  1. You're failing to account for the poor approach Detroit had at the plate. What type of adjustment did Monroe make after STL didn't throw him a FB early in the count to get ahead? Why did STL go from a 85% FB team vs. the Mets to probably about 70% with Detroit (STL throws more 2 seamers than most teams)? The Detroit hitters were sitting red even with two strikes, they did not show the ability to hit avg, breaking pitches (Carp and Wainwright had the two above avg, breaking pitches).
  2. Why does it matter? It's not like they're taking the bowl spots from better teams, and most of them are Christmas week games that not many people watch outside their fandoms. I'd rather watch an 8-4 team from the MAC or CUSA than some team that played four bad non-conference teams and then beat the worst two teams in their own conference. The way the system is set-up is that a 6-6 team cannot get into a bowl game over a team with a +.500 record from any D-I school. The only exception might come along with the BCS, but that's rare and would only impact 1 team.
  3. I love Navy's coach, one of the more underrated ones in the game, never has talent there, but has the gimmick system that gains yardage and keep his defense off the field.
  4. I want to know what the hitters were told to look for, I know what they were looking for, but their approach made their avg. hitting line-up look terrible.
  5. Pujols is doing quite well from the players' perspective, it looks like he doesn't understand the scouting aspect of it.
  6. I was down in Bloomington last weekend, there's a higher % of Cards fans in that bunch than Cubs fans. Towards me, they have been more than civil.
  7. And the Tigers did all they could to just give the Cardinals the series. Defensively they were horrible and they should fire their hitting coach for Detroit's approach the entire series. Have your hitters sit dead red and get burned by breaking pitches.
  8. They deserved it, they played better than Detroit, which is all that matters.
  9. Who cares if the Cards win it? Maybe it's being in Chicago, but the only time I deal with Cards fans is at Wrigley and I doubt I'll get there next year anyways.
  10. Luckily I won't be around tonight, Tom House will be holding a pitching clinic and that will be more valuable than tonight's game.
  11. The 1B coach can always assist in areas where he can provide knowledge. Clines and Sarge offered hitting advice while at 1B, Alomar was working with Patterson on bunting, as well as on every other team the 1B coach goes beyond the in-game duties of a 1B coach.
  12. As cliche as it is, defense (lack of) as well as good pitching by STL and a poor approach by Det. has been why STL is up 3-1. The defense mistakes/bad breaks by Detroit were numerous. Guillen not catching the hit and run, which he tags Miles without the ball. Monroe overrunning the ball allowing Rolen to go to 2B, Granderson slipping on Eckstein's fly ball, Rodney's error, and Monroe's poor jump on Eckstein again.
  13. Was that guy with the kid w/the Stupid red beard, the same guy from Benson?
  14. McCarver expects that Bonderman would not be smiling and laughing had STL tied the game after he allowed the baserunners and had been pulled? Wonderful insight again.
  15. That's a nasty combo right there.
  16. Good move by Leyland.
  17. Nothing wrong w/that, potential DP with the corners in and middle at DP depth.
  18. Schilling is more of a FB/splitter type pitcher. I see more Smoltz in him than anyone else.
  19. Bonderman is a change-up away from becoming one of the best in baseball.
  20. Bonderman has fooled Pujols tonight and he pitches scared to him in the 3rd AB.
  21. I would've let the pitcher pitch to the #8 hitter, I'd rather take my chances of Miles vs. Suppan compared to the next inning of facing Suppan and then Eckstein, rather than Eckstein, Wilson, and Pujols. With the way Duncan has been hitting (or hasn't hit), Pujols would likely leadoff the inning after that.
  22. Lasorda will throw every cuss word at you if you do.
  23. Another misplay by Detroit might've cost them a run as Monroe played that ball poorly. Had Rolen stayed at 1B, Wilson GIDP.
  24. Does Fox have to keep a camera on the manager while they are interviewing him? Are they expecting viewers to be confused as to whom it is?
  25. So far Bonderman has made Suppan throw 12 pitches thru 2 ABs.
