  1. Lefty who "saved" us in the past?
  2. Well, crap. I was one batter off on that call. I HATE fireworks.
  3. A lefty who can't hold a runner should be really ticked at himself.
  4. Book will be out soon - run all you can on Cubs' pitching.
  5. Good job to get Griffey, Rusch. Let's get Aurilia this time, k?
  6. Thanks, Pat, mention Mitre's outing to rub things in. :(
  7. Anyone think Griffey will jack one out at this AB?
  8. I see the Cubs starting pitching continues to struggle. Rusch doesn't have much today, does he?
  9. Kerry's homer was the last time I believed the Cubs had a chance to get to the World Series. But I knew it was over before Wood flipped his glove into the stands, so that I didn't see. Who got it anyway? It sure would be nice to see him come back. I really thought that he had finally grown into the leader and the pitcher he could be at the major league level. EDIT: May you roast in the innermost level of Hell, Alex S. Gonzalez.
  10. That sounds like the inverse of what we call "lightning in a bottle" over here - "let's overpay for FA past their prime - it will get us over the top!"
  11. If I remember correctly, I suggested that I sure would like your young 3B (Aramis), and you said NO WAY. I was as surprised as you were when Hendry got him. (But I bet you weren't as happy as I was! :-) ) The troika of Buccos was exactly what the 2003 offense needed. I don't think I have ever seen a Cub team before 2004 with solid corner IF. (I really don't think Cey counted - we got him after his prime as a Dodger.)
  12. 8-4 on Napoli HR. Kronka making HoHoKam look like O'Hare Southwest. And as I type this, the inning mercifully ends without further damage.
  13. Yeah, but it lessens the blow, especially regarding those on this board who moaned that the Cubs should have signed him.
  14. Note to JH: weren't you interested in guys who could catch the ball? Sounded like a real hatchet job by our 3 yr dealer.
  15. Isn't Lee 0-7 or something? I hope he finds his stroke again before June.
  16. Is there a corresponding WGN broadcast? Only the Angels station shows up on Gameday Audio. Slappy thrown out going first to third on a Hairston single. :-( I do like that the guys are finding the holes, though. I hope that continues once the regular season begins.
  17. Can you believe this is the first ST game I've tuned into this season? And it may be the only one - not too much time this week. WTG Slappy! Hit up the middle.
  18. hmmm. hopefully the last sentence will work out for another team in the national league central that looks like that. The Pirates? Now I know how I must have appeared to Pirates fans in the early 90s. :P
  19. Great news. Guess that means I need to order a bunch of noisemaker blowouts. (At least, that's what one site called them - what name do you use for those party items where you blow in one end and the paper attached to it unrolls?) Philly Phynatic Tongue? Hehe. No - these thingies.

  21. I hope Guzman stays healthy.

    Ryno

Yup. Would that he were still in MLB form - there wouldn't be any controversy about the Cubs 2B position.
  23. That's because he could go to the Dominican Republic for his supply. They don't have smoking guns in the DR (except for Manny Alexander). Sammy has proven that he is not above cheating, e.g. corking his bat. Given that, I am fairly confident that he would have no problem taking steroids. But that just answers part of the questions. Supply is one thing, but where would he have injected it? Sosa wouldn't have taken steriods exclusively in the DR in the offseason, would he? I don't think the drugs work like that. I believe that Sammy did take steroids, but I'm just trying to figure out how he's never been ratted out.
  24. I agree. I'm a big fan of Grace as a baseball player, but the more he talks, the less I like him as a person. It seems hypocritical to me that while Grace says "to each his own" about roid use, he wouldn't vote for Sammy as HOF. You can't ignore the numbers he's put up. On the other hand, how many times did Grace keep a game going in the 9th, only to see Sammy whiff and strand everybody? From Grace's dog's eye view in the 90s, I guess Sammy wouldn't look like much of a HOF candidate.
  25. Don't go there, Cali. They both did ample jawing, and the refs spoke to them both about their uber-physicality. What a disgusting three minutes. HORRIBLE ball handling by the Bulldogs. They should have taken every second off the clock they could for every possession at the end, but no. :(
