  2. Unfort. Rolen's injury history and the uncertain nature of it, tips this trade in the favor of STL. We'll see how Glaus' foot surgery impacts his range, he had good range before and a strong arm. Contracts would likely cancel out and STL gets a better player, it would be a good move for the Cards and it would get rid of a potential clubhouse problem.
  3. Getting Byrd would be a very solid move for the Cubs, he won't be as good defensively as Pie, but could be a nice insurance policy or platoon partner for Pie.
  4. He's not a top prospect nor is he or likely will be an above avg. player, but he's a late bloomer by learning a plus pitch (cutter) last year and it allowed him to take that next step. He has what it takes to stick in the majors, I think he's better off in the pen, but we'll see who goes into Mesa competing for the 5th spot.
  5. Lugo was healthy all year, I think he tried too hard to justify that contract, playing in Boston with 8 good hitters around him prob. put too much pressure on him. Plus, he had some bad luck there as well. He played better in the second half, but not as good as he did while in TB. He's due 27mil over the next 3 years with a vesting option in '11.
  6. Lugo will rebound nicely next year, the Cubs would improve more by adding him than adding Roberts.
  7. He was originally brought here to be the starting 2B, which is one of the main reasons the Cubs were able to sign Derosa was that he would be the starter at 2B.
  8. Agreed, but 100 years without a WS as well as 5 post-season appear. since '45 doesn't envoke a model of success. No, but Hendry has been the GM of a team that has made it to the post season twice in the past 5 years. Not to mention that even if he didn't make another move this offseason, the Cubs would be favorites to return to the post season again in '08. I'm actually encouraged by the moves he has made this offseason. Making it to the post-season and having the talent to win a WS are two diff. things, especiallt with how the talent distribution is set-up. The Cubs have not been successful over the last 5 years, though.
  9. One every 4 to 5 years is pretty bad, only a handful teams (mostly expansion have had less success over that time). AZ-more successful ATL-obvious Balt-worse Bost-obvious White Sox-more successful Reds-more successful Indians-more successful Rockies-expansion but have advanced to the WS (2 PS appear) Detroit-one WS appearence, one div title. Houston-better Marlins-better KC-worse Angels-better Dodgers-better Brewers-worse Twins-better Yankees-no comment Mets-better Oakland-better Phillies-better Pirates-worse (despite the early 90s) Padres-better Giants-better Mariners-better Cardinals-better Rays-worse Rangers-better despite one less playoff appear. Toronto-better Wash/Montreal-worse By my figures, only 6 of the 29 teams have been worse than the Cubs before factoring expansion and market size. not pretty.
  10. Agreed, but 100 years without a WS as well as 5 post-season appear. since '45 doesn't envoke a model of success.
  11. Agreed, I was just saying among the avail. 5th starter that he is the best of the bunch (which isn't saying much).
  12. That's him. He has improved his K ratio over the last 3 years, last year as a starter it was 6K per 9IP. He did well as a reliever last year and was just horribly unlucky as a starter, 73 singles in 236 ABs is extremely high. Before that he was an effective btm of the rotation and will likely return to that. Deceptive lefty with a FB, change-up, cutter, and curve. Doesn't throw hard, throw strikes. Typical btm of the rotation type of guy.
  13. Hendrickson formerly of LA would be a better option than Lieber.
  14. Same here, I've been within walking distance of free college baseball for 4 years, I've got to finally take advantage in my last year. How could you not wander over there for a night game? The city skyline at a night game is the best I've seen for any park (amatuer, major, minor).
  15. He'd be a good 4th OF'er and a nice insurance policy if Pie doesn't progress offensively. I'd still like to see Pie be given a chance to make or break it, but if he is included in trade, I'd have no problem with them looking at Cabrera. He's still more of a 4th OF'er than a starter, IMO.
  16. Sounds like an internet wager to me.... Based on EqA, I will wager that Bruce will end up higher than Towles.
  17. I wouldn't go that far. Daisuke was supposed to be a shoe in for 2007. Bruce will put up better numbers than Fukudome.
  18. Ronny's ceiling is that of a lower end ML regular starter and Theriot is a marginal/utility player, but Cedeno has further to go and short amount of time to get there.
  19. I would in my front pocket.
  20. Weigh my options as I would any candidate. Right now, I have her as my 2nd choice behind Obama. Her stances are more than likely similar to mine compared to any conservative candidate, espec. Huckabee.
  21. Theriot has better instincts and hands, but b/c he has a 2B arm at SS, he does play a couple steps in compared to a stronger armed SS which limits his range. Neither of them are great offensively or defensively, Cedeno has a slightly higher ceiling and a lower floor if he struggles. I'm hoping Cedeno takes that next step, but hope doesn't translate much when a kid has been in a system for 9 years.
  22. He has the tools to become a good defensive SS, just has never been able to take that step. Fwiw, he had a .959 fielding % in .06. League fielding % was .975.
  23. I would do Roberts/Fukudome. While I want Derosa to get a shot at SS, I would put the odds of him being able to stay there defensively at minimal at best.
  24. I don't understand the thinking behind not letting him hit #3 because he's new but letting him hit 2 or 4. I wouldn't put him 4th either, I doubt he has the ability to drive in runs (power) to hit 3rd or 4th ahead of Ramirez and Lee. Would you hit Murton 3rd? I don't expect much of an offensive difference between what Murton would bring with 600ABs and Fukudome.
