  1. Congrats to Billy and Bob Hale. (if true)
  2. I agree that Cedeno has earned his shot to try and be the Cubs starting SS. Hopefully, having some more experience w/Joshua has helped his hitting and will carry over defensively.
  3. Anyone in their right mind would love to have Eckstein's production on the Cubs this year.
  4. Exactly, although I've talked to myself at work and then tried to make it seem like I was talking to the closest person.
  5. Betancourt will never be accepted by many b/c he'll never hit for power and doesn't BB much, but he can swing the bat and will be around .300 for most of his career, but he has great hands and a cannon. He's just flashy, which is nice to see once in awhile (although, I'd prefer production everyday of the week).
  6. 8 mil is alot to eat, especially on a team that likely won't increase payroll and more likely to decrease it. I'd rather see them take on an additional salary of a disappointing yet somewhat expensive for this year that expires at the end of this year. 6 mil. could be close to some of the more expensive players on some smaller yet equally productive payrolls.
  7. That's alot of salary to eat (assuming it includes '08 as well).
  8. Ripken aging, Arod moving, Garciaparra's injury all led to this. Now Tejada isn't the same player he was. Michael Young isn't having his usual season. A lot of top SS prospects have proven they can't handle the position on top of that. Players like Hardy and Betancourt (who I love watching), also Drew, Wood, Tulowitzki, Reyes, etc. I'm not too worried about the next generation of SS. While they prob, won't reach the production of Rodriguez, Nomar, Tejada and Jeter (I think Reyes will though), there will be enough quality out there to still recognize the offensive advantages of having a quality SS.
  9. He was trouble in college and trouble in the pros, he got what was coming to him. Let some other team take a chance on him, he did make his teammates who pleaded to Lovie to get Angelo to keep him look like fools, this was one day after the workouts concluded.
  10. Raisin knows my cell #, he has blackmailed me. :)
  11. UK will be anywhere from 5-7 wins, I'll take the 6 wins as my guess. Woodson will be back, Little should be healthy, the O-Line is still bad. New defensive coordinator will hopefully improve that unit from bad to not so bad.
  12. I hope they don't go with a platoon w/Pie, I agree with the others that he has play everyday at the major league level against RH'ers and especially Lh'ers. With a team that is 5 games under, there's no reason to stunt the development of someone with the possibilities of Pie.
  13. Mateo not good enough? Hernandez and Renshaw are the most (only?) interesting guys on the team and they pitched each of the last two days. I've seen Peoria a handful of times between Beloit and Kane Cty, Mateo and their pos. players just isn't enough to get me out of dinner.
  14. This game will be decided by the pens and the Cubs will take advantage.
  15. I wish Peoria would give me a reason to go tonight.
  16. It's disappointing that Bowen and Theriot were up with the way Javy served those two outs up.
  17. They have a month or so to determine where they're at, that includes playoff possibilities and in-season contract talks. I can't even begin to speculate where they're at as far as contract talks (don't even know if that's going on) but we'll have a much better idea where they'll be for the August/Sept. stretch. If they're in a similar position a month from now as far as their record and nothing has progressed in contract talks, I think trading him is the best option.
  18. Funny, you mentioning the Rockies. Weren't they recently shopping for a 4th/5th oufielder, who is left-handed and can handle CF? They've been searching for that since they got rid of Juan Pierre. Taveras is having a Juan Pierre type of season when Pierre was in Col. I've always liked Willy.
  19. It's pretty typical since most of the ratings are based on a few highly rated prospects that usually start the season at High-A/AA/. Over the course of a few years many of those arrive at the majors and surpass eligibility time or flame out. As far as an inability to maintain year to year much of that has to do with team philosophy and how teams change once they usally benefit from having a good farm (like the Cubs after '03). I think comparing the Cubs and Sox, it isn't that Cubs got better as much as the Sox having some interesting drafts and no splashes as far as international FAs, which is why they overhauled their amatuer scouting dept. There are some teams besides Anaheim (LAD, ATL, CLE, TB, NYM, etc)that consistently rank higher than the Cubs, the Cubs had their stretch early this decade but once Prior, Cruz, Z, Hill, and Choi weren't prospects anymore, they fell off quickly.
  20. Best logo as well. http://www.logoserver.com/baseball/MontgomeryBiscuits04c.GIF
  21. If you miss Davis and get Mason, he'll throw well there.
  22. If this was based on humor, I would've been eliminated in the 1st and def. by Treeman. I have the sense of humor of a walnut. Obviously... saying chestnut would have been much funnier. Agreed. :(

  24. I would enjoy watching the relationship between Piniella and Bradley, to be honest, Lou is probably a manager that could do well with Bradley.
