  1. Pitchers with good sliders are his weakness, even in '03 with Prior and Wood at their best, with Z coming on quickly, it was Clement that gave him the most trouble with that slider. A good splitter will give him trouble as well. He's guessing right now rather than reacting.
  2. Pujols can not see the ball well out of Bonderman's hand.
  3. I'd be surprised if Pujols gets a hittable FB after this 1st pitch.
  4. I think signing Burnie was Hendry's real mistake, rather than giving Dubois a shot in left. Jermaine Dye would've been a nice RF addition instead of Burnitz. :)
  5. That misplay by Guillen comes back to haunt Detroit.
  6. How many hitters did he fall behind? Even with Monroe's terrible AB, they managed to score 3. Detroit would be better off putting Monroe 6th since STL has figured out his one trick.
  7. Haha, I loved that. I just tuned in. So Pudge took second on Edmonds being lazy. I just heard the announcers say, "Having only played 19 games in right field, Duncan's inexperience showed with that one." Are you kidding me? Routine fly ball just right of CF, probably about 5-10 ft. short of the track, plenty of time to get under the ball to get momentum to make a stronger back to the IF. Edmonds loafed to the ball, couldn't get anything under the throw, Pudge tags, and Edmonds tells Duncan to say something. And the commentators totally buy it and blame the whole thing on Duncan Agreed, the only thing Duncan should've told him was to hustle.

  9. Suppan missed on the FB (not the slider) to Casey. Great job by Pudge and Bonderman, probably added about 10 pitches to Suppan's pitch count. Edmonds became lazy and tried blaming Duncan for not telling him that the runner is tagging.
  10. Detroit has to use the entire field, Monroe won't get a FB 1st pitch, I doubt he'll get anything on the inner half. Bonderman has to locate his FB better. Suppan located his FB very well, Pujols looked like me at the plate.
  11. Bonderman will need to establish the inside FB to help set-up the sliders to RH hitters.
  12. My keys still remain the same, given the extra usage of the pen, I think the extra day helped Detroit moreso than STL.
  13. While I don't think Alou would be a good fit for the Cubs, I think his baggage is different and less than Sheffield's.
  14. He recently interviewed for the Rockies hitting coach.
  15. Chambliss-http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060430/COL09/604300397/1082/SPT Jackson-http://www.s-t.com/daily/03-03/03-24-03/c02sp096.htm
  16. Juan, Colorado looks like it is going to be snowed in, even in Denver.
  17. Ron Papa Jackson for HC and let Joshua cont. to teach in the minors. Indifferent about 1B coach.
  18. My keys to tonight's game... Bonderman's ability to get ahead in the count, espec. a 1st pitch strike. IMO, he has one of the best sliders in the game that not only is unhittable to RH'ed but dives down and in to Lh'ers, his ability to go to it will be similar as Carpenter's curve in the dirt w/2 strikes. Suppan will need to locate as well as he has this post-season as well as maintain the sharp movement on his 2 seamer as well as his curve.
  19. Part III: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/primate_studies/discussion/evaluating_managers_part_3/
  20. I think Hershiser will be one of the better managers in the game and (if selected) would be a very good fit w/Oakland.
  21. Is Izturis worth the 4.45 mil owed to him next year? (That includes the 300K buyout, unless the Cubs pick up his 5+ mil option for '08)
  22. This is a question that would be better asked to Bruce Miles, I thought the Cubs had a choice to get someone from the Dodgers minor league system (assuming the Dodgers created a list of minor league players as well as the Cubs creating one) or getting someone who can help now and the Cubs decided to get someone who can help now. Given the Cubs current state and the possibility of getting someone from the Dodgers, I think they would've been better off exploring a prospect rather than someone like Izturis. They did explore a prospect (prospects, actually) and were told flat-out no. The reports I gathered that the Cubs asked for a top prospect and a second tier type and were denied and then it went from that to Izturis w/out anything in-between as Hendry had talked about Izturis in the past and went from there, once his initial and outrageous off was declined? I just wonder if a lesser prospect would've been more manageable for LA or did they have no intention of trading a prospect regardless of his ceiling?
  23. Can't say I'm real excited about that... WTH? Are you serious? Who is he going to be announcing with? Does it matter? I'm guessing Baldinger. It is Baldinger & I hate satellite delay.
  24. I contend they could've rec'd something more of value or at least something off the books for '07. While it has been reported that Hendry asked high originally, no team would give that much for Maddux. But, I don't think a player in the 25-40 range (using BA's subjective analysis) would've been too much for a btm of the rotation starter. I do believe that a mid-level player in the Dodgers system would rank much higher in the Cubs system.
