  1. They look defeated already.
  2. They have to score here, that Dline will kill Juice knowing he has to throw. There's a huge diff. in talent here.
  3. I like the scheme of cont'g to put on pressure.
  4. I thought Florida made the right call.
  5. Quite a battle of disappointing trash talkers.
  6. Those comparisons are always thrown around, any small pitcher with a quick arm gets lumped with Kazmir if he's lefty or Oswalt if he's a righty, since it's the draft, you'll see Gray lumped with Drabek and Parker. Sure Wilken, area, and crosscheckers will have seen him enough this Spring and seen him already several times if they like him and he's on the board that he's a poss.
  7. If I was to guess... Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Fukudome Derosa Soto Pie My ideal lineup Soriano Fukudome Ramirez Lee Derosa Soto Pie Theriot/Cedeno
  8. We talking PBP, analyst, or both? Worst: Play by play-Thom Bennanman was the worst, he has improved since then. Analyst-Joe Carter and Brenly was pretty bad as well in his 1st stint. Best: Play by play-Harry Caray before the health problems in the late 80s. Analyst-Stone I liked Staats as well when him and Harry switched TV/radio.
  9. Go Pats.... I'll be quiet now.
  10. These are the signing bonus amounts from last year's draft: Baltimore Orioles $7,672,500 Washington Nationals $7,619,300 New York Yankees $7,432,500 Detroit Tigers $7,305,000 Tampa Bay Devil Rays $7,172,000 San Francisco Giants $7,027,000 Toronto Blue Jays $6,290,500 Texas Rangers $6,102,500 San Diego Padres $5,763,500 Kansas City Royals $5,618,400 Arizona Diamonbacks $4,946,000 Chicago Cubs $4,932,250 Cincinnati Reds $4,352,250 Pittsburgh Pirates $4,163,400 Atlanta Braves $4,047,950 Seattle Mariners $4,034,800 Oakland Athletics $3,944,900 St. Louis Cardinals $3,781,000 Boston Red Sox $3,505,500 Colorado Rockies $3,393,000 Los Angeles Dodgers $3,337,250 New York Mets $3,328,800 Philadelphia Phillies $3,312,000 Florida Marlins $3,228,750 Milwaukee Brewers $3,177,700 Chicago White Sox $2,444,550 Cleveland Indians $2,271,800 Minnesota Twins $1,837,000 Los Angeles Angels $1,291,600 Houston Astros $536,000 Wash. was quantity rather than one or two players like Balt. (Wieters and that TCU pitcher). The Cubs with the 3rd overall pick finished just barely in the top half.
  11. Minus Shark, the Cubs have never really gone much over slot early in the draft. Obviously, with Rundle, Shark, etc. they did in '06, but nothing would indicate the Cubs are as aggressive as the teams Raisin mentioned.
  12. I'm rooting for Zagone to rebound and do well again, if he pitched like he did in the Cape, I expect him to go early in the draft. He's a good kid from a good family. Everytime I go to his alma mater (Prairie Ridge HS), I always drive by that big Mizzou flag outside his parents front door.
  13. Defensively, he's very much like Theriot as far as a lack of an arm and range (maybe worse hands than Theriot but better than Cedeno). Unlike Theriot, Keppinger can hit and be a productive top of the order hitter.
  14. Unfort. I'll only get to see two of those teams (Michigan and SIU).
  15. Agreed TT, also that might be an indication of signability as well.
  16. There are definite to question whether or not Pie can make it as a major league regular. Of course when the options are him, Fuld, or Pagan at this point in CF, it's fairly obvious as to whether or not Pie should be given a shot.
  17. They're not of equal value not when projecting what position they will likely end up. If you project someone as a SS, he better have the fielding, arm strength, and range to stick there before mentioning how well he hits. You need arm, speed, and fielding to project players at a particular position or maybe a couple of them if need be. Hitting is based on load, stride, balance, bat speed, follow-thru, lack of fear, ability to adjust, ability to center the ball, etc. Batting avg. don't mean crap when all a kid has faced are some HS pitchers topping out at 75 MPH.
  18. How else are you going to grade a player, especially at the amatuer levels?
  19. Barry Bonds and Carlos Beltran were 5 tool OF prospects as well, Magglio Ordonez was as well and he had a worse approach than Pie coming out of Venezuela. I support Pie starting in CF and if that includes needing the time to adjust offensively, so be it. If he doesn't progress offensively, it becomes an issue, but he hasn't been given that chance nor is there anyone else blocked by Pie who might be better. Given the current Cubs roster, there will likely be 3 below avg. spots of offensive production and two that could be dealt with (SS and CF), I'd rather see them go with the higher ceiling player (Pie) and improve SS rather if their ultimate goal is to get a better bat in the lineup.
  20. When has Goony never complained? :) I don't care if anyone agrees or disagrees with me.
  21. Although I'd rather talk about draft prospects moreso than draft orders, here is an updated draft order. http://pgcrosschecker.com/crackthebat/patrick_ebert/07_12_19_comp_picks/
  22. Former Cub Matt Walbeck is prob. the best future manager I seen in the minors the last few years. He'll definitely make a good future manager, IMO.
  23. Roy Williams appealed his suspension yesterday, good luck on this one. The rule was created in your name, yet you still horsecollar them. Personally, he should've been suspended longer. He knows what he's doing, he's trying to injure players without a doubt in my mind.
  24. Modestly successful.... LH'ed version of Baldelli.
  25. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?n1=soriaal01&year=2001 Hopefully some more BBs with less steals. That's for next year only.
