  1. Much of how you feel about this team obviously has to do with Gordon. Some people love him and think he meant everything to the team. Others think he is one dimensional and doesn't make those around him better. Consider me in the latter category. He was very mediocre for much of the season, but definitely contributed more in the playoffs. I still 100% agree with the decision to let him go, and think the team will be better off without him in the long run, and at least as good this year without him. A healthy Hinrich and Deng makes up for Gordon and then then some. I can't see the Pistons being too happy with his contract in a few years.
  2. Everybody else has sucked on Favre tonight, so Im sure GB just didnt want to feel left out.
  3. Generous spot there.
  4. His only weakness is his feet. The elite QBs, ie Manning and Brady, can avoid sacks by getting rid of the ball and moving within the pocket. He gets sacked too much. His arm is certainly there, though.
  5. I'm waiting for the media to start giving Brett Favre credit for the Minnesota defense. Can't wait until Favre starts flinging picks into triple coverage against a good defense. Yes, he used to be great. But now he's overrated. Vikings have a good O line and the best RB in football. Rex Grossman might be good in that offense.
  6. Johnny Knox Bandwgn! What a badass. 4.3 speed. Get the man the ball, he's already on my fantasy team.
  7. APBRmetrics. Very interesting. So he has all these fancy statistics to tell you this: Hollinger predictions Last year 1. Cavaliers 63-19 1. Cavaliers 66-16 2. Magic 62-20 2. Celtics 62-20 3. Celtics 54-28 3. Magic 59-23 4. Hawks 44-38 4. Hawks 47-35 5. 76ers 42-40 5. Heat 43-39 6. Wizards 41-41 6. 76ers 41-41 7. Heat 40-42 7. Bulls 41-41 8. Pistons 39-43 8. Pistons 39-43 9. Bulls 38-44 9. Pacers 36-46 He's really going out on a limb. The only prediction that's really different here is the Wizards. He must love Gilbert Arenas. He's no different than any number of "experts" who essentially predict the same standings as the year before. Come on. Anyone can make those picks. As a Bulls fan, I have no illusions that they are going to overtake the Cavs, Magic or Celtics. But I don't think they are a worse team than last year. They add a healthy Deng and Hinrich. They have a more experienced and hopefully improved Rose, Noah and Thomas. They lose Gordon.
  8. Who is this Hollinger dude? He really goes out on a limb with those predictions, essentially predicting nearly the exact same standings as last year, except he somehow has Gilbert Arenas making a huge difference and carrying the Wizards into the playoffs. He seems like another one of an endless number of hacks who essentially make the same predictions as what happened the year before, accounting for some personnel changes. And of course this never ever happens. He must think, oh my, the Bulls lost their leading scorer. Therefore, they will drop a few spots in the standings. Hack.
  9. "Surging" They'd better surge to a 20 game winning streak if they want to make it.
  10. Kick em when they're down. I kind of feel sorry for them right now.
  11. As a bear fan, I'm not used to QB's throwing lasers on the run. I can get used to it.
  12. Only 1 page in the game thread. Who would've thunk it just a few weeks ago. A few observations: 1. The Cubs have decided to just try and hit home runs for the rest of the year 2. The umps have been calling a big zone on the Cubs. I think it is all just to piss off Milton Bradley. We will lose 3-1 or 2-1 or something like that.
  13. We're stuck with him. Giving him away and eating his contract isn't going to solve anything. Just hope he goes back to hitting .270 with 30 home runs and keep him out of leadoff.
  14. i'm pretty sure most teams would have a mediocre record if you took away their 2 hottest stretches. And most teams might be decent if you took away their 2 coldest. Or the last 2 weeks, in the Cubs case. I'm just making a point that mediocrity has been the norm for this team. The offense has not performed all year. The Cubs simply are not good this year. Period.
  15. Yes, there is no such thing as clutch. But I now know that anti-clutch exists.
  16. Really. If Torre actually thinks the Cubs are a threat to score, he's an idiot.
  17. Well, just gotta tip your cap to the Cy Young caliber pitching the Cubs seem to be running into every single game.
  18. I have about as much confidence in the Cubs winning today as I have in the last place Padres beating Chris Carpenter.
  19. I'm fine with Piniella staying. He's not the guy who couldn't get a hit with men on base, or kept giving up home runs with the game on the line. I'm fine if he can just keep his mouth shut about personnel decisions and let the new GM- not named Hendry- get some real players.
  20. You're an optimist. You can also say take away the 10-3 start to May and the 9-2 start post ASB, and this team has a .438 winning percentage. Mediocre play has been the norm for this team this year, not the exception.
  21. Oh great. We just sucked so much this year because we were a team built around power. Is he talking about the same team? What power?
