  1. That's beautiful. The blue circling the red. WOW. Ditto. YUM.
  2. Me three. For a quarter of a second I thought of Jim Bullinger: "But I thought he retired a while back? Wait - Boehringer?" *clicks on link* "He was a CUB? Okay, whatever."
  3. There were plenty of people last year saying that Maddux's option vesting was way down on the list of Cubs problems. They were probably a little quieter last year, just like the critics are quieter this year. *waving* I would have been one of those. Especially since Maddux did a fairly good job the first part of last season as well. Yes, he did give up some HRs, but he did get the job done while Wood and Prior spent time on the DL (kind of like now). Like I've said on at least one other occasion, yes, $9 mil is a lot of money for an aging pitcher who isn't as great as he once was, but he's the ONLY person on the staff who eats up innings and more often than not keeps the team in the ballgame. If anyone "saved" the Cubs last year, it was Maddux (and Z) - keeping the team in the race - but only long enough to get Wood in the bullpen. As for the HOF speculation, there is no way Maddux goes in with a non-Braves cap unless he gets three more Cy's and two or more WS wins with one other team before his playing career is done. EDIT: when I first saw this thread, there were 31 replies. :D
  4. That Maggs contract makes the D.Lee contract look like a steal. [Captain Obviousman] One big negotiating factor with Maggs: Boras. [/Captain Obviousman] :-)
  5. Dear Cubs: Please bring your A game tomorrow. Even "bottom feeders" will beat you if you insist on dialing it in. Your friend, Kat
  6. if vance is really 5' 8", Barrett is more like 6'6" 6'7" unless Barrett is wearin heels in that pic Nah - Jim Edmonds stole his last pair.
  7. Replicas are not necessarily diamond- or other gem-studded. Here's an example of a D'Backs replica: I'm too lazy to isolate the ring picture - it's the second pic down.
  8. I don't know. But I do remember getting a chuckle the day I heard about Vince Coleman being run over by the tarp roller at Busch. Speediest guy on the team can't outrun the tarp machine on a slow setting? Somehow that struck me as ironic. In my defense, I was maybe ten at the time. I can remember moments when I've hated the Cardinals, though. One of the biggest ones was when Billy Mueller tripped over that tarp to catch a foul ball in '02. (God, was that an awful year as a whole!) Not only did he not catch the ball, but he was out for a while, it helped kill the Cubs momentum for the season, and he was never quite the same as a Cub after that. Thanks to Littlefield, however, the Cubs found a replacement Best 3B since Ron Santo. :-)
  9. :no jinx, no jinx, no jinx: If money weren't an object, would you buy a replica Cub WS ring if they won it all during your lifetime? I thought about putting a "depends on the price" option, but I don't want to do a marketer's job for him. If the Cubs were to get close, the sales and marketing forces (MLB and otherwise) will be trolling to figure out a good price to sell the ring to the fans.
  10. A Cubs-Cards NLCS would be the stuff of legend. Especially if the Cubs won. :D
  11. Fixed. :D
  12. That's all. Thank you. Oh, and Jacque Jones is out of my doghouse. I'll be altering the bandWGN sign presently.
  13. It's hard, but I think I can get used to that idea. :D The starters (waves to Z and Maddux) need to be effective - i.e., fewer pitches and way more innings - or the book will be out on the pen before the ASG.
  14. If what you say is true, then Baylor was nothing like Weaver. Like him with the home runs, not like him with the sacs. Can you please tell me how many games you've watched that Weaver managed? What are your sources of Weaver's managing style? I'm just curious to how much you really know about Weaver. On that note, I highly recommend reading "Weaver on Strategy" Is there a chapter on "How to burn out your pitching staff with a three-man rotation"? :-)
  15. ESPN sure did get the B show for tomorrow night. Saturday's, or even Friday's, pitching matchup compared to Sunday - man oh man.
  16. I think it's some sort of Polish sausage topped with sauerkraut and Limberger cheese.
  17. Perhaps Dusty's jonesing (hmm, questionable word choice there) for an extension? Make him manage for it, Jim - please!
  18. Fixed. :D What goes around comes around, though... I'd be packing my own hot water heater for the games at StL.
  19. When the Cubs win, especially when they win smart like today, I really feel good. But when they lose, particularly when they stink it up, I get bummed - I hate the Cubs, I hate baseball, and I wonder why I spend so much time and energy on baseball. Why should I give a care about a game that funds millionaires and billionaires, when I have a thousandaire salary (and sometimes less than that in the bank)? I'm smart; I have an advanced degree; I take voice lessons for FUN - why do I get so riled up about the Cubs? But then the Cubs will win and I am gleeful and giddy, and an unapologetic fan again. Do any of you have coping mechanisms that work well for you?
  20. Of all the games to miss!!!! I had a feeling Maddux would be in vintage form. Good work, Professor! Now let's hope Z can whittle down that ERA by a lot tomorrow. :D
  21. You should be shot for putting Edmonds on any list except people we'd like to see mauled by a giant gerbil. I thought Edmonds liked gerbils? Okay, gotta go. Have a great weekend everybody and please win Cubs!
  22. Another stinky AB - 3 pitches, 3 swinging Ks with 2 whiffs. When do we start a Pagan BandWGN? I'll drive! :-)
  23. Another stinky AB - 3 pitches, 3 swinging Ks with 2 whiffs.
  24. ONE day, Dusty. ONE day and he would have been a ROY candidate. You suck.
