  1. This is a question that would be better asked to Bruce Miles, I thought the Cubs had a choice to get someone from the Dodgers minor league system (assuming the Dodgers created a list of minor league players as well as the Cubs creating one) or getting someone who can help now and the Cubs decided to get someone who can help now. Given the Cubs current state and the possibility of getting someone from the Dodgers, I think they would've been better off exploring a prospect rather than someone like Izturis.
  2. I'd like to see pitchers throw inside more to shatter more bats. Ask a scout and one of the more effective 2-0 pitches is a BP fastball just off the plate, aggressive hitters eyes light up, they open and get around it too quickly for a strike.
  3. Eh, I'm not good at this managing stuff.
  4. I'd go with Grilli now.
  5. One of his rare changeups to K Wilson.
  6. Time for a quick hook with Robertson.
  7. If he's the best hitter in the game, you let him hit how he wants or do anything to take away his aggressiveness. If he had a BB/K ratio like Patterson did, then you make some adjustments.
  8. its amazing that the announcers are this bad. I have to admit though, that the casual fan needs this crap to be interested. Didn't find Inge spinning a FB or flipping a bat up with his foot interesting? I miss that stupid baseball telling me how a change-up works.
  9. I'd let him swing away as well.
  10. It's amazing how managers get credit for pitchers getting out of jams.
  11. The best balance at the plate can you give hits like that.
  12. OVER-RATED (If you're serious) In what regard?
  13. I'm not Fred, I don't give scores. :) Robertson changing speeds well, hasn't used his change or slurve much, he might mix them in more as the game wears or hold the change for Pujols.
  14. He hasn't thrown many curves for strikes, Detroit has to show some discipline and lay off of it as much as possible. Of course, he'll mix in his slider.
  15. Bell has been horrible behind the plate so far, his zone has been inconsistent.
  16. Carpenter is locating well, didn't have to use his curve, only 2 balls hit hard thru 2.
  17. Robertson did a good job with his cutter, he threw one change to Pujols.
  18. There it was Detroit not staying disciplined against the curve. Carpenter throwing a non FB first pitch to Monroe. They have to show patience against not trying to hit that curve w/less than two strikes.
  19. It's posted over on ESPN.com now. There isn't any mention of a world wide draft in the article. Good, I'm glad that concept has been taken off the table.
  20. While it was never something that deterred big spending teams from accumulating high priced FAs, it was a nice compensation for those teams unable to retain them. I'm disappointed to see it go. Did the new CBA mention anything about a worldwide draft or has that concept been completely thrown out?
  21. The Cards would be wise to not throw Monroe first pitch FBs anymore. They can probably throw him FBs, just not down Broadway. He'll probably reach for one outside his hot zone, if Carpenter gives him a steady diet of curves in the 1st AB. We'll see how disciplined Detroit is when they hit his curve, if they get out in front and roll over or drive it to the opp. field.
  22. My keys to the game: Robertson's ability to change speeds as well as establishing the change-up on the corner. His FB will have to be well placed and can not become predictable with his patterns, especially on the 1st pitch. Carpenter will have to get his curve over consistently, espec. against Monroe, I doubt he'll get a FB down the middle on the 1st pitch. Offensively, Detroit will have to force Carpenter to throw FB in FB counts by not chasing the high FB or the curv low and away. STL will be able to catch up to Robertson's FB and a RH'ed dominated line-up will eliminate Robertson's breaking ball unless Robertson does something he usually doesn't throw (backdoor curve).
  23. I heard a coach get upset at his team for walking too much on offense, he said that they were there to hit and not walk. They also scored 20 runs in 3 innings.
  24. Most pitchers use pine tar, most aren't that obvious. I don't think they could suspend him for this series w/the current CBA. There's a reason why that pine tar is in that specific spot and it's for his change-up as it'll rest in the pine tar and slow it down more without changing arm speeds. His change-up was one of the things I mentioned before the game as well as hitting Weaver's 1st pitch FB. I doubt Monroe will get another one.
