    I saw an M's game in Seattle a couple of years ago, where I had a good seat in the RF bleachers, right next to the bullpen. Behind me was a row of Japanese young ladies, dressed in kimonos, flip flops, and sunglasses - they cheered for Ichiro at every AB, every time he ran to his position, and every time he made a fielding play. I think Matt Murton needs a similar cheering section in the LF bleachers. I'm thinking five, maybe six young ladies, dressed in matching T-shirt and skirt, in different colors, like M&Ms. What to call them, though? While it would be kind of a "posse", I scrapped that idea immediately - the joke writes itself. :oops: I cannot be a credit to my sex with this M&M girl concept, much less the sexist jokes stemming from it!

    Maybe b/c LaRussa is also a lawyer? Perhaps he's (1) especially gifted at arguing, or (2) knows where the bodies are buried w/the umps, as the result of good research. Just spitballing here... ;-)

    Pot meet TLR. No kidding, that's just what I was thinking. TLR is one of the biggest crybabies in the league. I hope he and Boras go bankrupt someday.

    I think he can do it, but he's going to need SOME run support. But the 20-year plus Cub fan in me feels that a good performance will be counterbalanced by NO RUNS. Then Crusty will trot out Williamson (or someone else not named Howry, Eyre - is he still out?, or Dempster) after Greg is done for the day, and the Cards will get the sweep in their back yard this time. Ask, and ye shall receive. 0.99 ERA for Madux on the year, outstanding! Mmmm, me likey BBQ crow -- or, is that CARDINAL? :D Keep dealing, Maddog! And thanks for the HRs from the I hope erstwhile slumping Aramis and JJ!

    Gee such creative nick names you have. I actually kind of like it. But then, after two years of this schtick, I'm kind of crabby. With Lee out and the team looking a TAD flat-footed, I'm a damn sight CRANKIER than Wood's arm.

    I'm a little perturbed with our seemingly annual injury/recovery watch with Wood and Prior, who I am now dubbing Yosarian and Dunbar (any of you who have read "Catch 22" will get the reference). We have one other bona fide starter on the payroll - how is he doing?

    Okay, I'll be the one to say it first: with all the nail-biting about Lee, Acosta's DEATH puts things into perspective. The pitching staff back then was fun to watch. But I disagree with you on two points: (1) Baylor was IMO more to blame - he got Acosta out of there after 2001 as a desperate move to save his own hide, and (2) I remember Flash flushing away more games than saving.
