  1. Speed is a valuable asset to have, just at what cost? I think putting Roberts at leadoff and Soriano where he belongs in the middle is an upgrade offensively. The likely increase in OBP of Roberts over Derosa is more valuable than the speed advantage, although if the Cubs had another higher OBP guy at the top, Derosa's ability to hit in the middle of the order would outweigh that speed advantage. It is pretty telling as to how close the abilities of Derosa and Roberts truly are when roster composition plays a larger factor into why Roberts should start rather than their abilities.
  2. It was Lofton over Tom Goodwin, though. That was two weeks between Patterson's injury and Lofton arriving on the Cubs. Patterson in the 1st half of the year was just as good as Lofton in the second half, you can't say that about Ramirez and Bellhorn/Hernandez/etc.
  3. That second half pitching in '03 carried that team, specifically getting Prior back also upgrading Ramirez from Bellhorn/Hernandez was more of an impact than Lofton over a productive patterson.
  4. And furthers my belief, all things being equal, barring an offensive explosion in ST, Theriot is the starting SS. I wish there was choice "C".
  5. Agreed, this is definitely a negative trend that has followed him his entire career regardless of playing surface.
  6. That's what they've been saying about Gray and his mechanics, that he has an easy arm action.
  7. He's always had high error totals throughout his minor and major career so while the fields play a role so does his high error totals of the past, it deserves being factored into the mix.
  8. I wouldn't put Fukudome 3rd, he still has to adjust to MLB pitching approaches and all the adjustments mentally/emotionally to playing in the US and the added pressure. While it doesn't seem like such a sign. move going from the 3rd spot in the order to hitting 2nd, the Cubs don't have a real good #2 hitter although Derosa could become adequate. I def. wouldn't reserve the spot typically given the best overall hitter to someone who hasn't had a MLB AB when there are capable #3 hitter already in place. That's something he could play his way into, which would be ideal as well for hitting #2 but there's a hole there.
  9. Penn St. should be alright O'Neil can mtch up with anyone not named Putnam on Friday nights, they don't have the offenses of Mich. and Minn.
  10. The Illini will be right there w/OSU, Michigan, and Minnesota.
  11. Seattle Jacksonville TB SD Straight-up.
  12. I think Ramirez has passed Lee as the best hitter on the team which is why I have him 3rd, ahead of Lee. As far as keeping Soriano at leadoff, that spot would be between him and Derosa and I think with Derosa unlikely to maintain that same OBP and having a better hitter (Fukudome) behind him that Soriano unfort. (ideally I'd like another a high OBP at the top and pushing Soriano in the middel of the order) become their best leadoff hitter despite more power than an ability to get on base.
  13. Booty will prob. be a 4th-5th round pick and end up being a career backup.
  14. Go for it here.
  15. There's no touch on those throws.
  16. USC needs to blitz
  17. That's the ballgame. Unable to pass or run, need some sort of miracle.
  18. http://eastwindupchronicle.com/?p=984 Good luck seeing him posted anytime soon.
  19. There's no reason not to have 8/9 in the box right now for USC.
  20. Stone also acted extremely pompous towards the end there as well, he was being smug towards those players who had the confrontations with him. Stone went out of his way to being critical towards the players and it showed a lack of class. Neither side, whether it be Dusty and the players or the booth handled it well during the fallout.
  21. McKnight needs some new cleats, he's still faster and quicker than everyone and he can't get his footing.
  22. That's demoralizing right there. USC has to go to for the KO.
  23. Protect that ball, he's lucky that wasn't knocked out.
  24. They've got to get 7 here to get back into this.
