  1. From small sample and only from the eye, I've thought that Tavares is the best defensive CF'er in the game. I believe that Pie can become better than him though.
  2. Clutch and he hustles, not from me, but what might be expected.
  3. Meh, leave me alone. It's way too crowded there anyways. that wasn't directed at you . . . Good, I was hoping you weren't taking a cheap shot at my lack of good skiing facilities nearby.
  4. Meh, leave me alone. It's way too crowded there anyways.
  5. It's quite a long ways from Daytona to the majors for a manager. To me, the best manager in the MWL was Walbeck with West Michigan.
  6. He's had a history of groin problems, if it flares up from all the torque, he can compensate by shortening his stride. He might be up in the zone that day and trying to get down the ball down. It could be fatigue but, Schmidt might be one of the rare ones where he can shorten his stride and as long as he'd still intact mechanically, he'll be fine. He has some of the best mechanics in the game.
  7. Congrats to Davis on the promotion, him and Zisk is quite the makings of a quality staff out in Daytona. I thought Davis did very well in his 1st year, I'm glad the Cubs thought so as well.
  8. Mark Prior doesn't do the towel drill because he got hurt, he's done it since at least USC, if not longer, to keep his arm loose and to keep his form, if I'm not mistaken.. But funny, original joke anyways. The towel drill is just a checkpoint to make sure everything is correct to be able to smack the glove from max stride plus 5 feet. It does nothing as far as improving mechanics or endurance, it just tells you that if you're not hitting the glove, something is wrong. If you miss to the left or right it is a balance issue and if you're short, you're rotating too soon. Of course, you're always better off having someone there who knows what they're doing and can breakdown your delivery at each important stage. I've never understood this odd fascination with the towel drill. Someone needs to get over excited about pitchers doing long toss, at least that improves arm strength.
  9. I wonder if he will still be able to throw as hard as before? My money is on him dropping 2 to 5 MPH's off his fastball. All depends on the shoulder, physically there wasn't much potential of velocity growth given how perfect he was physically. If he can get feel of his breaking pitch(es) again, he might end up being a similar version to the good Matt Morris (except diff. breaks on the curve). He has long ways to go before we see anything like we did in '03. Ability to pitch a full season, 65-70 FB, 65-70 curve, and 70 command.
  10. Everything I heard from Tom House was that Prior will be ready to go and healthly (about a little over a month ago).
  11. Pie has made strides. I think Patterson is much closer to his ceiling than Pie is right now - the question is will Pie get to his ceiling or not? I am not convinced Patterson is a better player right now but I think he is probably slightly less likely to collapse in the majors than Pie. As far as I know I think both are potential leadoff hitters. Does this mean in a couple of years Soriano gets moved to 5 spot? Pie definitely isn't a leadoff hitter. I agree, but do you think Hendry does? Hard for me to say but maybe for Hendry, he doesn't utilize his speed enough, has too much raw power, and strikeouts too much compared to someone like Patterson (even though his K rate is too high) long-term. As I previously mentioned, I have my concerns about Patterson hitting leadoff, but I think he's more likely there than Pie.
  12. I expect that as well. Of course, that means UK will play either BC, Maryland, or WF in the Music City Bowl (if GT wins).
  13. No love for California Pizza Kitchen? It's better than any other, IMO.
  14. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=451&p=2&c=557866 If S. Carolina goes to a lesser bowl than Bama, I would be amazed. I'm not too sure of how well their fans travel and I assume Bama won't have many given what has taken place.
  15. Leave J-Lo (*aka BBQ) out of this one. :)
  16. I don't think either are long-term answers for hitting leadoff. Pie will likely hit for a higher avg. but will have to improve his apporach obviously. Patterson, I don't think will be a good enough hitter. Pie is going to have to cut down his Ks and follow the mold of Crawford with the Rays.
  17. Anyone else concerned about the declining strikeouts?
  18. Craig Wilson, Jose Cruz Jr., Kevin Millar, Wes Helms, Rondell White, etc.
  19. He should be inducted into the HoF for what he did as a player, he should not be allowed back into baseball for how he gambled on the game.
  20. Not to complain too late after the fact, but did anyone else have a problem with Lovie calling the TO before the half to ice the kicker so late in the snap count? He basically gave the kicker a free practice kick, it should be noted that the kicker missed the 1st one. This might've been mentioned earlier.
  21. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=10&p=2&c=594473 I don't really like rooting for the Gators either.
  22. Arkansas is too high I think. If they lose, they'll have three losses to Auburn's two. The Tigers will likely be the bigger draw to the casual fan and thus will go to a higher bowl. Also, if the Razorbacks lose, it wouldn't surprise me to see them drop all the way to the Cotton Bowl and UT fit into the Outback Bowl for the same reasons. Tennessee may be the bigger draw, both ratings and attendance-wise, despite the Ainge-less shellacking we took from Ark. I think you're right. Cap One-Aub. Outback-UT Cotton-Ark I'm really not sure about the UT/Ark bowl situation, it could go either way. I just figure Tennessee is a more established power, thus we would get the benefit of the doubt. If Ark does lose, I think it becomes a battle between UT and Auburn for the Capital One Bowl, I think Auburn pulls it off and UT ends up in the Outback Bowl. One of the Members of the Outback Bowl commit. could not see a way for UT to fall past the Outback Bowl (assuming an Ark. loss).

  24. They surpassed my expectations as well, they played well vs. UT, just couldn't finish it off. It was clearly their best defensive performance despite all the missed tackles. My SEC predictions Sugar-UF Rose-LSU Capital One-Arkansas Outback-Auburn Cotton-UT Peach-UGA (I hate Chick-Fil-A) Music City-UK Liberty-USC Independence-Bama
  25. The Bears better draft an OLB 1st next April.
