/c of inability to control his weight. You're starting to see that in St. Louis as Ray King continues to go from an oval shape to a circle shape and it showing in his production lately. He's been overweight his entire career, but he's still getting bigger as the years go on.
